There have been quite a few java/bedrock flame wars in here.
Yes, a bunch of people here play java edition.
dunno why there'd be flame wars
I have bedrock edition on my switch and while i rather play java edition because i have a server with my friends, they feel pretty much identical
Basically, the main source of debate between java/bedrock is that when you mod java you get a bunch of free community stuff via an external mod launcher as opposed to bedrock where all the stuff comes from an official paid marketplace. If you don't play Java with mods (even stuff like optimization mods and the like), you're missing out on the full value of Java edition because you didn't use an external mod launcher as opposed to being encouraged to get mods on bedrock via a paid marketplace.
I just use optimisation mods tbh but does it really matter? Theyre both minecraft
They have different features, like PVP systems, bridging, cauldrons, pushing chests, etc.
The differences are trivial except for PVP but even then it doesnt matter just play what you want

As a person who plays with mods/modpacks, yes, it does in fact matter. Bedrock edition is more of a live-service game with a bunch of monetization you need to get through, with the benefits of it being a more accessible version to casuals and console/mobile players.

The monetization of bedrock gets really pushy sometimes though, and usually is the one that shows the signs of Microsoft's ownership of Minecraft, what with them temporarily replacing the settings button with the marketplace button.
Bedrock has more official mod support, but the reasons for having it is to push the marketplace, and it shows.

Java is the more community-based side of the game, with a whole lot more free community mods, the ability to go back in previous versions, and letting you use external launchers for Minecraft easier. They're even deobfuscating their code soon, to try to make modding future versions easier. If you get a good launcher like Modrinth or PrismMc, and you get some different mods/modpacks, you can change the entire game, as opposed to bedrock where you can only change your in-world experience for individual worlds. Having more control over the software you use can be an important thing for people, and Java edition is basically that.
It's not ok to hate someone for playing a different Minecraft version, but the two versions do have distinct differences that can be fairly significant, with them mainly lying in the code itself and how much control you want over your game or if you just want to be a casual player and not bother with that.

While it might not be too much of a difference for vanilla minecraft players, the difference between bedrock and Java is quite sizeable if you're a mod user/creator or server host.

Given that you don't seem to mess with mods too much, which version you use won't matter that much, but that doesn't mean that the differences don't affect other people

My only problem with Bedrock mods is that they're harder to get without paying money and it's really complicated to make/download them without having a computer or something
yeah no crep sherlock almost as if modding has been known to be mostly exclusively on pc for every game
and that's just a lie aswell it's easy to mod on mobile and it's harder to mod on consoles but probably easier to mod on there than other games
You didn't have to be sarcastic about it. Also it's harder to mod on mobile since you have to resort to third party apps or complicated programs sometimes, and there are plenty of Bedrock mods but I find myself having a hard time installing them. I once was able to download a pack by clicking on it or something. But when I tried downloading another one it didn’t work as easily, even though it was a simpler pack too that simply changed textures and sounds.
Im always sarcastic it's just built into me
You have to resort to third party websites to mod anything
For me it's easy I don't know what ancient magic your using

Things like Blockbench and stuff are pretty complicated on mobile for me, there's a bunch of random buttons and stuff.

why are we arguing
game that only sucks on console and servers are very scarce vs game that only sucks if you don’t have mind game changing mods that really don’t matter that much

Unfortunately, it's not worth getting a switch 2. I believe it might be worse than the wii u. When indie devs make games, they'll just make it for both switch 1 and 2 making the switch 2 just a performance upgrade. And if the devs DID make a game for only switch 2, it would just be stuff for mouse controls. If your wanting to play bedrock on switch 2 then you should know that it basically makes it run how it should and even a little bit better. It doesn't have any switch 2 specific updates to it so it won't have mouse controls or anything. I own one and play minecraft on it so I speak from experience.

(At the start I started ranting about nintendo, oops, for a little bit I thought I was in the nintendo forums)

Its because that version was made from the Java edition of the game, but now of course the console Minecraft is Bedrock edition. I agree… why didn't they just keep that?

In case Bedrock players want to know: Better on Bedrock is officially available for free on Curseforge and MCPEDL, and has been for basically as long as it's been on the marketplace, and the developers still keep it up to date with the latest updates added to the marketplace version.

This is literally one of the best add-ons you can get for bedrock, and it has been available for free the entire time. Yes, this is legitimate, I've downloaded it myself and it works perfectly fine.

(One of the best mods on the marketplace is one that's been released for free and people don't have to pay money for it. I feel like that says something about the marketplace…)

Considering that the marketplace version is 6$ and the devs are only gonna get about 2.40$ back, if you want to get it from a supporting-the-devs standpoint it would be better to support them on Kofi (which takes a MUCH lower cut than microsoft)

Given that it counts as a dynamic world, so you won't get achievements from it even if you pay for it, and there are better ways to support the devs, there is basically no reason for pc/laptop players to pay for it on the marketplace. If you're on a console, then you probably need to pay for it because of how hard it is to get mods on there, sorry :(

If you want to give it a try, I've already linked the two official places to get it at the start of the post.

If you don't know how to add an external add-on to bedrock, just unzip the .mcpack folder and open the .mcpack file inside, it will open Minecraft Bedrock with the add-on installed.

Yes, really, the mod was made by passionate mod creators who want more people to enjoy their mod, if you need more proof, they've also released Luminous Dreams for free on there, and that's also paid on the marketplace.

I can make screenshots if I really need to, but I wouldn't want it to clog up the forums

Take it from someone who spent a whole lot of money on the marketplace as a young kid, paying for stuff there usually isn't worth it. At a certain point I basically vowed not to buy anything there ever again and it's worked out pretty fine, there's a good bit of stuff on there that's free and there's a whole lot of community things outside of the marketplace that can be pretty fulfilling, even on bedrock. There are a couple things on there that can be worth it, but most of the time there's either another option to get it free or the thing just isn't worth it.

Basically, don't spend money on microtransactions kids
