I read it.
  • You have to be 18+ to sign up without parental consent
  • People might technically not need credit to use your stuff anymore
  • Scratch can train AI on any of your stuff posted after its release
  • Scratch can charge money for anything
  • All crawlers are banned
  • Uploading projects made in mods might be technically allowed now
  • Using copyrighted background music is banned, contradicting the previous policy on music projects, which tolerated copyrighted background music

And if you haven't read the terms of service, I'm talking about section 8.9: "in whole or in part, for the purpose of providing, developing, improving, and extending the Service and for commercial purposes, which may include (but not be limited to) licensing, developing, and improving AI models and allowing third parties to do so for free or for a fee.". This means that the projects that you are making can be given to third parties for free or they'll have to pay for it. And you don't get any money back for it. Also I have a feeling that in scratch 4.0 they're gonna add AI to the website, which is annoying because what's the point in making scratch projects if I can just have an AI do it instead.

They are definitely adding AI, as has been confirmed multiple times, although we don't know exactly what kinds of AI and their extent
The Terms also say
By Posting User Content to or via the Service, … you hereby grant … us a … license … to … use and exploit the User Content … to otherwise improve our products and services and create new products and services, including through the training of AI models

Just so you know, they are not training AI on projects, so your projects are safe.

I read it. It was too suspicious for Scratch to just completely change their Terms of Use after a decade. The most suspicious part was the change to “Terms of Service”, being a really corporate-sounding change. It was just foreshadowing the other atrocious things in that egregious document that made me genuinely cry.

But they CAN, and they gave themselves the power to do so, so that claim is not to be trusted.

Especially since ‘are’ and ‘immediate’ aren't exactly promises
