Looking for COMIC ARTISTS to Turn Storyboards into Full Comic [Pencillers, Lineartists, Colorists & Letterers Needed]

Hellopeople5000's Comic Collaboration

Greetings, everybody!

I'm TeenySpoon, the storyboard artist for Hellopeople5000's KPDH fancomic, which you can find in the Collaborations forum: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/871370
As the artist on this team, I was tasked with finding other artists to help us complete the project.

CurrentTeam List

  • Hellopeople5000
  • TeenySpoon (storyboarder)
  • iSCRATCH456 (voice actor)
  • GarnetStarParakeet (letterer)

Quick Overview
It is an eight-episode series following an alternate timeline of events (diverging from the movie's plot) where Rumi collaborates with her brother (Hellopeople5000's OC) to get the information they need to seal the Honmoon.
It's fun, lighthearted, and campy, so if you're interested in a relatively short comic collab and a chance to improve your skills, you should apply for the team!

How to Join
We're looking to split the work between a team of artists to make the workload easier for everyone, so don't feel like you need to be great at every aspect in order to join.
The main skill you need is the ability to interpret my storyboards (but each job also has its own set of specifications.
The storyboards can be found here.
Simply pick any 1-2 pages (not panels) and show me how you would draw it based on both my storyboards and Hellopeople5000's script.
Alternatively, send in a prior project that you think exemplifies the skills needed for the job(s) you are applying for.

If you are interested, make sure to hit the “Follow Discussion” button to get notifications.

Read on for each specific job!

Who We're Looking For
Here's a quick summary of each artist's job.
  • Storyboard
The storyboard artist takes the script and figures out basic paneling arrangements, the character poses and expressions, and the layout of the text. The art itself can be very rough, but it must be clear to the artists what is going on so they can use it as a reference.
For this project, that's me! I'd prefer if people applied for the other jobs, but if you're okay with doing two jobs, I'd love to split the work as well.
  • Penciller
The penciller does the bulk of the drawing and is probably what you think of when you hear “comic artist.” They use the storyboards as a guide to draw the actual comic images. For this comic, which is primarily character-heavy, we need someone who is good at drawing people (clothing, facial expressions, decent anatomy and perspective for certain poses) and moderately good at backgrounds.
We are already hiring multiple artists, so if you have a certain proficiency (e.g. only people or only backgrounds), we can divide up the panels between each person so that you are working on what you feel you're best at.
  • Lineartist
The lineartist takes the penciller's sketches and cleans them up with the final linework. This can be a separate person from the penciller, but they can be the same person as well. This person needs the ability to interpret sketches (which may be messy) and ink over them into readable lines.
  • Colorist
As the name implies, the colorist takes the lineart and adds base colors, shadows, and rendering. This job requires at least a basic understanding of light and shadow, how color influences mood, and contrast.
  • Letterer
The letterer does minimal drawing, instead taking the dialogue from the script and arranging them into clear, flowing thought balloons, captions, and speech bubbles. This also involves creating the SFX. The layout should mostly follow what was outlined in the storyboards.

TLDR
We really need more artists, as I don't have the time to be the main artist myself, so please consider joining!

Great, thank you so much! Could you show an example of your existing art OR demonstrate how you would do one of the pages? This is just so we can get an idea of what you can do before assigning any work.

Thank you for responding!

I see you mostly do vector art, which is really cool, but unfortunately we are looking for a bitmap/illlustrative style artist. However, I'd love some help with the storyboarding, do you think you could create layouts for the panels/pages similar to what I've already posted?

If you decide to do so, just go to the main Collaborations forum topic and get the script from there. Dialogue bubbles are numbered based on the script, and you can post the numbers you used there also (see my own posts for an example).

Feel free to refuse if this isn't your thing, though!

Heya bro, Hellopeople5000 here,

Don't get me wrong, I like your art. Sometimes, it's the most simple art that's the most effective. But unfortunately, that isn't really the style of art we're aiming for. We're more looking for comic style (Demon Slayer, Marvel Comic etc.), but you're style could be used for storyboard sketching, if you want to get involved

Hello!! Thanks so much for responding.

Could you head on over to the main forum topic and ask Hellopeople5000? They will either ask you to do storyboards for certain episodes or have you turn the storyboards into the actual comic, but if you get the second job, it will take a little time because they need to finalize the main character design.

Also, it would be really appreciated if you could spread the word a little and help find other artists (but in a respectful, non-spammy way).

Heya mate, thanks for getting involved!
Do you think you could start with some basic colours of the storyboards that @TeenySpoon has made? Leave the main character though, I've still got to make a basic sketch yet, so we don't have an idea of what he'll look like right now

Bump + update: I drew a banner to set the general style for the comic.
Please, any interested artists?

Updates for any potential topic stalkers/interested artists:

The first phase of episode 3 (storyboarding) has begun: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/9073517/

Our plan is to storyboard all 8 episodes while we wait for artists to apply for the main position(s). Who wants to turn these glorious storyboards/rough layouts into finalized (or at least penciled) comic pieces?

Woohoo! An applicant!
You're going to need confirmation from Hellopeople5000 (the owner of the collab) to join, but thank you so much for the interest! If they don't see this you can also post in the main forum topic (linked in OP).
