How to make an adventure game

I am making an adventure game, like Cuphead. But I do not know how to do it! Can someone help me out and give me some code?

Not specialized in that area, but I know this video can help

For a cuphead game it might be complicated, but I'd start by making a platformer engine (assuming your game would be side-scrolling like cuphead)
