Luckode - The Modern Scratch 1.4 Modification
NOTICE: On July 2nd, 2026, development on Luckode Juno and LuckodeX was cancelled.
What is Luckode?
Luckode is a Scratch 1.4 modification developed since March 8th, 2024. The most recent version of Luckode, Luckode Equinox (or version 12.0) introduces over 350 new blocks; 1,000 costumes, backdrops, and sounds; a Batch-file multitool; a sound editor; and more to Scratch 1.4. And the best part is? It's completely free, just unzip it and then run it.
So what makes Luckode “better” than Scratch 1.4?
The summary above answers that question but if you want a more in-depth look:
You can install/download Luckode here and either unzip it if you want to use it temporarily or install it as an application if you want to keep it on your computer for a longer period of time. Luckode is ONLY compatible with Windows, and to a lesser extent ReactOS and SqueakJS.
What's a ‘LuckodeX’?
You may have seen a few mentions of something called a ‘LuckodeX’ around these forums. If you don't know what it is, LuckodeX will be a complete rewrite of Luckode. It started development earlier this month on February 7th. It will be made available to download (as either a preview version or a complete version, depends on how complete it is) on March 8th, 2026 to side with Luckode's 2nd anniversary. LuckodeX is also, from what I can recall, the first Scratch 1.4 modification to introduce sound panning.

The summary above answers that question but if you want a more in-depth look:
- Mesh is available from the get-go. For those unfamiliar, Mesh is a feature in Scratch 1.4 and subsequently virtually all Scratch 1.4 modifications that allow other Scratch windows, Scratch modifications, and even other programs such as EToys to interact with each other through shared messages and variables.
- Luckode introduces backwards-compatibility with Scratch 0.x and 1.x projects, obviously. However, Luckode also supports ‘legacy’ projects (projects created in Luckode 1.0-8.0) and Scratch 2.0 support (to some extent, and by some I mean not a lot).
- There are five new categories, those being Internet, System, Files, Mathematics* and Strings*.
* previously ‘Operators’ but was split up into these two categories

snipNeat! 2 year developing time is crazy too… Surprised this hasn't gotten much traction yet…

Technically it's also spread across like 20 versions (that's why it's Luckode 12.0, not 1.0), I'll try to see if I can add the other versions of it to the GitHub repo as releases soonsnipNeat! 2 year developing time is crazy too… Surprised this hasn't gotten much traction yet…

Done. All releases from Luckode 1.0 to Luckode Equinox including Luckode 5.0 Indev, the Luckode 10.0 release candidate and Pi Day Patch, and the three Luckode Equinox release previews have all been added hereTechnically it's also spread across like 20 versions (that's why it's Luckode 12.0, not 1.0), I'll try to see if I can add the other versions of it to the GitHub repo as releases soonsnipNeat! 2 year developing time is crazy too… Surprised this hasn't gotten much traction yet…

also new feature in luckodex: the preferences menu
it allows you to change certain preferences in luckode to your liking and they save to the luckode ini file (Luckode.ini, NOT Luckode4LD.ini), it's obviously very wip in the preview build

- preferred name option in preference menu
- most blocks from the motions, motors, looks, sounds, variables, lists, internet, system, and strings categories have been added back from luckode, and in some cases these categories even have extra luckodex exclusive blocks
- new luckode mascot! her name is holly. she's a purple lamb-like character similar to nina, tom and heather.
- luckat (the green cat character) actually has expressions and poses similar to the other mascots (this was long overdue…)
- other visual updates
- legal info and licensing update

(#12)I'm assuming this means itch/github is blocked on your device (please tell me if im wrong), if so there's nothing I can do about that unfortunately and I don't really intend on spreading Luckode to other platforms
blocked

Luckode - The Modern Scratch 1.4 Modification
Development on Luckode has stalled as I have worked on other projects. I have looked into Wikipedia articles regarding software rot/bloat and I decided that some blocks should be condensed or outright removed from the block palette. The blocks that will be changed will have their old versions marked as “obsolete”.
The inclusion of such condensed blocks would mean I would have to sacrifice .lpr (Luckode 9.0-12.0 projects) and .luckode (Luckode 1.0-8.0 project) saving altogether. Would it be worth it? Probably.
I would have to consider rewriting how Scratch 1.4 detects arguments. I'll do this on a clean copy of the source code version of 1.4 (build 23-Sep-09) to make sure things don't go wrong. If it works I will “merge” it into LuckodeX Juno.

I'll try to see if I can implement this functionality.

Luckode - The Modern Scratch 1.4 Modification
Update: Using a copy of the Scratch 1.4 image hosted on the SqueakJS website, using the changes file from a prototype version of Dream (the DreamPC archive that was listed in the first few pages of the mod's original topic) as reference, I was able to implement Dream's argument interpreter into Scratch.Development on Luckode has stalled as I have worked on other projects. Luckode - The Modern Scratch 1.4 Modification
After development finishes on LuckodeX 12.1.1 (Equinox), development will go straight to LuckodeX 13.0.0 (Juno). At this time I'm estimating a release for around September/October at the latest, potentially later if school were to get in the way especially since September will be the time of my GSCE's and BTEC's and whatnot.
