people can spam friend requests… unless there's a limit or cooldown before sending it to the same person (which would be a good suggestion come to think of it..)

I don’t really have an opinion on the request idea. It does make Scratch look more like a social media, but it also might help one organize the users they often interact with.
As for the F4F idea, two people following each other does not necessary mean the name thing as “friends”. No support for that one.
