1k Intro: SWC March 2025!!

Alright, here goes. Time for me to write my 1k intro for SWC! Hi!! My name is chocolate! I am currently in the amazing action cabin this session of SWC (ACTIONFTW) with Kenzie, Ris, and Ayla. I have participated in SWC on my other account @C_Yee, so this is my first time participating on my camp account, but seventh time participating in SWC. The previous cabins I have been are Fan-Fi November 2022 (inactive camper), Real-Fi July 2023 (also inactive camper), Fairy Tale Academy November 2023 (semi-active camper), Script Theatron March 2024 (active camper), Folklore July 2024 (co-leader) and Sci-Fi November 2024 (active camper). My favorite session was Script Theatron March 2024 because I felt I was actually for one active that session. I feel like other sessions I get all excited about at the beginning and then towards the end I start to get inactive. I also loved this session because our cabin won!

Alright, in terms of hobbies, I absolutely love playing the cello. I have been playing since the summer before 4th grade so that would be 6 years. I am a second chair cellist at my Orchestra and we're getting ready to go on a few day trips together. I'm super excited! What I like about the cello is its resonant sound. I like how it has this beautiful voice higher than the basses, but lower than the violas (:eyes: violas). I like the friendly competition and environment that goes on in an orchestra. I feel like cellos and violas don' t agree with each other. Maybe cellos hate violas. I just think that's what people think of when people hear the word “cello” or “viola.” Maybe the whole reason why I wanted to play the cello is because you get to sit down all the time! Unlike violins and violas who are forced to stand if there are not enough chairs hehe. In addition, to cello, Listening to music is a huge part of my life. I feel that my music taste tends to change A LOT. I used to like Taylor Swift and be a swiftie, but I've come to realize that Taylor Swift is overrated and I decided to change my music style to something much better. My current artists I love are Laufey, BLU EYES, beabadoobee, ROSE and Sabrina Carpenter. I love how these artists give off a Lo-fi vibe and music like laufey and beabadoobee makes such good study music. To add on to ROSE's music, I can't stop listening to “toxic till the end” I'd say this song is probably my favorite out of her album. I think “APT.” is too overrated and I've gotten tired of that song, although occasionally I will still listen to it. omg did I mention I also play guitar? I'm still learning, but on the weekends, I like to pull out my guitar and play songs like “Riptide” by Vance Joy, “No Surprises” by Radiohead, “Romeo and Juliet” by Dire Straits and many more. As you can tell, I am very passionate about music.

Other hobbies include drawing, writing and watching some of my favorite shows. Although, I haven't done much drawing, art in general just calms me down and I'm always open to learning new styles. Recently, I've been trying to learn how to shade, but I always get frustrated because it never turns out how I want it to be so I end up turning to digital art. I guess I like this because there's a delete button in case you mess up. I also just like how it feels when you touch a drawing tablet pen or have a touchscreen to draw which is nice. As for my favorite shows, my favorite show is avatar: the last airbender which is about aang, an avatar who has to master all 4 elements to stop the fire nation from attacking. my favorite character is katara because she never gives up and if we're going the funniest character, I would say Iroh from the Fire Nation. Some of my other favorites are AP Bio and Emily In Paris. I consider Emily In Paris my guilty pleasure show because I don't like the way that Emily speaks her French as I, myself am a French speaker. Moving on to movies, I love a good comedy teen movie such as Tall Girl and Tall Girl 2. I guess I just like how I can relate to them somehow. Oh and don't forget about Mean Girls, that was a pretty good one. (RAISE YOUR YA YA YA). Oh my gosh and of course I have to talk about my writing experience. I love writing fantasy and dystopian novels. I used to write Horror stories, but they got too scary for me so I decided to cool it on the scary stuff. Sometimes I'll be in the mood to write a poem or a screenplay. Currently in my English class, we're writing a screenplay of a scene for Romeo and Juliet. We just finished the novel and we're taking 2 tests next week! I really should be studying right now instead of writing my 1k intro.

Finally, I love anything to do with nature. I love to go on hikes, go to the beach and go stargazing with my friends! I just love how you can explore nature and take aesthetic photos. Currently, I attend my school's Photography Club. The leaders there have really taught me how to proportion my photos and I've learned some useful tools like photo-editing. Photography is another big activity in my life. I just feel like it's useful and pictures like sunsets are extremely beautiful. I absolutely love joining clubs. I joined many clubs at my school. Besides Photograohy Club, I joined my Orchestra friends' biology club. We talk about Genes and proteins inside diseases. We learn tools to use for conducting research and overall just learning about the different types of proteins. Biology and Environment Science is probably my favorite Science area. I am also part of a Coding Club where we learn to code using Java and Python, but we also do worldwide coding contests. I completely forgot to mention I do coding. On the weekends, I learn how to code using the website, Python. Of course, I use scratch, but scratch is mostly used for scratch camps like swc, sic, sac etc. On scratch, I host a writing camp inspired by SWC, called Writing Universe Camp (WUC). This camp is hosted by myself and the amazing @CatMeowLove7. Anyways, I better focus on my English studying. Bye y'all and happy swc!!

@AmazaEevee: custody, murder, collequial, popsicle, snow

The year was 2348 and Isabelle was walking down the streets of the city, Gloomaria. She was just looking for a bit to eat and some warm jackets as it was snowing outside. As she was walking, she noticed signs all over the place. There were Wanted Posters of a murder that happened to the Eerie Family. Isabelle had heard of this murder before, but she didn't really understand the details. She just knew that the police wanted to put the murderer into custody, but right before they could do that, the murderer went missing. Everyone in the quiet town of Gloomaria called this scary event "The Popsicle Murders." They had believed that someone was selling Popsicle in the snow.
“Why on earth would someone be selling Popsicles in the snow?” Isabelle asked her mother.
“Nobody really knows.
Some say the murderer was just trying to get money. Others say that the murderer wasn't thinking straight” her mother replied.
“I'm going to become Detective Isabelle” Isabelle thought to herself. Her mother had told her that the murder happened near a candy store called “The Caramel Candies.” So Isabelle rushed on over to the candy store to go find more information. Isabelle knew the person running the business. His name was Mr. Harry. Isabelle decided she was just going to have some colloquial conversations with him.
“Mr. Harry, do you know about the Popsicle Murders?” Isabelle asked
Mr. Harry paused, stopping what he was doing. “Oh Isabelle, you don't know what happened that night.” Mr. Harry replied.
“So what really happened that night?” Isabelle continued to ask.
Mr Harry sighed and said, “It was snowing when two men came into my shop. One man, Mr. had a box of Popsicles. I told him to leave them out of my shop since I didn't want it to melt. Mr. Eerie me in the face…” Mr. Harry shows Isabelle his bruised red cheek.
“Anyway, of course Mr. kept his Popsicle in the store. The other man, Mr. Smith had something abnormal in his pocket. It was hard to hear, but I heard something about taking over a Popsicle business. After that, both men ran out. On the news I heard that Mr. Eerie was k8lled. My guess is that Mr. Smith k8lled Mr. Eerie because of competition for the Popsicle business. But now it's up to you. I believe in you Detective Isabelle” Mr. Harry smiled before getting back to work.

Critiquitaire Piece: Seasons

Frost touched the windows of Galmoria. There was ice everywhere. Ice on the streets. Ice on the plants. Ice everywhere. There was even an ice skating rink and an ice hockey arena near the giant clock tower which also had snow on it. There were even some days where there would be a blizzard and everyone would have to stay inside under the blankets sipping hot cocoa by the fire. What the people didn’t know was that these blizzards wouldn’t last for long. Soon, the blizzard had stopped and the town had little stands that sold little redwood trees. Even though it was cold outside, they had a fun time decorating their tree with a beautiful and colorful assortment of ornaments. Some people would even listen to special holiday music. However, when the time came, it was time to put away the ornaments and trees as it was not snowing anymore. It was the end of Winter.


The weather was showing nice sunny skies and the flowers were blooming. Red, Pink, Blue, Purple. So many colors to enjoy. The snow was gone and the flowers were here and blooming in the town of Galmoria. Nobody would know that this would change, they were just enjoying the nice weather and all the easter egg hunts. It was nice seeing and hearing the bees buzzing in the flowers as well doing a good pollinating job. Bees buzzing from flower to flower. Oh how amazing it is. This was definitely a warmer change from the cold winter. A lot more people were going outside, taking walks, playing sports, and even just talking on benches. It was definitely a nice change from the cold weather and activities. It was time for the nice weather and flowers to wither and it was time for another season.


Clouds were dusted away as the bright sun was rolling into the blue sky. It was hot! Another day, another week of staying inside with the nice cool air conditioning. The streets of Galmoria were empty again except when a few people went out to get ice cream sundaes. Even though the streets were empty, the beaches were full. People building sand castles, sunbathing and even playing in the ocean. It’s like the whole town was at the beach from playing in the ocean to watching and listening to the white-bellied seagulls fly through the town. However, just like all the other moments in time, nobody knew it didn’t last very long. Instead, they just decided they wanted to enjoy what they saw. The moments that were spent together were limited, so they had to enjoy every moment they had with each other.


All of a sudden, that beauty was taken away. The whole surroundings went dark like a piece of paper that was sharpied. A few moments later, the town was brought back only it was a little bit different. There were Red, Orange, and Gold leaves everywhere. It was very pretty. There were so many of them that leaves started piling on top of each other. There was one little girl, May, who was up at 7:30 am when the rooster crowed. She went downstairs to the backyard, put on her boots and started jumping in the piles of leaves. She had so much fun as well as the other little children in Galmoria. Soon this would all cycle back all over again and the town would experience happiness being together.

First of all, amazing job on descriptive language! I love the dialogue you use in between paragraphs - although I do think you can clarify who is saying these quotes.
In your first paragraph, I was kind of confused about where this even is located. Is this taking place in space? or is it outside of someone's house? I thought you could elaborate on the earthly counsel - who are they? what do they do? do they work for a space company?

In your second paragraph, who is he? because in your first paragraph you say “I”. Now i'm kinda confused because I'm not sure if this is in 1st person or 3rd person. When you say “explaining and pleading and bargaining,” I don't think you should choose all three since it seems hard for the reader to understand all of it, I'd say maybe just cut it down to one or two? What are the “good intentions”?? it sorta seems like you're going for mystery here, but I'm not sure if this is what you want

In your third paragraph, who are “they”? You tend to use pronouns a lot which makes me feel really lost and confused in the story. I like the simile where you say “Faces still and unchanging as the stars that circle through our skies.” Again, I think you could really clear up who is talking.

In your fourth paragraph, you switch back to 1st person which makes me confused as to whether you're in third or first person. When you say, “finally, he is finished” what is he finished with? Also when you say “…an astronomer’s desire will turn the stars from their course,” I like how you connect it back to the stars.

In your fifth paragraph, I love how you try to incorporate the Gemini constellation. Again, what person are you in? I feel like you keep switching from I to he. I like how you incorporated the simile “And as we climb, stars change from judges to guards, and they welcome us.”

In your sixth paragraph, I wish you would explain more. Why is the earth shrinking? How is it important? I like where you say “In the light of the stars, everything changes.” I like how you mention the stars and the meaning. Again, what person are you in?

In your seventh paragraph, I think you should maybe clarify a little more what exactly the plans are for. I was kinda confused when reading this and didn't understand what the plans are. I like when you say “he is brighter than any other star” because it reflects not only the brightness of him, but also reflects how smart he is too.

In your last paragraph, I was kinda confused about who will be together. I feel like “now” is a bit redundant since you say it twice.

Overall, good job! I loved seeing the amazing descriptive language. I think the one main critique you can take away from this is to clear up who is talking and the different persons. I think that you should stick to either first person or third person in this piece and not both!

ok where should I start, I have no clue where to start because really nothing happened in my day because I woke up extremely late at 11 am (yes I love sleeping!) then I couldnt get out of bed so I just was scrolling on platforms and scratch on my phone while listening to music artists such as beabadoobee and Laufey. I was also listening to rosie's new album since a friend recommended it to me. I love the song “toxic til the end” I love how it has such a perfect melody and its in a singable key. aside from this morning, I finally was able to get out of bed so I rushed on over to my computer, got onto scratch and I had only “6 messages.” that was really sad because I was hoping for more, but on some days I only get “0 messages” which is just sad. anyway, after that I ate breakfast which was chicken and waffles (yum :0). after that I had to finish some history homework. we're learning about the Russian revolution but luckily the homework was easy. it was just taking notes and answering questions. after that, I ate some cookies and watched a new show called “the irregulars.” it was pretty suspenseful and intense, but also very funny. I recommend watching it. besides that I also had to do some more prep work for writing Universe camp (on scratch) in April. that was pretty much my day!

SWC July 2025 1k-ish Intro


SALUTATIONS AND HAPPY SWC!!! <333 My name is Chocolate (she/her) and I am in the amazing timezone of PST. This will be my eighth session of SWC and I am participating in the cabin, Bi-Fi Festival of Fae with Kiara, Clev and Sophia. I am 14 years old (about to turn 15 in 14 days!) I am also an incoming sophomore in high school in which I will have to do a lot of work. But besides that, it's summer break so I suppose I should talk about my numerous hobbies, well maybe it’s not numerous, but I have quite a bit of hobbies and things I like. Okay so, I better start with some of my hobbies then.

First of all, I love to do anything with music such as playing the cello. Starting with cello, I have been playing for around 7 years, meaning I started at the end of third grade! Ever since then, I have continued it, playing in my school’s orchestra since 4th grade. Here’s a random fact, when I joined my middle school orchestra in 6th grade, I met an SWC’er, which is really funny because she’s actually co-leading my cabin this session. Her name is Sophia (@dreamysolitude). I initially wanted to play violin, but realized that I liked the cello better because the cello gets a nice mix of melodies and harmonies in an orchestra. Maybe the whole reason I liked it was because you get to sit down all the time! Whereas violins, violas and even basses have to stand up sometimes which can be uncomfortable for a long period of time. In an Orchestra, I also love how friendly people are. They are so welcoming and warm. For example, this past year I joined my high school’s orchestra and got to sit next to this really welcoming, kind, warm, nice and just amazing girl (who happens to be the first chair cellist). Ever since I sat next to her since the day we were assigned our seat, we have become friends, getting closer and closer to the point where we’re becoming besties. <33 She’s also really kind when she texts me every now and then. Even though our orchestra seats were changed around again (and I couldn’t sit next to her anymore :sob: TvT), we still keep in touch over text and I feel that warmness coming from her, behind the screen. We even talked recently about how our summer’s were going. There is no better word to explain how incredible and amazing she is. <3 Anyways, besides my yapping, I would also love to talk about my guitar-playing. I started playing guitar in 2nd grade, but my fingers hurt too much so I just stopped playing. Recently last year I was learning how to play electric and acoustic guitar. I found out that electric is easier on your fingers and liked that better. I am still learning to barre chord, but slowly I’m getting it on the electric maybe because you don’t have to press so hard? But anyways, Music is a big part of my life. Not only do I play music, but I also love listening to artists such as Laufey, beabadoobee, Olivia Rodrigo, ROSE, Sabrina Carpenter, Journiie, and a bunch of other artists. My music taste has fluctuated over the course of the years because when I was in middle school, I was really big into Taylor Swift. I was a Swiftie and didn’t listen to anything else at the time. In my Swiftie days, I loved listening to the albums Folklore and Evermore because I thought her other, older albums sounded a bit vanilla. It was just the same old, same old. But when I listened to these albums, something went off inside my brain. When I was in (7th grade?) I watched the Eras Tour on Disney+. I finally not only listened to the music, but I understood why everyone was obsessed with her. I think it was because “she appeals to so many people and people can relate to her.” I think part of it is also how her dancing and background sets are just amazing. Although I’m not a Swiftie anymore, I still understand and can relate to why certain people or SWC’ers (ahem ris?) have an obsession with her.

WOOHOO 677 words written so far, 323 words left! Anyhow, besides my obsession with music related, I will talk about my actual academic life even though I am on summer break. So as of right now, I would say that my favorite subject is definitely either math because it’s easy (although the geometry class I’m taking is for sure not easy) or science because it’s really cool learning about different scientific things. I love studying interesting animals where you get to observe them over a long period of time. However, when it comes to birds, I will not go anywhere near them. They freak me out (yikes!) I guess I’m just afraid that they will excrete their waste onto me? (there is no better way to say it) In addition to studying animals, when it comes to studying DNA and Computational Biology, I will say there is a lot of stuff that you have to learn about especially if you’re taking it in a class. However, I am part of several clubs (my first chair cellist friend happens to run both of them), one where we talk about Computational Biology and understanding a disease of our choice. Our club decided to choose Alzheimer’s which is actually pretty interesting since I’m learning that (this is where my memory is a bit fuzzy) Alzheimer’s is connected to other diseases? I would have to double check with my first chair cellist friend, but anyways, it’s pretty cool on what we are learning there! The other club I attended (there was only one club meeting) was just a generic Biology Club (a club my brother used to lead) where we hung out, learned some cool stuff about biology and then we got to see an actual turtle at the end of the meeting which was pretty cool!

Aside from my academic life, recently over the summer, I’ve also been playing volleyball with my dad and brother, learning new tips and drills of volleyball everytime I go outside. It’s been pretty relaxing and fun for me as I get a nice breath of fresh air. Also, I haven’t gone recently, but I actually went to this community pool with some friends of mine since it was so hot outside (like 90 degrees?) It was definitely good exercise for me. I really enjoy hanging out with my friends as we like to play games in the pool and talk. Aside from volleyball and swimming, I don’t really have any other sports besides yoga which I’m actually planning to take as a class next year!

Oh my gosh! I think I forgot to talk about my writing experience and art experience! Well, that’s a story for another day so I suppose I better get studying on geometry homework But anyways, super excited to get to know people this session! #bififtw! <3333

SWC Daily #1

Dearest Chuey (the toe eater),
If you obviously don’t know who I am, which you probably do know me, I'm chocolate and I am a camper of bi-fi!! And I think Sci-Fi is siblings with bi-fi so yay!! Anyways, I really like the goals you picked for this session.

Anyhow, for your first goal of hitting your word goal of 25000, i believe that you can do it. You see, I don't even think I can write that amount of words because I'm a huge procrastinator and I have a hard time coming up with things to write about. But you, on the other hand, seem to have lots of crazy and chaotic ideas. So here’s a big tip, if you’re ever out of ideas, just write. Write what flows on the page, whether it’s about toes, chicken(?), toes eating fingers or even a story called “the tale of swc.” Just write because I'm sure everyone will want to hear your brilliant and wild ideas.

As for your second goal, enter both the main category and fan-fi category of the writing comp, oh you’ll do fine! Didn’t you literally win the writing comp last session or something? Wasn’t your piece called “Heart of Stone” or something? Well I read it and I was very impressed. So I think you definitely enter again, the fanfic category and the main category. Who knows what, you might win the writing comp again in either category. Take those chances as I believe that you will truly enter something amazing <3

And Finally, your goal of sending the most wars during Cabin Wars. Well, i dont exactly know what to say for this one, but really all i can say is be fast because you will have some competition (from me hehe or balana banana). No, but if we’re being serious here, just try to have fun with it. If sending the most wars in cabin wars matters a lot to you, keep fighting for it and one day you’ll get it. Although still continue to have life>swc and of course to be chaotic >

Hello darkness my old friend, a vision planted in my brain still remains. I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night, won’t look down, won’t open my eyes because I'm unstoppable today. If the world was burning, I can’t help but falling in love so I’m in a field of dandelions, wishing on every one that you could be mine. Darkness always finds you either way, it creeps into corners as the moment fades. Been here all along so why can’t you see I’m the one who understands you. “Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever?”

When pretty isn’t pretty enough, what do you do? I hold my anger in my stomach and I’m starting to have side effects from h8ing you this much…lovely to sit between comfort and chaos. “How can you look so peaceful when you know I’m about to leave?” Once you told me to look for the north star, then you’ll see, I was lost at sea ‘til you found me and I took the road less traveled by, but I don’t know what I want so don’t ask me.

The End of The World is Arising

I lean on my older sister, begging for a shoulder to cry on, watching the sun set over the hills. I stand with the rest of my family, trying to not make any noise — not even a breath. We all hug each other, knowing that we may never see one another again. Pow Pow Pow goes gunshots in the background, where the battlefield is. My heart beats faster as I take one last look at my sister, her brown hair flying in the wind. My mouth wants to apologize to her for all of the fights we had, but we’re running out of time and I know I can’t take that risk to speak. It’s going to put my family in a lot of danger if I do so. I would never forgive myself.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Hours. Minutes. Seconds. Questions race through my head. What happens when the timer goes off? Will I ever see my family again? Is this the end of the world?
I can’t resist not speaking to her. So I whisper to my big sister, “Big Sis, Will I ever see you again?”
She leans down into my ear and softly mutters, “I’m sorry, none of us know. But I love you, always.” A bundle of tears fill my eyes as I see her walk away. With a rifle in hand, she goes to the battlefield and waves one last time to us, as the rest of us hug each other in tears. We are aware that she may never see us again. If I were to be asked to tell my sister’s story, it can be described in three words. ‘One courageous hero.’ She has always been protective of our family, it’s just hard to give her up and I never will.

SWC Cabin Wars Extra Challenge

snowyforest-: Vivian is an ambitious teenager who is an academic weapon with more extracurriculars than she can count. Her goal is to finally earn the appreciation of her parents, who obsess over her older sister, Charlotte. She loathes Charlotte, who is freespirited and the opposite of Vivian. There is a huge student council election going on that Vivian is determined to win.

At Galindo High School, there were two rival students, who loathed each other. One of which was the Vivian, extremely intelligent and ambitious, maybe even too ambitious because of the number of extracurriculars she had. The other named Charlotte was the complete opposite.With her free spirited personality, she was single minded and had one goal in life, “pass high school, go to college, raise a family.” Well it was more like 3 goals, but still it was less than Vivan's. Charlotte would always question Vivian and her life choices.
For example one day Charlotte was like,"30 extracurriculars?Don't you think you're doing way too much in one week.“ Charlotte liked to try and elevate herself to make it look like she was better when being free of extracurriculars.
”You don't know a thing about me! 30 extracurriculars is handlable!“ Vivian replied, also trying to elevate herself to make it look like she's much better than Charlotte.
”If you're not taking any extracurriculars, you're probably unintelligent!“ Vivian remarked. Charlotte started to cry.

Another thing was that there was also a huge school student council election that was going on. Vivian was anxious to sign up when Signups came up so she kept checking and checking, but still nothing. She kept checking every day, every hour, every minute, every second. She was desperate to sign up because she knew that spots were limited and she wanted to get this position so that she could put this on her college applications.
On the other hand, Charlotte was totally okay with not being on the student council position. She was fine if Vivian was on the student council leadership team and she was not.
”Honestly, I'm proud to not join the student council election“ Charlotte says with confidence. ”So be it, if Vivian wants to join it, then she can join. It's her life, She can do whatever she wants with it. My 3 goals are to pass high school, go to college, and raise a family."
Charlotte understood that she and Vivian were never close and may never be close to this day. And she accepted that.

Dance the night :skull:, barbie world, I'm just Ken

"Welcome to the Barbie World!“ Barbie welcomes as the newcomers come into the dream house. As they all walk around the neighborhood, the newcomers gasp at the beautiful, pink and ginormous houses.
”As you can probably tell, we love singing, pink, going to the beach and of course at night, we have a special event called "Dance The Night.“ We love to dance the night away at 9pm every day. We hope you can join us ever night!” Barbie says, as she moves her brunette hair behind her shoulder.
Everyone shudders in excitement, all wanting to go to the beach to just hangout with each other. They seem disinterested in what Barbie has to say so they slowly veer to the right, subtlety, trying not to draw any attention.
“Well we better put on a show for you right here to really experience what it's like here, here in the barbie dream house. Let us put on a show” Barbie says, trying not to notice that some people are disinterested.
Barbie pulls out the magical, black radio and presses a button.

All of the Barbies come out of their Barbie dream houses and start dancing, trying to get the newcomers to come back and get interested again.
Suddenly, one newcomer seems to be a little off and wanders off into a new world called “Blue World” which is the opposite of Barbie World. It's called “Ken World” where all of the Kens are trying to attract the Barbies.
One of the Ken's strike up a conversation with a newcomer Barbie.
“How you doing?” Ken says as he holds a bottle of beer.
“Oooh fine. how are you?” Barbie newcomer responds.
“doing good.” Ken says, trying to appeal to Barbie newcomer.
“what's your name?” the barbie newcomer asks.
“Ken, what's yours?” I'm Alyssa Barbie.
“Nice to meet you Alyssa! Can I interest you in a song?” Ken asks.
“Oh, of course!” Alyssa responds.
"this is one of my favorites I wrote. It's called I'm Just Ken" Ken comments.

He turns on his radio and suddenly all of the Ken's start dancing to the music.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this intro!! you start off so mysterious and it sounds so good with the sky being dull!!

Everything beneath it burned.
The world had split at the seams,

you describe this with good detail! I love when you say, “world had split at the seams” tying it to sewing.
I am confused about the part where you said “beneath it burned.” What is the “beneath” part? Are there monsters? You could describe it more in detail.

but somehow, we found each other,
in the shadow of smoke and wilted flowers.

awwww <333 I love where you say “found each other.” it really ties in a romance aspect which is just sweet <3
I love when you say “shadow of smoke and wilted flowers,” you describe with great detail and how they find each other, but it's not a pretty setting which makes it even more mysterious.

We didn’t talk about the war.
Not directly.
We talked about songs we half-remembered,
friends that were just memories,
and a dog he’d left behind
who was probably long gone.

Wait I'm confused, there's a war now? Is this like a war where you have to stay extra quiet? You could maybe dive deeper into these questions.
“not directly” is a bit broad so I think you can definitely dive deeper into that.
Oooh I like how you incorporated music into this!
Do you mean friends that don't exist? Or have they passed away?

I think that you could describe the setting a bit more. It's a bit blurry. Like are they underground? Where are they?

cruel constellations.

I love how you incorporate astronomy here, but not quite!
this is just an idea - but what if you included the types of cruel constellations the drones are like? It would add more detail onto the mood of the poem and what the drones symbolize (if people want to think deep that way)

Other nights, we didn’t speak at all.
Just passed a shared mug of tea
and let the silence settle
like something sacred.

you are really good with writing detail in your poem!!
one tiny tip you could use is what if you describe that “something sacred” to get people thinking. Is it an object?

I love how you kinda question your life choices and what goes on in the story when you say “maybe some day, everything will be okay.” it's really good to just have those inner dialogues with the character.

you use “it” a lot and I'm not sure if that's done intentionally, but I think you can definitely describe the part where you say, “something out of it” because its a bit blurry and I'm not sure what you're going for.

I love how you use the comparisons with war terms!!

They told us love wouldn’t last here.
That we were foolish,
and didn’t know any better.

Maybe you could try describing who the people are - who is “we” and “they”?
is this like a rebellion? I know this is a war, but who are the people fighting against and who are the people?

That destruction always won.

I love your detail here!!

he turned to me with dirt on his cheeks
and ash in his hair,
“I used to think love was safety,
But maybe it’s what keeps you brave

I love your detail and “coming to the end” thoughts. Again, I just wish that I could know who the characters are and what their main roles are

I think that stuck with me.
The idea that something small and unsure
could still be safe
because it was invisible to the outside.

I love this mystery vibe of something “small and unsure.” It kinda makes the reader feel like they're at the edge of their seat - it's suspenseful which makes it fun for people to predict.

Then came the long week,
they took him away to fight,
no word, no sign.

Again, I think you can elaborate on who the characters are, but otherwise I like the immense detail!

I told myself I didn’t care.
But when he came back,
mud on his face and carrying fewer words,
I just nodded.
And he nodded back.
And that was enough.

Who is “he?”
But otherwise, I like the detail you have where you say “mud on his face”, but I think you can be more detailed with the mud - what kind of mud is it? is it hard? is it soft? - there are different kinds of mud.

Later, when the ceasefire came,
we planted marigolds in the craters,
and danced when it rained.

I love the detail you give, saying that you planted marigolds. Although that's specific, I would suggest that you go more into the detail on what they look like - pretend you're reading this poem to a 5 year old who has no clue what marigolds are. try to describe them as best as you can so that they can paint a picture in their mind.

We laughed and cried at the center of the city,
splashing in the puddles.
We were still young. Still foolish.

Wait they're in the city now or were they always in the city?
I highly suggest being more detailed in telling the reader where this takes place because I thought this took place underground unless its an underground city?

But sometimes,

What it never learned how to touch.

this is a really nice touch at the end!


OVERVIEW

If I had to give one piece of advice to you, I suggest that you pretend like you're reading this to a 3 year old and write with as much detail as you can, describing the setting and who the people who are so that the reader is not confused when they read your poem story, but otherwise I'd say you did a great job with phrasing and inner dialogue. I loved how you said the flowers were marigolds instead of just saying, “flowers”, but if this is a story for other people, I highly suggest that you describe what marigolds are for people whove never seen or breathed them lol xD

hii Elly! just a fair warning that I am trying my critique as best as I can, but don't be surprised if its a bit rushed. use all the suggestions you want, but it is not required. Although, I hope you can take something out of my critique. <3

It's getting late and I rummage through my bookshelf, skimming through the spines to find the textbook I need. Sighing, I stick my arm through to the back, dipping nails into the dust. Maybe it's here? My fingertips brush a spiral binding of a notebook and I pull it out, curious. I realise, with a sudden fondness, that it's my old diary- from middle school. My assignments can wait. Flicking it open to a page, any page, I sit down on the edge of my bed and read, re-living the memories. I turn to the next page, then hesitate.

I love this intro! I love how much detail you dive into right away, giving the reader already a suspense of what is going on!

September 1st, three years ago. It was the first day back to school and I was stalling at the school gates, looking around for someone I could walk in with. “Hi,”said my friend Jiya, walking up to me. I smiled, glad to see her. She paused a few meters away from me, drink in hand, fiddling with her nails. I remember tilting my head, knowing something was wrong. “Sara, do you remember how we first met?” To that, I nodded.

I love how you're starting to set up the characters. One thing I think you really work on here is diving more into character development, like actually describe what they look like, what their personalities are etc. I hear the names of the characters, but I don't know what they are like.
Maybe when you say, “tilting my head,” instead you could say, “I remember tilting my head to Sarah, a girl with…. (describe who she is)….” I think that you definitely work on character development here.

Our friendship started in Spanish class, laughing at the teacher's accent, struggling through verbs, whispering through presentations. Notes we would leave each other on our desks, scratches of pen still remaining, tests we undertook in silent laughter. The walk to the next lesson, the parting of corridors, the ringing of the bell.

you do a really nice job introducing the setting here and especially how all the friendships start! I will say that you do use a lot commas when you say, “the walk to the next lesson, the part of the corridors, the ringing of the bell.” in my opinion, I would split that phrase up just to make it sounds cleaner and maybe describe it more(?) But I love how you use all different kinds of words!

Our friendship grew in Art class, smudging charcoal, studying expressions, carrying projects home. The late night calls and sketching stressing, the hanging out after school. I didn’t know it then, but our friendship would strain at the school entrance, Jiya sipping her smoothie as I watched her walk away, stunned. That’s when the second-guessing began. Jiya’s not oversensitive: Did I text something wrong? Jiya has other friends: Did she ever like me? Jiya wouldn’t put the fault on me: Does she think I’m below her?

aww <3 I love this part! one thing I highly suggest is that when you ask those questions, “did she ever like me? etc.” maybe put it in italics to make it more suspenseful and make the reader feel like they have to answer these questions.

A familiar ache grows in my stomach as I notice the tear splatters on the diary page. The repetitive scrawling. ‘Too quiet.’ ‘Too studious.’ ‘Too outdated.’ The list on how to improve. ‘Different clothes.’ ‘Different interests.’ ‘Different personality.’ Back then, all I wanted to do was be better, be popular, be well-liked. I changed myself so much I didn’t really know who I was anymore. The sleepovers, gossiping and dating made my shield become a mask as I wasted money on coffees I threw in the bin, wasted energy trying to prove myself to Jiya, wasted a year on fake nails and fake laughs and fake friends just for it to all come crashing down.

the fake friends, fake laughs, fake nails is so real lol </3 but anyways, again, I would suggest that you put the repetitive scrawling phrases like “too quiet”, “too studious” etc. to be in italics just so that the reader can read it a certain way (forget what its called, but I think you get what I mean)
But I love how you do this “self-reflection” which I think ties in with the story really nicely <3

I still hear those words echoing in the lunch hall.
The laughter infecting my thoughts.
The sound of my trainers on the ground as I ran away.
The smudged mascara as I stared into the mirror, horrified.
I still remember the panic.

I love how you do this reflection of the character! One thing is I think you can dive into it even more maybe like a “show, don't tell” method. like show what her actions are doing rather than telling for example “the laughter infecting my thoughts.” you could dwell more into what's making her thoughts infected. What are those words being said in the lunch hall??

Who had I become? I’d jumped in so deep it’d be easier to drown than swim out.
Who was I before? The old me is the real me but also the new me.
Who was I to care what they thought? It’s not them who mattered, it was Jiya.

Again, I think you can italicize the “who had I become, who was I before, who was I to care what they thought?” part just to make the reader feel “on-edge” as I personally think that's what the story should be going towards <3

My happiness, or the latest trend?
My future, or skipping school?
My life, or their choices?

Again, italicize this part. But I love how you spend a good chunk of the story just doing thoughts of the character. Maybe you can add different perspectives, it be really interesting to see.

That was when I knew it was time to let go of a friendship I’d treasured for so long. People grow. People change. Some stay the same. I tried my best, and it wasn’t enough to keep my friend. It may never be, and that’s alright. Now that I think about it, I ended up dropping Spanish- and Art.

aww this part is so sweet it made me teary-eyed </3 I love how you're trying to connect this to the reader with a life lesson. but I do wonder what the characters feel about this.

If I had anything I could say to my past self, I’d tell her that good things will be waiting for you, right around the corner. The best direction to look is forward, and friendships will be made because you’re worth it, just the way you are.

wait awww <333 this is such a sweet way to end the story. I love the part where it says, “you're worth it, just the way you are.” it reminds me of the way I used to be. I used to always listen to the song “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars because I reminded me that I should always be confident about myself and I'm beautiful just the way I am <3 but anyways, I think you should definitely add like one more sentence or something where it's just based off of the Just The Way You Are song by Bruno Mars. Maybe like “remember, you're amazing just the way you are.” That'd be really cool and a lot for people to think about especially if they're going through a hard time </3

OVERVIEW

overall, good job Elly!! this piece is so well-written and has so much potential to what you can do with it. here are some suggestions:
1. you can have multiple character POV's which would really make it interesting to see how the story could unfold with different thoughts, different ideas, different opinions etc.
2. you can dive deeper into some of the characters. for example, you mentioned Sarah, but she only appeared once and I was honestly hoping to get a better understanding of her role in the story and her character <3 Who is she? I think she can definitely have a bigger role in the story or maybe even just have a clearer role in who she is. I got the sense that you talked more about the main character whoever that is. I would suggest diving deeper into other characters and taking a step back from only the main character's POV and perspective.
3. you talk a lot about just the main character, but diving more into Jiya and Sarah's backgrounds and story could definitely be helpful. I was hoping to get to know more on Jiya and Sarah's role and their thoughts. In my opinion, I thought Jiya would be an interesting character to develop since she is mentioned quite a bit in the story and seems to have more of an interesting plot.

Overall, this was really fun to read and I had so much critiquing it! good luck with the writing comp elly! <333

Today, you need to choose a random picture, and write a piece about it. But wait, there's a twist! Sophia was a girl who loved to explore the outdoors, maybe even too much. She would sneak out of her bedroom at night in her white pajamas and go off in the middle of the wilderness. She lost track of so much time that her parents would be worried for her. They would never see her sneak out because she would always go out through her old, attic, bedroom window.
One day, as she was heading out, she came across a barren road with some bright lights coming her way. She thought she heard someone scream “WATCH OUT!!”
But yet, it could have been her own thoughts being drowned out by a mysterious fog that started to cover the forest and the road.
She also saw some power lines hanging and thought to herself.
“Well, I could always hang on these if I need somewhere safe to be” she thought.

You see, no one really knows what truly goes on inside someone's mind. Sophia definitely didn't know what was going on inside her own mind, her mind was chaos like a maze.
All we know is that instead of getting to safety, Sophia just kept running on the road, towards the car, with her black hair flying in the wind. She didn't have a sweater. All she had was her crazy mind and her white short-sleeve pajamas to keep her warm.
Recently, she's been a little bit strange. Sneaking out of bed at night to go outdoors is strange behavior. I will talk to her about her life when she gets home - if she gets home.

If I were asked to describe my sister in three words, I would say she is ‘One courageous hero.’ She has always been protective of me. For example, when I was really little, there was a stranger who didn't respect who I was even though I did nothing wrong. However, my big sister stood up for me. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind to say that I did nothing wrong. She was so confident and is a good role model in my life. Now it’s too hard to give her up and I never will. But she has taught me to never stop speaking my mind and be strong in my opinions because she loves me so, so much!
