Currently, a Scratch username can be anywhere from 4 to 20 characters, as all 3-character usernames are now taken (as previously stated by @kamoz99).

I'm pretty sure the last 3-character username was taken sometime in 2023ish, give or take a year or so

Almost every 4-character username is taken too I believe

I remember hearing at one point that all of the 4 character usernames that consisted of only letters were taken in December of last year

it would be 38^3, which is 54872, but the amount of accessible 3 character usernames would be less because of the filter disallowing profane words

That’s not true. I just searched a bunch of users and there’s still a whole bunch of 3 letter word names out there, including ace, and, boo, aaa, xxx, among others.

those are banned accounts, you can tell because https://scratch.mit.edu/users/ace/followers/ and https://scratch.mit.edu/users/and/followers/ lead to valid pages
