how to make a great ad - a guide [DONT MAKE AN AD HERE MAKE A NEW TOPIC]

I assume your here to learn how to make a GREAT ad / show and tell topic! then your in the right place!

A GUIDE TO MAKING A GREAT AD!

table of contents:
chapter 1: the title
chapter 2: the OP (original post)
chapter 3: responses
chapter 4: bumping your topic

chapter 1: the title

make the title fit what you are showing!

good example wrote:

I made a new project called {insert project name here}, wanna check it out?

that shows the project name and asks a nice question at the end!

bad example wrote:

LOOK AT MY GAM!1!!1

this has 0 information, and bad grammar.

chapter 2: The OP (original post)

make the OP show your game and have a short description of what it is!

good example wrote:

I made a new game called “example” the base part of the game is you run from the enemies and collect coins

this has the project name, and what the project is!

bad example wrote:

LOOK AT MY GAM NOW!!!

this has no information on the game, or even a game name!

chapter 3: responses

if somone says:

someone wrote:

the project needs some work still, here is how you can make it better…
or even

someone wrote:

the game is bad, make it better
don't get mad! they could be right, even if you spent MONTHS on the project here how you should respond

you wrote:

Ok! how could I make it better?
short, sweet and simple!

chapter 4: bumping your topic

if you have never heard of “Bumping” your topic, it means
  • Bring
  • Up
  • My
  • Post
the way you bump is just saying “Bump” on your post (the word bump isn't special it just lets people know that it isn't providing information on the post)

bumping puts your post on the front page, there ARE RULES on bumping, you should only bump every 24 hours, and your topic must NOT be on the first page of show and tell WHATSOEVER

Lemme try that. I created a new game called Stormy Blizzard (Demo.) The game is a scrolling platformer where you collect sticks for your campfire, while traversing the levels. (I accept feedback.)

Sorry to be a pessimist, not that this isn't generally good advice, but honestly even if you do all of that, most likely your topic will still get very little egagement.

The truth is that most people only come to the show and tell forum to promote their own stuff, they don't bother checking out other people's stuff.
I put hundreds or hours into a game, followed all these rules, and only have about 300 views on my topic after a few weeks of bumping. The only reply other than my own being a sarcastic remark about me still bumping. Frankly that is still probably much better than what most people will get.

I think the only way you get a succesful topic is if:
1. You are already well known on Scratch.
2. You are at least part of some kind of group on Scratch and people within that community are active on your post.
3. Other people have something to gain out of your project; for example, a game engine that can be easily modified.

If you have little established presence on Scratch your post is probably just going to be crushed under the never ending torrent of other posts.

But your advice is still true, it's better than posting “Check out my game!”, that for sure will get nothing. But people should still manage their expectations. I think the true secret to being succesful at Scratch is mastering the social game.

I can agree with some of this! BUT I know for a FACT there is a select group of people on show and tell that comment and give people views and stuff (including me) thanks for the information though!
