Discuss Ubuntu here!
If you don't know what what is, Ubuntu is basically a Linux distro developed by Canonical. It is the most used one in the world, and it is based off of Debian. Ubuntu versions release every 6 months and include a codename in which the title always has 2 words. The first is an adjective and the second is animal. For example, the latest release is called Resolute Racoon.

The latest LTS Release, Resolute Racoon, 26.04.

Half of my computers run Ubuntu lol
The other half are just gaming PCs that need Windows
Tried Lubuntu for a few weeks a long time back, and it made me rage so badly I switched back to Ubuntu

My old laptop runs 24.04
Trying to install it took 9 months of constant failure and rage and it was literally the worst
I want to install Ubuntu on my brand new gaming laptop but I really really REALLY do not want to go through another 9 months of pain trying to install it again
Also does the OP even use or have ever used Ubuntu because it would be ironic if they didn’t

My old laptop runs 24.04Personally I would highly discourage using any form of Linux on your main / gaming computer. Linux isn't exactly well known for gaming at all. Most things on steam don't support it (though you can bypass that). Unless you need that speed from the gaming laptop, it's likely best to just use another computer if you have one (like a raspberry pi). All just my opinion ofc

The thing is though that with Wine and Proton you can use some Windows only Steam games. You're lucky it's not macOS that is being used instead. In that case it's even worse for Steam. My old laptop runs 24.04Personally I would highly discourage using any form of Linux on your main / gaming computer. I've been considering upgrading from Kubuntu 24.xx LTS to the 26.04 LTS. Should I just wait for the stable 26.1 release, or is it fine to upgrade to?

Ubuntu now has a higher ram requirement than Windows 11To be fair, they do have lightweight versions and most computers released within the last several years exceed the system requirements.
Also, keep in mind that Ubuntu itself isn't actually using anywhere near that amount of RAM to run; they just recommend higher amounts of RAM because there are a lot of apps these days that are unnecessarily large and poorly optimized. Unlike Windows, which actually can take a lot of RAM to just run the desktop, and likes to increase its RAM usage with the amount available (I'm currently on a Windows laptop with 16GB of RAM; Firefox is taking up about 1GB to run in total while I have many tabs open, and Windows accounts for the rest of my current total usage of 7.7GB).

I run Kubuntu and have 32gb of RAM, but right now with chrome and spotify open I'm only using 4gb vs windows which would probally be using around 6.
