I'm suddenly getting asked about the state I live in, and, because of this, I can't use Scratch outside of forums without saying my state.

I really don't want to say what state because that seems creepy and unneeded, I know it's not like I need to be super secretive or anything, but I still don't really want to say it, so, why is it asking, and how do I avoid this?

We don't know why people are asking for your state but it's best just to politely say no.

Looks like Scratch is asking for OP's state not people, whoops

It's because of COPPA's recent enforcement of parental consent laws on the site.

If you are really worried, I would highly recommend contacting your state legislator. When Scratch displays the state name, get them to change the name of the state. That way nobody really knows where you are, because the state listed on your profile will be different than the actual name.

By the way, dupes don't exist in QAS.

assuming it's just being asked to comply with any potential local laws.
do you really not trust ST with your state though? It's not public or anything

Local laws make scratch legally obliged to ask for your state.

Your state name is not displayed on your profile or anywhere else on the scratch website.

Well yes, but they already show your country, so you can't be too careful. I would recommend getting them to change the state name, just in case.

Did some research and apparently yes you can. I don't think Scratch would track your geolocation
