Why FLASH PLAYER??? Where is the old offline version?
Flash Player when enabled in your browser is a bit like Google on steroids in the way it can steal your personal information.
Read what you agree to when you download it!!!! You agree they will direct you and your private information to other websites without your knowledge and they are not responsible for malicious activity as a result. It is a pain to enable and disable Flash Player to use Scratch. HTML5 might make more sense if MIT has to go this route.
The great thing about the old version was not having to be on line to use it. It was fast.
How can we get it?

Why FLASH PLAYER??? Where is the old offline version?
Found the old version. It is here: http://scratch.mit.edu/scratch_1.4/
What I have not found out is why Scratch users are being subjected to Flash Player and only being able to use an online version. Is Scratch becoming completely commercial? Is that the reason? Shame it could not be like Wikipedia. I am sure if MIT can keep Scratch non-commercial people will make donations to keep it that way.

Why FLASH PLAYER??? Where is the old offline version?
The offline version comes out soon. And a HTML5 version is being worked on.Yep, this pretty much sums it up.
The offline version is in alpha test at the moment and getting close to release. Flash is certainly not perfect - but it best met our technical needs at the time that we had to choose a platform. Many people already have it installed on their computers for running other applications besides Scratch. We have no intention of becoming commercial - Scratch is free and will remain so.
We do hope to put forth an HTML5 based version, once that standard meets our technical requirements. I hope this answers your concerns.

Why FLASH PLAYER??? Where is the old offline version?
On the old site the default player was the Java one. It ran differently from downloaded projects because that was Squeak. The Java player isn't nearly as good as the Flash, which came out later. On the old site there were 3 players: Squeak in downloaded games, Java, and Flash player. The Flash Player was implemented because the ST was testing projects out for 2.0.I thought there was a java version too?The offline version comes out soon. Why FLASH PLAYER??? Where is the old offline version?
HTML 5 is finally about ready for Scratch - although some issues remain (browser support / sound API / support for concurrent sound playback / etc). We hope to release our HTML 5 project player code soon, to get help from the open source community.

But by “release out HTML 5 project player code soon”, does that mean there will be an option on the project page to switch to the HTML 5 player, or just show the code, I'm a bit confused by that statement.

Scratch is not commercial, never was commercial, and hopefully never will be commercial. And see what Lightnin said.

Probably, the HTML 5 version will never work as well as Flash, because Flash is far more advanced. But I think the ST will push for the HTML 5 version, like Microsoft pushed for Metro Windows 8HTML 5 is finally about ready for Scratch - although some issues remain (browser support / sound API / support for concurrent sound playback / etc). We hope to release our HTML 5 project player code soon, to get help from the open source community. Will there still be a Flash-based editor?

Flash Player when enabled in your browser is a bit like Google on steroids in the way it can steal your personal information.I'm sorry, but where did you get this infomation? Flash Player is safe, and always will be if you get it from the original source, which is here.

HTML5 is the future of computing, dude! Adobe is dropping Flash support for mobile, Linux, and more platforms to come, because they agree that HTML5 is the next big thing.Probably, the HTML 5 version will never work as well as Flash, because Flash is far more advanced.
