I know it may seem like a very basic question, but I've been on scratch for 2 years and never used them.

My questions are:
1) What exactly are hashtags?
2) Do they really play a big part in my project being seen?
3) I've seen users put a lot of hashtags on their projects, is that considered spamming?
4) If I use hashtags will my projects become more popular?

hashtag is a tag that is prefaced by the hash symbol. On social media, hashtags are user generated, used to refer to a specific topic. #forums #lol.

Yeah if someone search it for example: forums project with the title forums or have a hashtag in it your project will show up. also if you put the #games tag or other similar thing, it will show up on the trending games tab on explore if the project meet the requirements to be trending.

Some user spam the hashtag on their project description to be or more likely be trending (im not sure). but some people might be annoyed with it.

It depends if your project meets the criteria to be trending it will mostly be more popular. but if the project is not a bit popular i dont think it will work.

edit: the search thingy only detect the title and the description so the tags dont really work.

3. Yeah it’s an exploit where you get higher on explore if you do it, which is unfair to people who don’t want to exploit to have their project on explore.
