It would be nice if there was a general chat on scratch, made by the scratch team! Instead of spamming poor griffpatch, why isn't there an alternative, this could be at the bottom of the front page, or maybe it could become another tab (tabs are create, explore, ideas and about ) If somebody has any problems with this idea, don't worry, this is already happening on griffpatches profile,

Liking comments too would be nice, but that should be its own topic, and it has already been made into a discussion.

Theres already a lot of other popular chatrooms.
An official one on the front page would be problematic and be kinda useless.

I feel that griffpatch's profile should be good enough for now.

First, think of the insane amounts of lag that would be on this page with hundreds of people on the site commenting and replying at once. Plus, it'll be pretty hard to have a conversation if your threads are buried in seconds. Like you said, it's already happening on griffpatch's profile. If that's a negative, why replace it with another negative?

Aside from this, the reason a general chatting page is such a bad idea is already outlined for me by TOLoRS:

(6.4) it would also put a greater emphasis on the social media aspect of Scratch, moving the focus away from the project-creating aspect.

Scratch's purpose is, contrary to popular belief, learning how to code and creating projects within the Scratch interface using those coding skills. Social medias have general chatrooms, but Scratch actually isn't a social media, despite the social aspects to it.

I'm pretty sure we've addressed this in earlier suggestions. It would be a big burden to moderation. And, as pointed out above, it puts a greater emphasis on SMS-type conversation rather than project creation.
