Require ID verification for commenting, posting, and sharing projects
In order to reduce bullying, harassment, and hate that happens daily on Scratch, we need to implement ID verification for publishing on Scratch. This means that any type of user generated content will be posted by a someone who is verified by ID (Passport, DL, etc).
If the user indicated that they are an adult during sign up, they will have to submit a picture of their own ID.
If the user indicated that they are a child during sign up, their parent will have to submit the ID picture for them.
With everyone who posts being ID verified, they will know that whatever they post can be traced back to them, which will lead to users thinking twice before posting a hateful comment.
Also, this comes with the added benefit of stopping people who circumvent bans, which increases platform safety and keeps banned people out of Scratch.
The actual ID will be sent to Persona, which is a ID verification solution trusted by Square, LinkedIn, OpenAI, Etsy, Lyft, and Reddit.
An additional unintended effect is that the feature will receive low pushback from the community as users who oppose ID verification cannot post on Scratch, therefore making this a safe and non-controversial addition to Scratch.

Do you feel that talking to people in the real world, where people know who you are and what you say can be traced back to you is an invasion of privacy? No. So why is it one online?

8.2 A 13+ version of the Scratch website or age-restricted contentAnd, no, the Scratch Team will not require kids to use IDs.
Scratch is designed for ages 8 to 16, but any content shared on the website must be appropriate for all ages. Dividing the community by making a separate, age-restricted website would not be helpful. Potential restrictions from entering the website (such as a warning, or requiring a parent to answer math equations) would not necessarily stop an underage child from entering the 13+ website.
This extends to age-restricting anything on Scratch, such as viewing specific projects or accessing specific Scratch features. As a general rule, Scratch is for all ages, and content shared on the Scratch website should be appropriate for all ages.

Yes, but only the birthday, gender, and name portions will be used to match with account registration records.

Please re-read my suggestion. It clearly says parents will verify for them if they are underage

Absolutely no support, I don't want to have to share my ID just to use Scratch. Because if so, I'm gonna leave Scratch. (No offense, I just take my privacy very seriously)
