pumpkin daily
11/6 daily ⧉ 257/250 words
There are plenty of reasons to like pumpkins, and for many, it’s a sign of fall. Pumpkins mean sweater weather and jumping in piles of leaves. They mean apple orchards with donuts and cider, and farms with corn mazes spanning forever.
And for those coffee addicts, it’s the new fall drops of Pumpkin Spice Lattes and Iced Pumpkin Cream Chais. The excitement to see Starbucks has dropped the new fall menu with cakes, muffins, and tarts filled with pumpkins galore.
Pumpkins, mean the holiday season is near. Halloween is around the corner with carved jack-o-lanterns sitting outside everyone’s porches. Little kids running around door to door, high on sugar.
To be honest, I don’t like pumpkins. Sweaters are itchy and bugs are probably hiding in those piles of leaves. Also, those leaves are rotting.I do love the colors of fall, but you will not catch me making leaf angels on the ground. Don’t get me wrong, I love apple cider and donuts but I’m not the biggest fan of farms and the smell of manure. I also love coffee, but pumpkin spice is overhyped. The Starbucks winter menu is better (also omg it came out today eeeeee). Halloween, is interesting. I don’t like carving pumpkins, the insides or too slimy and stringy. The pumpkins rot so easily too when you cut it. I go door to door while trick or treating and see bugs crawling in and out moldy pumpkins. I don’t like pumpkins in general, not a fan of the taste. Maybe I’ll like them someday…

weekly 3: procrastination
11/17-11/23 ⧉ 892/800 words
part 1 (348/300)
I have a lot of homework I have to finish and I should have finished on Friday but I ended up procrastinating on it until today. I really just want to play Animal Crossing New Horizons right now because I feel really motivated to work on my island.
I have to complete a current event for my government class. It can be pretty easily done but I just don’t want to work on it because I just find them boring. I’d also rather be working on my island right now. I worked on it a bit but then I got bored and moved on to something else.
Another thing is that I have to write my thoughts on the article and it’s hard to write stuff that’s not more controversial as they are more government related topics.
I also have to read two chapters of The Great Gatsby. I’ve been enjoying The Great Gatsby but I feel like English classes ruin reading for me. I really enjoy reading in my free time but when someone forces me to read a book I don’t like it anymore. If I start reading, then I would have to take notes and I despise taking notes while reading unless I’m listening to an audiobook or someone else reading. It disrupts my concentration and train of thought when I have to take detailed notes.
I also have to do my computer science test review again because he added two more questions. I really don’t want to do it because it’s super long and I would need to dedicate at least an hour to it.
I also have a debate I have to present tomorrow so I have to write my closing and practice the speech but I really don’t want to because that would take a while because I have to run it through a bunch of times.
I also procrastinated on this weekly because I had a bunch of other homework to do. I didn't want to start on this but then I procrastinated on everything else so I barely did anything.
part 2 (205/200)
Exercise – I haven’t been in a pool since my season ended so I went to a pool to swim this morning to clear my head. After my shower, I was able to go straight into working on my homework. Getting movement into my day helped me not feel like a lazy bum and also helped my mind set a focus on the tasks at hand.
Make goals – I started by setting a goal to read one chapter of The Great Gatsby. I got through the chapter and even finished the next chapter. Setting a small goal helped me begin a new task and after I started, it was easier to continue working and focusing for a long time. I always feel that each task is too big of a time commitment so breaking it up and starting smaller makes it a lot more approachable. I procrastinate less.
Rewarding myself – In between each homework assignment, I allowed myself to scroll on Instagram or play animal crossing so that I wouldn’t get burnt out. I really wanted to work on my island so it really pushed me to finish taking notes. It was a great balance of work and relaxing so I definitely will do that again.
part 3 (339/300)
While I was working on my homework, I used a pomodoro timer and a little time blocking. I feel like it worked okay for me. I started by working on my government homework and the timer was a great addition. I usually get very distracted when working on essays unless I get really locked into it so having the timer really pushes my focus. Knowing that I only have to work for the 10-15 minutes before a little break helped me feel a little more motivated to get my paper done.
After my paper, I moved on to my two chapters I had to read. This was what didn’t work well with the timer. I already struggle with taking notes while reading, so reading and taking notes for 15 minutes and stopping disrupted my flow. It took about an hour to just do one chapter with the
stopping and with the fact that I had to take detailed notes. I wasn’t completely sure if the
pomodoro timer was supposed to be used for these kinds of tasks, compared to math problems
and written assignments but I gave it a try.
Overall, the pomodoro technique works pretty well for me and I probably will try it out again when I do my homework tomorrow because the timers push my productivity a lot more.
I also used a little time blocking, but I don’t think it worked really well. It wasn’t a very strict time block but I only allowed myself a certain number of 15 minute sections to get each assignment done. I see how something like this would work but it did not work well for me. I was constantly
looking at the time. When I was nearing the end of the allotted time for myself I would just be like “It’s fine, I’ll add another 15 minutes,” and that cycle would continue.
Overall, I feel like maybe I wasn’t strict enough with myself and I might try this again another
time to see if it would work better.
