i apologize if i should've posted this somewhere else or if it's a dupe (although i know you guys will probably say dupe + go to BaG (i was actually just there but decided to post in QaS instead since it's a question rather than a bug report) due to other topics about the bug itself but i'm not reporting the bug, i'm asking a specific question about the bug that i've been really curious about and haven't seen anyone else address), i am still very new to the forums so please go easy on me
(please note before reading that i don't know html or basically any coding stuff, i just make guesses based on my own uneducated logic)
so i wanted to discuss the comment encoding bug a bit (again, not reporting it since i think we're all already aware):
why exactly does it lead to DevNull? what is DevNull? i mean it's pretty obvious that they're definitely not a real scratcher. to me, they're very reminiscent of namesnipe accounts like this
the only thing i've seen on the actual subject of DevNull is something someone briefly mentioned on a topic about the bug itself, saying that “DevNull” is something used in html. reading this, i figured that makes quite a bit of sense: maybe the html code had a bug that, rather than doing whatever html does, caused it to go to an account called “DevNull” that just happened to exist (but was obviously never used)
however the very next reply i read was someone telling them that they are incorrect and “DevNull” does not exist in html so it can't be that exactly, but could it still be something similar?
just curious and wanted to know everyone's thoughts and/or theories on this
let me know if i've done anything wrong by posting this, i will change or remove it if needed, and if i did it was absolutely unintentional
(by the way, not sure if this is vpn-related anymore because i and many others have had it happen with no vpn whatsoever. for me it fixes on its own overnight)

There was some glitch that affected other users where their comment turned into a random super long string by @DevNull

I've heard of it happening to people that weren't on VPNs

/dev/null is basically a “black hole” for data on linux; anything you write to it will disappear. i can only imagine this is happening because of code/commands leaking from Scratch one way or another. i dont know what bug op is talking about though
