valentines ~ cat’s src april ‘25 leader application: text version
——
About me
Hi, my name is Cat! I’m 13 years old, my pronouns are she/her, and I reside in the (sometimes) lovely time zone of CT! I’ve been on scratch for over seven years, on another account, so I have been here for a while. I discovered SRC in December 2023, and nowadays, if I’m not doing something scratch camp related, I’m usually reading, writing, drawing, playing viola, singing, trying new things, and hanging out with my friends!

Reading is one of my favorite things to do. Some of my favorite books are Six of Crows, Scythe, and Powerless! A fun fact is I’m going to Lauren Roberts’s new book reading (the author of Powerless) in April! I usually read dystopian and fantasy novels, but I love all different kinds of books <3

I’m a huge music nerd, and my favorite artist is Laufey! I try to listen to music whenever I can because it helps me relax, focus, and forget whatever I’m worrying about. I’ve also been playing viola for seven years, and I’m trying to teach myself to play the piano and sing.

I’m a huge writer, also in dystopian or fantasy, but occasionally poetry! I play a little bit of tennis, pickleball, and field hockey and I love watching volleyball!

I’m also interested in psychology and why we behave as we do! I love to read about psychology. Some other random things: I just finished Friends, and I’m currently watching Arcane, Severance, Happy Endings, and Apple Cider Vinegar, I’m a lefty, I’m an aspiring artist and baker, and I lucid dream <3

Participation
I’ve been in SRC since December 2023! I’ve also participated in, led, and hosted many other scratch camps. I’ve participated in three sessions of SRC and all three were amazing experiences!

Here is a list of my past SRC cabins and roles:

SRC December 2023 - Epistolary (camper)
SRC August 2024 - Myth (camper)
SRC December 2024 - Fairy Tales (camper)

My first time camping in Epistolary was very exciting! I was nervous but quite happy I’d found an outlet for my reading and met many others who shared my interest! I unfortunately ended up missing the April session, but I rejoined in August! I was much more active during that session, and I made wonderful memories. I joined Fairy Tales in December, and now here I am, applying!

On scratch, I manage many studios, such as the top OC RP and Scratch Chat.

Outside of scratch, I usually take the lead on group projects and activities, and I have led many orchestras. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, and I try to dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to reading.

House Preferences
The houses that I would most like to lead (in no particular order) are romance, fairy tales, utopian, dystopian, mystery, and thriller! There are no houses I would particularly not like to lead.

Romance - the Moonlit Cafe
Campers gather around a charming cafe with hanging fairy lights and soft music, all while gazing out at the breathtaking night sky. The Moonlit Cafe is a cozy, whimsical place where friendships blossom. However, the campers stumble upon an old diary, revealing the enchanting past of the cafe! It becomes clear the cafe may have a more complex history.

Fairy tales, utopian - the Crystal Isles
Campers live in floating, crystal islands in the sky. Unfortunately, near the beginning of the session, in the middle of an event, there is a shaking, like an earthquake, and it appears that the floating islands are starting to crack. An evil force is behind it, and they must figure out who or what it is to protect the islands.

Dystopian, mystery - the Secret Society
Picture this, a hidden society that nobody knows about, but manipulating the world from behind the scenes. The leaders are in on the secret, and though the campers are members of the society, they are there under the pretense that their home is a refuge from the rest of the world. Eventually, they start to notice little things that showcase their society’s true manipulative nature, and they try to uncover the secrets of the group’s control.

Thriller - Severance
Based on the show Severance (though you don’t need to have seen it), campers wake up and are told they have chosen to do a procedure to separate their work memories from their home memories, in a process known as severance. They are told they work for a company called Lumon, but they notice strange things are happening. Maybe Lumon might not be as simple as they thought.

Time Dedication
I will be able to dedicate at least 1 hour a day to SRC! I don’t have any known irl commitments during March and April, but I have SWC in March, I’m hosting WUC in April, and leading SJC. However, I pride myself on organization, and I’m good about not taking on too much responsibility. That being said, I wouldn’t apply for this if I didn’t think I had the time.
✓ I will notify the hosts and my (co)leader if I need to take a break or will become inactive.

Reasons for Applying
I am applying because I love reading and SRC, so I want to get more involved with the camp. I also enjoy being a leader!

Starting with my strengths, I consider myself inclusive, adaptable, and honest. I try to be as inclusive as I can because I know what it’s like to not be included, and I want to make the Scratch community as amazing for everybody as it is for me.

My main weakness is that I can be very submissive. I’m a pretty quiet person in real life, so I don’t like to share my opinion as much as others. I’m the youngest in most of my social circles, so I have fewer opportunities to speak out. I’m trying to grow out of my reserved habits, though I’m still a people-pleaser.

A “Good Leader”
To me, a good leader is someone kind and patient, especially with people with less experience. Every (co)leader I’ve met has been friendly and welcoming to others, which is a huge part of creating a supportive community. It’s also important to be adaptable and committed to their responsibilities. I admire these types of leaders because their kindness and passion help make camp so enjoyable!! (65 words)

How will I make my house enjoyable?
I want to make my house enjoyable by creating a warm and welcoming place where everybody can build amazing memories while supporting personal goals! I also want to think of fun activities like questions of the day to start conversations! I’d also like to include matching pfps since those have connected cabins I’ve led before!

Past Sessions
There are many things I’ve seen (co)leaders do that I’ve liked! In my experience, matching pfps is a must-have! It boosts cabin morale a lot, gives you something to work towards, and can change your experience! Something else I’ve seen, as crazy as this sounds, is simply replying to adding pages! If you do this promptly, you can start some conversations about the books you’re reading and maybe find people with similar interests!

One thing I could improve on is my activity. Near the end of the session, I can sometimes find myself being less active. I add pages promptly, but I may find myself completing fewer and fewer dailies. This is a flaw of mine and something I’m working on.

Suspicious Pages
If a camper added a suspicious number of pages, I would message them in a discreet place, like an old project or far down in their profile comments, asking for more detail about what they read and a summary of what happened in the story. If they did not cooperate, I would not add the pages and notify a host of the situation.

Checkboxes
✓ I will be active 4/7 days a week during camp.
X I am applying for co-leader only.
✓ I understand all of the (co)leader responsibilities listed in Nat’s project.
✓ I have (co)led a cabin in SWC, SRC, or SAC before.

“ Welcome everyone, to the 24th session of SWC! For the first daily of March, we’d like to ask you to introduce yourself in the main cabin; share your interests, and maybe respond to others! Once you’ve done that, you can choose one aspect of what you’ve told others - or what others have told you - and reimagine it as a location! What sort of landmarks would it have? What would the people be like? Would there even be people? Have an amazing day, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with! ”

⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆ ୨୧ ⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆

Hi hi! I’m Cat, and welcome to my 1k intro! I’m co-leading Illu-fi this session with Mouse, Amber, and Ave!! I’m actually so hyped for this session!

Now where to start? I’m 13 years old! Fun fact, my birthday is November 1st, which was my first day of SWC! Last session, when I was co-leading with Ris, I mentioned that I was in denial that I would wake up and be a teen, so when I went to sleep, she got everyone to comment happy birthday!

Now more about me! My pronouns are she/her, and I reside in the (sometimes) lovely time zone of CT (central time, or cat time, or cut time)! I’ve been on scratch for seven years and seven months, on another account (I was six so I was a bit odd), so I have been here for a while. I discovered SWC in November of 2023!! This is my fourth session and second time co-leading in SWC!

If you know me, you know I’m a violist! It’s one of my only hobbies aghstcf so I try to be dedicated! I’m in suzuki book six so around grade 4, and I’m currently working on Hungarian Dance No.2! I’ve been playing for seven years. I have lots of friends who play violin but I frequently argue with Rose and Skylar about how violas are better :eyes:

I love to read! My favorite book is Six of Crows, and I absolutely love dystopian novels! Some of my favorite books are Powerless (I actually get to go see a Lauren Roberts book reading soon) and Red Queen, and I’m currently reading the Renegades series, the Inheritance Games, and Max in the House of Spies.

So I got into SWC from my older sister (though she left Scratch a few years ago)! I was just existing and she was typing on our computer, so I went over and she told me about SWC! It took me a while to join though, but little did she know it would be such an amazing experience for me!

My first SWC session was in Fairy Tales in November 2023! I was a bit inactive, though I wrote 14000 words, I barely ever commented in the main cabin xD nevertheless, it was a fun session and I made lots of friends from that session that I still have today! Sometimes I go through my old writing in Docs and I realize I was actually a decent writer-

On to my next session, High Pressure Washing Machine Cabin!!!! AKA Script in July 2024! I was literally 250 words away from my word goal :sob: but I was more active this session! I was with the wonderful Luka, Maia, Blau, and Yume (again)! I definitely enjoyed this session and the episodes were so fun to watch! I was a bit more active and I was welcomed by the SWC and Script communities (we were very high pressure)

NEXT SESSION YAY! I decided to apply and the amazing amazinggg Ris offered to me! So I co-led Dystopian with her and Niko! Even though our storyline didn’t exactly work out this was one of my favorite sessions and I cannot explain to you the joy when I woke up to an offer!

Then skip to this session! I applied again—my app was not very good lol—but I got THREE OFFERS WOAHH! And now I’m here! (what happened to good grammar lol). I’m so hyped for this session and I think it is going to be great! We have an amazing storyline and I’m actually so excited!!

Oh and if you’re reading this from the future, I was definitely right and Illu-fi won by 9999999 points!

I really want to get to 1000 words but I ended up being awfully blunt about everything- so here’s a little more about me! Enjoy!

I don’t know who I want to be when I grow up! My mom is a lawyer and my dad works in data management, which are both interesting subjects I am considering! I would also love to be a musician, therapist, artist, or work in IT!

I would love to be a musician because viola is one of my favorite hobbies and I love the sound of music! Being a therapist sounds fun because I love to comfort and communicate with people, and psychology is also really interesting to me! I’m also basically the therapist of my friend group- I would be an artist for obvious reasons, I love art (not that much and please don’t judge my art so maybe not artist lol).

I had a performance of Beetlejuice for our school musical (I’m on lights crew) and me and my friends walked to get ice cream after! As we were walking around downtown (around 9pm) we saw three really creepy men so we got scared and walked back to the ice cream shop- we drove home and I went to sleep!

Today, I woke up at 6:30 even though I wanted to sleep in… I had a joint viola lesson with my friend because we are doing a duet, I went home and did a short family meeting, then I walked to a cute store with my friend! We walked back to her house, got Dunkin (I got a donut for me, one for her, and one for my sister ), and played with her dogs! One is named Chili and he is literally the sweetest puppy! The other one is named Stella, but I call her Stelly! She’s really vicious sometimes and gets dirt on all of my hoodies but she is so sweet when she is calm! Her cat is named Tippy and she’s so sweet! I came back home, and now I’m here!

Okay, if you actually read all of that, I’m impressed! Hopefully you learned a bit more about me!

This session is going to be absolutely incredible and I can’t want to get to know everyone!! <3

In the Capital, the heart of society, the shining city of the elite, I found myself standing alone, a whirlwind of emotions surging inside of me–fear, anticipation, and determination.

For a moment, my eyes are dazzled by the harsh sunlight, but they adjust quickly, the world around me coming into focus. I see a sea of gleaming faces in the stands, each filled with excitement, but their loud cheers are drowned out by the frantic drumming of my heart.

I glance around the arena, my heart racing as I look around at the other tributes, all standing on pale grey platforms an equal distance from the Center, their bodies tense like coiled springs. Among them is Noah, the boy from my district. Our eyes lock for just a heartbeat, and he offers me a soft smile that offers a moment of comfort before the chaos, but when I look back at the others, I feel an icy chill creep up my spine. They all look ready to rip my heart out.

In the Center, I spot an array of weapons: four sturdy bows, a quiver full of arrows, and a gleaming knlfe, its blade catching the light. A surge of adrenaline pulses through me at the sight. Good. I could work with that, at least if I have the guts to fight for it.

Each second feels heavier than the last, the atmosphere thick with tension as the countdown looms. At that moment, all uncertainty fades away and is replaced by a single instinct–survival.

“And let the Games begin!” The announcement rings throughout the arena, a signal for the chaos to erupt.

With the countdown hitting zero, the world around me becomes a blur of movement and sound, Tributes running, some towards the weapons, some seeking shelter or allies. I sprint towards the Center, the desire to survive propelling me forward from the chaos. The Games had begun, and I was ready to fight.

Have you ever been making tea and boiling the water and wondering, why is your teapot so boring? Or perhaps you’ve wanted to make tea, but realized that your teapot was too… Not red? These are problems faced everyday by SWCers and tea drinkers alike. We at CatPot Industries have come up with a solution.

Introducing the Tapple—a teapot, but not like any other teapot! At first glance, it's only a charming teapot with an apple-shaped handle. Cute, right? But once it’s heated, things get… interesting! When the kettle starts boiling, or whatever a kettle does, don’t be surprised if the apple starts glowing with a red light! After all, at CatPot Industries, we always keep you guessing!

This teapot comes in six snazzy different versions, aside from the Tapple! We have the Tango, the Tineapple, the Tiberry, the Tibanana, the Tiwi, and the Tatermelon! These colors have new designs and features! For example, the Tango has a special green mango lid with a green light, and on occasion, it expels arson mangoes*! A very useful feature, if I do say so myself.

If you’re wondering about the mango. Umm. Stop wondering. It also doesn’t make your tea taste like mangoes. Or anything. Or arson.**

Our products are almost always the cause of not being able to fall asleep! That way you can stay up all night, scared of the arson mangoes, but you can write a lot for cabin wars! And in general! Get your cabin to first! Yay!

So the next time you are making some tea with your boring, ornate grey kettle, give us a call and order the Tapple! It’s not for the faint of heart! Buy it cheap, starting with the low, low price of all of your mangoes (no fried ones allowed)! You can enter the promo code “gEtMoUsEyToStOpEaTiNgCaRsAnDbUyMyWeDdInGfRiEdMaNgOeS” at checkout to get 5% of your next first but only last order! Oh, and no refunds. Why would you ever need one?

Disclamer: CatPot Industries products are /not/ FDA approved. Just. Umm. Don’t read the fine print.

Another disclamer: We are not responsible or liable for any damage caused by our products

Side note: It says mango arson on the box. Just. Don’t pay attention to that.

*These are guaranteed not to burn your house down just don’t read the fine print
**no explanation for that

“ Ancient sailors and wayfarers looked to the sky to guide themselves using the very same constellations we see today. There are currently 88 recognized constellations, so for 450 words and 350 points (plus 100 points for sharing), write about one of these starry collections for this SWClassic daily! ⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆ ୨୧ ⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆

Cassiopeia is known as one of the greatest constellations in the night sky. Her story is an unfortunate one, of a queen destroyed by her own pride. Her story takes place long, long ago, in a place called Ethiopia.

Ethiopia was the kingdom nestled in the stars. A special place, full of magic and lost glory. The citizens were believed to be the tallest, most beautiful people in the world. They were rumored to be unimaginably wealthy, with chains of gold. They supposedly smelled like violets, though the queen wouldn’t know. She was too preoccupied with herself and her appearance.

Combing her long locks one day, she impulsively made a vain comment, as she often would. Cassiopeia had boasted that both her and her daughter, Andromeda, were more beautiful than the old sea nymphs called the Nereids. The Nereids considered themselves and were in fact very pretty. They prided themselves on this, so although beauty was in the eye of the beholder, this was quite offensive to them. Such a vain comment could not go unpunished, so one Nereid, Amphitrite, asked Poseidon to punish Casseopoeia for her vanity.

“Poseidon?”
“Amphitrite. You wish to punish the queen?”
“Correct. Such a vainglorious comment wouldn’t go unpunished by the gods, would it?”
“No, it would not. I suppose I will take care of it. Cetus?”

Poseidon bowed to Amphitrite’s request and sent Cetus, a monster, to attack Cassiopeia and her husband’s country.

“Mother, no!”
“I’m sorry. It’s for the best.”
“How could you-”

For the sake of protecting their own lives, Cepheus and Cassiopeia chained their own daughter, Princess Andromeda, to a large rock by the sea as a sacrifice for the monster. This did not, in fact work, because Perseus rescued the princess and slayed Cetus in another story of legend. Eternally grateful, Andromeda decided to marry Perseus, but Cassiopeia’s actions would not go unpunished, yet again.

“Cassiopeia?”
“Yes?”
“I’m truly sorry.”

The vain queen’s face contorted in agony. Poseidon had chained her to her throne, the very essence of her glory. Her pride had been her downfall and nearly destroyed their kingdom.

Poseidon, the king of the sea, declared she was to be turned into a constellation. Casseopeia and her husband were sentenced to live forever in the stars, reflecting on what they could’ve done and what mistakes they’d made. If not for their own selfishness, their future could have been much greater. In the end, their demise was only their own fault.

To this day, many, many years later, if you would only take a look into the night sky, you would see the story of the vainglorious king and queen, chained to her throne, because stories live forever. You see, Cassiopeia had never really been forgiven.

Moongrove was a fairy-inhabited island off the coast of the North Shores, or what would come to be known as… You wouldn’t know. And neither would the fairies. You see, that’s what was so special about the fairies. They weren’t ordinary like you and I, but something completely extraordinary.

These fairies were called the Ainsae, roughly translating to “The People of the Moon” in their native language, for they were closest to what was known in modern times as moon fairies. They spoke a lost language, one called Dolphae. This was a modified form of English, yet it came centuries before modern day English. This was part of what was so special about the fairies. They knew things before they were meant to be known. Before they existed. This was one of the aspects of their culture, guarding the valuable knowledge of what was to happen with knowing exactly when or how. This was the powerful duty entrusted to them by the gods.

The one responsible for this valuable knowledge was called the One. The leader of the Ainsae, the One was entrusted with all of the knowledge of what had happened and what was to come. Almost like the Giver. It was rumored that the One had been born with the power of the gods' knowledge bestowed upon them, but they weren’t allowed to use that knowledge to harm others, which made the One always trustworthy. This was why they were at the center of society. That and for the benefit of the rare fairies who only wanted to curry favor with the gods.

The One was the benevolent ruler and focal point of society, meaning that all other fairies were equal. Because of this, any attempt to rise up above their peers was highly frowned upon. If all the fairies were fine with it, why couldn’t anyone be? Any fairy trying to avoid their duties or stray from tradition was punished as well by the One. This was not an injustice from the One, for as said earlier, the One spoke for the gods and the gods were the fairies’… well, gods.

part 3┊501/500 words

The fairies’ discovery of celestial portals caused conflict within the Ainsae. You see, these portals connected the old moon, where the fairies lived, and the Earth. As one might have thought, this caused major division among the fairies. Some wanted to expand the fairy realm to the Earth and other places, while others wanted nothing to do with the celestial portals, even destroy them entirely. This ignited fierce debates and deep divisions within their society.

This division went beyond just quarreling between the sides of opposing views. Society separated itself from each other, creating two core groups. One, in favor of using the celestial portals, still called themselves the Ainsae, for the One was on their side, and they thought they had the blessings of the gods to use the celestial portals to help themselves. They believed that the celestial portals were gifts from the gods themselves, allowing them to grow and flourish in ways they could only dream of on the moon. The other group, in stark contrast, named themselves Lunar, after one of the moon gods, Luna. They believed that the celestial portals were dangerous gateways, evil enough to threaten the very essence of themselves. They argued that their culture and traditions should not be hurt for the sake of exploration. They vowed to never come in contact with the celestial portals. As conversations turned into confrontations, the united Ainsae found their society falling apart, no longer one united nation of fairies, but two opposing groups. However, both groups met similar ends.

The Lunar managed to endure the isolation of the moon for three thousand more years. Yet, time took its toll, and eventually, the last of the Lunars faded. Whispers of their once vibrant culture were now only echoed, leaving behind only whispers of what had been, as a reminder of what was lost.

Meanwhile, the Ainsae's adventures continued, using the celestial portals to travel further and further from the moon, propelled by their thirst for adventure. With each adventure, they grew more reckless, convinced they could withstand anything. Their immense need for adventure, however, led to their brutal demise. As they sought to see the sun, they encountered a force beyond their understanding. The sun, more powerful than any portal or fairy magic, consumed them, as they would any mortal, though the fairies were not mortal. One traveler said their constant use of celestial portals had weighed down their bodies because they had traveled to the sun once before and been alright.

In the end, the Newfound Ainsae, those who embraced the celestial portals and sought to define their legacy, couldn't escape the consequences of their ambition. They survived for a total of sixty thousand years, but their stories ended in tragedy, a cautionary tale for those who would want to explore the unknown without regard for their safety or the safety of their realm. The lessons learned through both of their fates echoed through the skies, a reminder of the delicate line between ambition and consequences.

part 4┊865/800 words

Ayla brushed the dew off her wings, watching the soft glow of the sun through the leaves above her. It was an ordinary morning, but she couldn't help feeling something was off. The air felt different today, thick with the scent of impending doom. The wings, usually gentle across the North Shores, had a strange bite. She shook her head, pushing her thoughts away. There was much to do. She grabbed her small satchel, filled with books, and flew down the narrow blue path towards the center of Moongrove. The world here was quiet, far away, and life on Moongrove was simple. The same routine–gathering herbs and stardust, cleaning old portals, playing with younger fairies, gathering in the moonlit fields.

At the center of the village stood an ancient celestial portal, more worn than Ayla had remembered. A long time ago, the portal had shimmered with light, but now it was only a doorway, cracked stone, barely holding on to the magic. Ayla stopped to inspect it. The Newfound Ainsae had been visiting Earth through the portals for generations, but after the fall of the Lunars, there was a hesitation lingering in the air. Many fairies had lost interest in crossing over. They spoke less about the portals these days, and some kept watchful eyes.

She set her bag close to the ancient celestial portal, brushing away some stardust. Ayla reached into her satchel and pulled out a book titled “The Fault in Our Stars”.

“Do you think the One is returning soon?” A voice asked.

Ayla turned to see a younger fairy, her thin wings like pale blue feathers. Her eyes were wide with curiosity.

“They will return soon,” Ayla replied with a soft smile. “The One is always here. In the air we breathe, in the glow of the moonlight, in the soft winds that carry us.”

The fairy stared at the portal for a moment. “Isn't the portal dangerous?” she asked, her voice much too loud for the early hours of the morning.

“Some say so,” Ayla answered. “It's only dangerous if you consider it to be. You haven't heard of the Lunars, have you?”

The young fairy shook her head.

“Once upon a time, there was a group of fairies called the Ainsae.”

“Aren't we the Ainsae? Then who are the Lunars? I'm confused.”

“Just listen for a second, it'll all make sense. Once upon a time, there was a group of fairies called the Ainsae. One day, the One found an odd rock structure, much like this one.” Ayla gestured towards the ancient portal. “As you know, the One had been bestowed the power of the gods. The gods instructed the One to activate the structure with their magic, so they did. The structure started glowing purple, and upon examination, it was revealed that it possessed the power to teleport fairies between realms, such as the Earth.”

“So who are the Lunars?”

“We're getting there! Such an exciting discovery wouldn't go unnoticed by the Ainsae. Thus, conflict emerged. Some wanted to use the celestial portals and expand our realm, and some wanted nothing to do with them, even destroy the portals entirely. These groups eventually separated into what we know today. We are the Newfound Ainsae, the ones who believed we should use the portals to help ourselves and expand our realm. The Lunars were the ones who rejected the portals and went into isolation. A little while ago, a rumor was going around here that they went extinct.”

“That's awful!” The young fairy's face crumpled.

“I know… an unavoidable end. Some say it's only stories, but I think-”

“Everybody! Gather around!” an elder shouted. His bright purple wings contrasted his moody face.

Ayla felt a chill as the elder's voice echoed through the grove, breaking the hush of the morning. The younger fairy turned her wide eyes towards Ayla, filled with a mix of excitement and uncertainty.

“There are matters of great importance that we must discuss,” he announced, his voice commanding attention.

As the other fairies began to gather, Ayla sensed unease in the air. She glanced at the celestial portal, once a symbol of adventure, but now like a guarded secret.

“Do you think it's about the Lunars?” the young fairy whispered, her voice lined with curiosity.

“I'm not sure,” Ayla replied, frowning. “It's probably something significant. The elders don't call for gatherings without a good reason.”

The elder began to speak again. “Today, we face a grave decision. Our world is shifting, and the balance of our magic is in danger. We've received troubling news from the East, a disturbance at the portals.”

Concern rippled through the crowd. The elders had never mentioned disturbances. Ayla's heart quickened.

“The Lunars have been spotted. They are rumored to be regrouping. They hold great disdain for us and our use of celestial portals.”

Ayla exchanged terrified glances with the young fairy.

The elder paused, letting his words sink in. “We must decide whether to reinforce our defenses around the portals. Some of us propose we should close them completely.”

The elder's words echoed in her mind. No. This decision could change everything. Ayla spoke.

“We can't close the portals.”

The elevator creaked to a halt with a sudden jerk. For a second, it felt like I was on a ride at an amusement park—if it was designed by somebody who had a major hatred for having fun. Inside, it was just me and a stranger. Standing there. The lights flickered. Yellow and blinding then gone. Off and on. Off and on.

”Is now a bad time to tell you I’m claustrophobic??” the stranger asked. His blonde brow furrowed and I plaster a grin on my face.

”Yes. Yes. A very bad time.” I replied. I was freaking out. My heart was racing and I was almost certain the strange boy could hear my pulse through my winter coat.

Oh no. I was overheating. I threw off the ivory coat and took a deep breath. One. Two. Three. No. What’s two? Inhale. I’m confused. Exhale. I’m stressed. Inhale. I’m overheated. I’m-

The stranger collapsed, hitting the ground with a thump. I gaped and ran over to him. Had he fainted or passed out? His cheeks were a bright red, and I felt his forehead. Burning. What was happening? The lights flickered red as if they were alerting me to the danger of the elevator. My thoughts raced in frantic circles, urging me to get out.

Get me out. Get me out get me out get me out get me out get me out. Get me out of here.

Desperation welled up inside of me, and I let out a high-pitched shriek, just to see if anyone could hear me. The sound only echoed against the cold metal walls. The walls that it felt like were closing in on me. I stood up and paced. Oh no. Get me out get me out get me out get me out of here. I felt my heart pounding in my chest. Each passing second felt like an eternity, and I couldn’t but wonder how long I would be trapped here.

The wind blows through my hair as I lead Noah deeper into the woods. I hold my lantern up as we weave through the trees, delicate leaves raining down on us. Each step we took seemed to echo through the stillness of the night.

Finally, we reach where I want to go. The blue blossoms are in full bloom, their vibrant colors growing around the jagged wooden fence. I can see the soft glow of the moonlight through the branches above, making the flowers seem almost ethereal.

I point towards the little blue butterfly and I turn to Noah, catching a glimpse of the moonlight reflecting off of his beautiful blue eyes. The world around us was fading away at the moment.

“Look at it. It's beautiful,” I say, my voice barely above a whisper as if speaking too loudly might destroy the moment.

“It's…” Noah stares for a moment, his gaze unwavering, then turns towards me. “Stunning. Just like you.”

His words make my heart race. I stare into his eyes, shining and pretty, mirroring the blue sky above us.

“I always come here when I need to clear my mind. It's like the woods speak to me, reminding me of everything beautiful.”

Noah nods, his expression softening. “I can see why. It feels… almost sacred here.” He looks down at the flowers, then back at me. “You have a way of finding beauty in the world.

I feel a warmth spread through me. I gesture towards the butterfly, the moonlight illuminating its wings. ”Let's make a wish,“ I suggest. ”For this place. For us. For whatever our future holds.“

Noah smiles. ”I like that idea.“ He takes my hand gently.

We both close our eyes and make our wishes, letting the quiet of the woods take over us. At the moment, under the starry sky, I feel something, as if our wishes were connected in some ways we couldn't yet understand.

We open our eyes, and our gazes lock once again. The wind whispers through the leaves, carrying our wishes like a promise.

Once upon a time, in a vibrant forest brimming with life, there lived a spirited girl known as Little Red Riding Hood. She was a familiar sight to the woodland creatures, as she often delivered treats to her beloved grandmother who lived on the other side of the woods. However, unknown to Red, her grandmother had recently met someone new, a charming wolf named Wolfgang.

Because of this, family gatherings had been less about Red's delicious homemade muffins and more about dat3 nights for Grandma. But Wolfgang found himself in a predicament. Although he loved Grandma very much, he thought Red's frequent visits might be… Interfering with their blossoming relationship, young as they both were. “If only he could find a way to divert her attention…” he thought to himself.

This hinderance brought a devious plan to Wolfgang's mind. He decided that the best solution would be to get rid of Little Red for a while. He could only imagine Red scr3aming, “I don't want to dle! Especially to a wolf as handsom3 as you, Wolfgang! I'm too young and pretty!” Oh, he could already see the terrified expression on her face. After all, what on earth could be wrong with a little harmless mischief?

On her journey through the woods to her Grandma's house, Little Red hummed a little tune happily, unaware of Wolfgang's intentions. She picked up red roses along the path, Grandma's favorite, and she imagined the delicious muffins she would share with her.

Meanwhile, Wolfgang was already waiting inside Grandma's cozy little cottage. Red entered, and her heart filled with joy at the sight of her grandmother. The room was dimly lit, so Red could see nothing more than the outline of her grandmother and her nightgown.

“Why hello, Little Red! Come in, my dear!” her Grandma called, in a voice rather… pitchy.

Red raised an eyebrow and stepped a little bit closer. “Oh Grandma, what big eyes you have!” she exclaimed.

“All the better to see you with, my dear!” she replied.

“And what big teeth you have!” she added.

“All the better to eal you with!” she said, teasingly.

“Tell me, by chance,” Red took a small step back and her back hit the door. “Where is Wolfgang?”

“Oh, Wolfie? He's not coming today.” Her Grandmother gr0wled. “And neither are you.”

The lights flickered on, and Little Red scr3amed.

“Everything okay, Wolfie dearest?” Grandma called from the kitchen.

“Oh yes. It's perfect.” The little grey wolf Iicked his lips.

Clara was standing in her quiet garden, a place she had been drawn to since childhood. Beneath the sunlight, the vibrant colors of the flower petals brought a smile to her lips, though her heart was heavy. Today, she needed the flowers more than ever.

Each blossom spoke volumes, offering her expression when her words dailies her. She crouched down and picked up a small flower, the delicate white petals of the orange blossom standing out prominently like tiny stars in the night sky. They had always reminded Clara of the innocence and purity of her childhood, of days spent sleeping under the stars. But today, the petals were a constant reminder of what she had lost.

With a sigh, Clara turned her gaze to the sweet peas. Their soft petals reminded her of departure and bittersweet farewells. Just last week, she had waved goodbye to her grandmother from the steps of her house, a moment filled with joy and laughter before the grief had set in. She could almost hear her grandmother encouraging her to cherish the moments that mattered most. Her grandmother's kind words and wisdom settled around Clara, much like a warm embrace, even in the midst of so much sorrow.

Looking down again, Clara's eyes found the bright marigolds that lined the garden path. Their vibrance was a stark constant to her sorrow. She clutched the flower to her chest, feeling its texture against her skin. A single tear fell down her cheek, reflecting the sunlight as it fell. Only days ago, she had lost her grandmother, the light of her life. She knelt to carefully place a few marigolds at the base of her grandmother's favorite tree. The tree felt like a guardian, standing tall and protecting the bonds grown over the years between Clara and her grandmother. “Rest well, Grandma,” she whispered, feeling both the weight of her loss and the warmth of their shared memories.

As she rose to leave, Clara took a deep breath. She noticed a gentle breeze fluttering through the garden, carrying the scent of orange blossoms. In that soft air, it was like she felt the presence of her grandmother, a reminder that love never truly leaves.

Julie stood at the edge of the bustling cafe. Her fingers lightly traced the rim of her chipped coffee cup, and the aroma of coffee beans wrapped around her like a warm blanket. She remained still, her gaze fixed outside. A light rain drizzled down, and Julie could hear the soft tapping of water droplets on the pavement. People hurried by with giant umbrellas in muted colors.

The cafe's door swung open, letting out a rush of warmth and a bell chiming cheerfully. A small child and her mother walked up to the counter, but still, no eyes turned to Julie. She remained in her world, the soothing sound of the pattering rain bringing her a strange sense of calm.

Julie sipped her coffee, a warmth spreading through her. She let out a small sigh. With each drop from the sky, her thoughts seemed to ripple, fragments of the dreams of memories she hadn't thought about in years, all resurfacing. The rain, persistent yet gentle, weaved in and out of the lives flowing around her. Julie stood there, unmoving, basking in other's happiness, never quite reaching it for herself.

A couple passed by, hands intertwined, their laughter above the sound of the rain. She watched as their cheeks flushed with warmth, then felt a pang of nostalgia for the moments that once felt infinite. The clink of cups and murmurs of conversations swirled around her, but she was tethered to her spot, to her life, but an observer of the lives of others unfolding around her.

It was a bright, frosty morning. The pavement glistened like a diamond in the early morning sunshine, each fleck of ice catching the light and refracting beams of color. A crispy chill hung in the air, enough to make Lena's breath form delicate white puffs like ethereal ghosts.

The trees, covered with a delicate layer of frost, stood tall along the streets. The cold breeze swept through, causing the branches to creak softly. The air was sharp, its intensity only paused by the distant sound of a bird humming a sweet melody, like a soft lullaby from the heaven's.

Lena's heart thumped in her chest, a beat echoing the wild flutter of fear she felt. She looked around warily. The morning light had started to rise, and the sun was starting to come into view.

The crunch of her boots against the frozen ground had become almost a thundering noise, chasing away the bite of the atmosphere. She scanned the surroundings, her hazel eyes searching for any sign of movement in the glistening white landscape. The world around her was beautiful yet terrifying, a mix of nature's stunning snowflakes and her growing anxiety.

The sun finally broke loose, flooding the morning with a golden glow. Lena covered her eyes with her glove, shielding the light and letting the crisp wind attack her. At that moment, she felt a surge of exhilaration that fought against her fear. The icy breath of the morning mingled with the warmth of the sun, wrapping around her like an embrace. She took a deep breath, inhaling the clean scent of winter, and stepped into the shimmering landscape.

Only two days had passed since Mila had come to her new home in Malsem. The sun was bright, casting warm rays through the windows or Stoalt Middle School. Mila looked around the bustling hallway, her eyes wide with wonder. She looked around and gasped, unable to contain her excitement.

“Oooooooh! Look! Look at that lady!” Mila exclaimed, pointing at a young teacher with wavy brown hair that danced around her shoulders as she walked. “Look at her hair! Isn't it so pretty? When I go up, I want pretty hair. Like that!”

The teacher glanced in her direction but shrugged, a trace of indifference crossing her face as she turned away, back to her class.

Instead, Mila came walking towards her, her heart pounding with courage as she approached the teacher, her small hands fidgeting nervously.

“Hi, Miss.” Mila talked slowly, choosing her words carefully, as if each and every one mattered in this foreign place. “I'm new. From… Ilythir?”

The teacher paused, momentarily surprised, her eyes widening as she processed Mila's words .“Oh! You must be Mila,” she exclaimed, the edges of her lips curling into a gentle smile. “Well, welcome, Mila, to Stoalt Middle School! We specialize in… gifted kids. Much like yourself, hmm?”

Mila's cheeks flushed a light pink. She shook her head, her dark hair bobbing softly. “Oh.. No. I'm not… I don't know,” she murmured, her voice wavering. That word, “gifted,” felt overwhelming.

The silence hung in the air. The teacher knelt down to Mila's eye level. “You might not see it yet, but all of us here at Stoalt see potential in every student! It's okay if you don't know right away. You're here to explore who you are.”

Mila took a deep breath, feeling a flicker of hope as she smiled back, ready to discover the possibilities awaiting her at Stoalt Middle School.

part 3┊344/300 words

The room buzzed, shadows darting like frantic fireflies, the clock ticking louder as if mocking her. Papers piled high, notebooks left open, pens rolling off tables, the weight of expectation pressing against her chest. Emily stared at the screen. The cursor blinked, taunted, urged her to type. But the words tangled in her mind, a chaotic mess of thoughts, colliding, crashing, disappearing before she could grasp them.

Outside, cars honked, voices echoed, laughter filled the air. The world kept moving, demanding more, while she felt stuck, every task a boulder, every decision a mountain. Anxiety knotted her stomach.

She pushed back from the desk, a wave of frustration crashing in. How could everything be so heavy, so jailing, when all she ever wanted to do was be free? To be alone and isolated from the commitments that tied her down? She ran a hand through her hair, pacing, heart racing, ideas swirling. She sank to the floor. Eyes closed, she took a breath, a deep, shaky breath.

But the moment was fleeting. The chaos crept back, relentless. She held her head in her hands, voices seeming to seep into it, each a reminder, each a chain.

Reality pressed in, the list of responsibilities, commitments, everything she wanted to be free of. Each felt like a chain, pulling her deeper, deeper into uncertainty. She closed her eyes again, wishing to escape, to silence the urgency, to find a moment of peace in a frenzy, a key in the jail, a bird flying free in the sky.

She pressed her palms against the cool floor, grounding herself as if the coolness could take away the anxiety, as if the ground could take away her pain. She whispered to herself, “Just hold on.” She thought of stepping away, of closing the door, of finding a little corner of stillness in the frenzy.

But the thought evaporated quickly, swallowed by reality. The chaos surged back, louder than before, and her heart raced. In all of that, she felt like a little bird, chained and cold against the floor.

The evening air hung heavy with the scent of jasmine as Ayla and her companions gathered around the crackling campfire. They had just begun retelling tales of their journey. The warmth of the fire flickered across their faces, lighting them up with joy and laughter.

Ayla leaned back, her heart swelling with gratitude for the bond they had formed. Just as she was about to share a tale from her travels, Zane, the quiet one in the group, suddenly spoke.

“I have something to tell you all,” he said, his gaze shifting from one startled face to another. The fire crackled. “You know that map we've been following? The one leading us to the enchanted shrine?”

They all nodded, unsure of where this was heading.

“Well, it's fake. I made it up.”

Ayla's heart sank, and confusion spread through the group. “What do you mean you made it up?” Kael blurted.

Zane continued, his voice getting louder. “I created the whole quest. I thought it would be fun at first, a way to escape our basic lives. But now I see. I see. We've wasted weeks chasing nothing! Treasure that doesn't even exist!”

The silence was deafening. “You're joking,” she said, half-laughing.

“No, Ayla. This was all an elaborate game to me. I thought it might lead to something real, but it hasn't.”

Shock morphed into anger. Kale cried, “You put us all in danger! You were supposed to be our guide!”

Zane's expression darkened. “I know. I'm sorry. But now that we're here, doesn't it feel like we've found something more than treasure? We've found each other.” He suddenly turned towards Ayla and locked eyes with her. “Ayla. I'm sorry. I… I didn't think-”

“You know what you thought,” Ayla snapped. “You thought you could just guide us, earn our trust, then break it, just like that. Well I don't stand for it. I trusted you, Zane.”

“I know. I'm sorry, Ayla. I beg you for forgiveness. There's nothing I want more than…”

“Me? I know. I… I just can't.” Ayla turned her head.

The weight of Ayla's words hung in the air, and she could feel the disappointment. As the fire crackled, casting flickering shadows on their faces, Ayla took a deep breath, her heart heavy with a mixture of betrayal and sorrow. She couldn't shake the trust that had been shattered, nor could she shake the sight of the pain in Zane's eyes as he pleaded for forgiveness.

“Maybe one day,” she said quietly, looking away, “I can forgive you. But right now, I need time.” The group fell silent, each person lost in their own thoughts, the only sound the soft whispering of the wind as it carried their shared pain into the night.

Dear Ember,

Hi! I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Cat, and I’m writing to you from the SWCity headquarters. I have a proposition for you.

You see, all of us spiderheroes are on a quest of sorts. I’m sure you might know this already, but we are looking to repair the collider. It’s kind of… broken. And that’s how you got here. To our dimension. After a failed experiment from Dr. Skyler, the collider, well, it broke. It sent all of us spiderheroes from our respective realms into this one. It also sent you and a few other villains. The villains have the collider pieces that we need to return to our realms.

That kind of put us… out of wack. We’re much weaker than we are in our homes, and I’m not saying that you’re weak or anything, but we’re not the strongest. That’s why we need you. Your dragon strength could be the key to our success!

I can tell you have a good heart. I would bet all of my mangoes that if you saw a cat stuck in a tree, you would save it. Unless you eat cats. WAIT. NO. DON’T EAT ME, EMBER! I’M SORRY! PLEASE DON’T HURT ME!

Apologies… I got a little scared there. Don’t eat cats, please. Or Cat.

We are willing to offer you… Say, ten mangoes. And perhaps Mouse’s bread. Yes. That could be arranged. What do you say? Will you help us? Please?

-Cat (the giver of your precious mangoes, please don’t eat me, I’m too young to be eaten)

“ Do you have a favourite trope? Well, in this weekly, we’ll be exploring the vastness of writing cliches and themes that are common throughout many popular stories. Get started by going over to https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/695082/?page=3#post-8454119

⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆ ୨୧ ⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆

part 1┊535/250 words

forbidden romance (96/50)
A forbidden romance is an overdone yet decent trope. It automatically builds conflict, such as with John B. and Sarah in Outer Banks (though that was more like cheating, but still Kooks and Pogues don’t mix). It also forces the characters to fight for their relationship, because if they really want to be with each other, they have to deny the norms. This can also be problematic if authors feel the need to use this as the main plot, or feel like if there isn’t enough chemistry building between the characters, this can make readers angry.

enemies to lovers (145/50)
An enemies to lovers trope is one of my favorites. It ties directly to the plot, so it’s not seen as more of a side plot, because what happens to the world can directly affect the character’s relationships. The negative to this trope is that you can obviously see that the characters are in love from the beginning. Some of the reasons for the characters to dislike each other are stupid. An example of this is the romance of Kai and Paedyn in Powerless. They obviously like each other, and there’s no reason why they weren’t together from the first page, aside from the fact that they were enemies in the Trials. This didn’t even play a key role, even though they were in the Trials together, they ended up teaming up, so there was really no reason that they weren’t together, with obvious chemistry.

chosen one (85/50)
The chosen one is a very overdone trope. It gives an automatic reason why one character in particular was chosen to tell the story, but it leads you thinking, why this character? Like, okay, Harry Potter is the chosen one, but at times, it can feel formulaic and almost boring. It can also be annoying if the character is perceived as better than everybody else, in legacy, looks, intelligence, etc. After all, the first rule of writing is for your main character to have flaws.

fake relationship (82/50)
The fake relationship trope is definitely the most overdone out of all of these tropes. Though the character’s attempts to keep up the act can be funny, most of these are way overused. This leads to every fake relationship story being cliche and very predictable. We’ve all heard the trope that there’s only one bed or that they’re just doing it to make their crazy ex jealous. Don’t get me wrong, this trope can turn out beautifully, but it’s way too overused.

orphan/neglected hero (127/50)
Ah yes, orphaned heroes! They don’t need an excuse to go on a wild adventure for days at a time. Or even neglected heroes, who’s parents don’t care enough to ask why they are gone for days, where they stay at night. This can justify how a character is independent enough to be able to take care of themselves in their teenage years, but it can be somewhat unrealistic. This could be considered lazy or cliche writing, like the author doesn’t have the time to create ties to family members and explain their long absences. Also, isn’t it a bit unrealistic to have a literal child living alone?? In the state of most fictional worlds, the child would be taken to an adoption center, would they not???

part 2┊575/400 words

(okay, hear me out. it was supposed to be cute little forbidden love and when I was almost done, I was like wait, he’s kind of a jerk, so it turned out a bit abrupt and now the twist is that boys can be jerks and boys who are acting kind of abusive are bad bad bad boyfriends)

“Well, look who it is,” James said, leaning against the dirty brick wall of the old cafe. The faded sign creaked softly in the sharp winter breeze. Ella froze mid-step, her heart racing at the sound of his deep voice.

”I didn't expect to see you here,“ she replied, trying to steady her voice despite the rush of emotions running through her. It had been months since they last saw each other.

James's dark hair fell loosely over his forehead, and although he was dressed casually in a worn jacket and jeans, there was an intensity about him that pulled her in like gravity. His very presence stirred a restless longing within her, which made her chest flutter and left her feeling breathless. Ella stepped closer, her heart skipping a beat as their eyes met.

Mistake.

Looking into those deep blue eyes–soft like the stunning sky, yet intense, like drowning in the ocean–was a dangerous game. They both knew the risks, the rules that shaped their lives, the expectations and responsibilities placed upon them. Ella, the daughter of a politician, was supposed to marry someone of her class, someone who matched her upbringing, someone her parents wanted her to marry. James hailed from a different world–a world of desperate survival, a single mother struggling to make ends meet, who would do anything for a shilling. Their love was forbidden, a rule formed by countless generations. Yet here they were.

”How have you been?“ James asked, his voice low and teasing. ”Still running around with your perfect crowd?“

Ella felt warmth creeping up her cheeks. ”I've been well. I try, but it's getting harder,“ she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

They knew they were treading dangerous waters, yet James smiled. ”You know, I never stopped wanting you. Wanting this.“

At that moment, Ella's resolve crumbled. The rush of desire surged between them. She knew it was a mistake, but the danger only increased the thrill.

”James,“ she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. ”We can't.“

”What if we don't care? What if we just… let it happen?“

Ella felt her breath catch, and her heart race. Could they truly break the chains binding them to their own lives?

”What if we could change everything?“ he urged, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder as if to say, is this okay?

”If we get caught…“ Ella started. ”My father-“

”No. Your life is yours to live. Don't let them decide who you should love.“

”No, James. I don't want to hurt you. Or myself. I'm sick and tired of always listening to what people tell me to do. My father, my mother, my teachers, even you. Do you think you can win me over like this? I'm sorry, but no.“

James's expression darkened for a moment, but he quickly masked it with a charming smile, though Ella could see the hurt hidden beneath. ”I'd never want to put you in that position,“ he said softly. ”But this feels real, doesn't it? What we have is worth fighting for.

Ella took a step back, shaking her head. “It's not that simple. I… I can't.”

A moment passed. “Okay,” James replied quietly. “Okay… I'll be here. If you ever need me.

With that, Ella turned and walked away, leaving James standing there. He watched her disappear into the distance, the ache of what could have been almost mocking him, reminding him that sometimes, love is about letting go.

part 3┊563/500 words

The palace shimmered with an otherworldly glow, adorned with emerald green decorations that matched the wealth and power of Ilya. A soft waltz wafted through the air and Kai danced with partner after partner, putting on his charming mask and watching ladies turn red in the face when they met eyes.

He only had eyes for one, though. From his place on the ballroom floor, he could only see a mop of silver hair flying around like a waterfall around her shoulders. Her silver dress certainly made a statement, perhaps not a good one to those around her, but he thought she looked stunning.

He glanced over again, watching her spin gracefully, laugher lighting up her face. His brother was laughing as well. At least they were having fun.

Kai had to admit, he felt a ping of jealousy form in his stomach, at the sight of Paedyn, his lovely Silver Savior, dancing with Kitt, his younger brother and the future king. It ignited a fury that he couldn't quite understand.

”Why do you stare at her like that?“ a voice drawled beside him. It was Lenny, a red faced, freckled Imperial. Paedyn's Imperial. ”You're not the only one here. You see how she looks at Kitt?“

Kai clenched his jaw, his emotions a tangled mess. ”I know,“ he replied, his voice strained. ”And it infuriates me.“

”You're not the only one who's noticed her. Isn't she just a vision?“

Kai's gaze remained fixed of Paedyn, though he was seriously considering turning and punching Lenny square in the jaw. A stupid Imperial with a rotten mouth that doesn't know when to shut up. ”She is, isn't she.“

With a determined sigh, Kai pushed away from the wall, moving through the room with a purpose. He approached Paedyn just as she and Kitt shared a laugh, the kind that echoed in the air.

”Paedyn!“ he called, full well knowing how rude it was to steal a girl in the middle of the dance. Kitt frowned.

Paedyn turned, and for a heartbeat, Kai caught a glimpse of longing in her eyes. But it vanished before he could decipher it, replaced with a polite smile.

”Kai. You look… good, yet exhausted.“

”Thank you…“ He hesitated, searching for the words. ”Can we talk?“

”Oh, well, we were just-“

”Please. It's important.“ There was a certain firmness in his tone that made Paedyn widen her eyes a little bit.

Paedyn nodded, glancing at Kitt as if seeking permission. With a raised eyebrow, Kitt stepped away, his expression a blend of amusement and confusion.

”What is it?“

”It's… about you,“ Kai said, taking a deep breath. ”I don't think you should limit yourself to something as simple, something as… ordinary.“

”What?“

”Not simple…“ He faltered, trying to find the right words to say. ”Do you know who you are, Pae? More than just a girl from the slums?“

”Kai? What are you talking about?“

”You have something else. Something special. Don't waste it on people like Lenny who don't care about you. Care like I care about you.“

”Kai-“ Paedyn started, but he cut her off, desperate.

”I see you. You have the potential to be so much more than you've settled for. Lenny may want you, but I can give you the world!“

”What if I don't want to change?“ she whispered. ”What if I just want you?“

part 4┊828/700 words

Woohoo! You've made it to the last part of this weekly! I hope you've had fun learning and writing about tropes, because now you’re going to write a story implementing three tropes. This story should be at least 700 words. Have fun, and good luck!

In the small town of Elderspring, shrouded in mystery, there were whispers of an ancient legacy. The townsfolk often spoke of the Old Willow Tree, at the edge of the forest. It was said that anyone who dared to sit beneath it would discover their true destiny. Little did they know, this fable held more truth than fiction.

Lily, a spirited sixteen-year-old, had heard these tales growing up. As the daughter of the town librarian, of course she was more curious about the dusty books lining the shelves than the folklore surrounding her. That is, until a stormy evening changed everything.

As raindrops pelted the windows and the wind howled outside, Lily stumbled upon an old, leather book in the library's forgotten section. On the cover was a golden tree, shining in the dim light. She dusted off the cover, and the pages blew open to reveal a small handwritten letter, dated over a hundred years ago. The letter spoke of a treasure connected to the Old Willow Tree and hinted at a chosen one who would restore peace to Elderspring.

Lily's heart jumped. Fueled by excitement, she decided to investigate the Old Willow Tree, eager to find the truth about her small village.

The following afternoon, Lily made her way to the tree. As she settled against the rough bark, she closed her eyes, praying for some sort of sign telling her how to continue. How to tell if she was really meant to do this. Suddenly, she felt a sharp wind, and when she opened her eyes, she was no longer alone.

Lily found herself face to face with a figure cloaked in shadowy, loose robes. It was a boy, perhaps a few years older than her, with messy brown hair and striking green eyes that seemed to glow in the hazy afternoon light. ”You've come,“ he said, his voice smooth and calm. ”I've been waiting for you.“

”Who are you?“ Lily stammered, wary.

”I'm Rowan,“ he replied, stepping out from the shadows. ‘You are the one I’ve been waiting for. The tree chose you.”

Lily swallowed, her heart pounding. “What do you mean? Chose me for what?”

Rowan gestured towards the Old Willow Tree. “You've been called to uncover the truth. You've heard the tales, haven't you?”

Lily nodded slowly. “But I'm just… me. I'm not special. I don't know anything about treasure, or destiny, or-”

“That's exactly why the Old Willow chose you. The treasure is not about gold or jewels. It picked you because it knew you would understand. For too long, Elderspring has been plagued. It chose you to bring back balance to our town, not divide us in silly fights over worthless jewels.”

Lily's curiosity sparked. “Shadows? What do you mean?”

“Well, the stories are true, obviously,” he said. “Many, many generations ago, the forest was guarded by powerful spirits who maintained harmony. But a darkness emerged, breaking that harmony. The Old Willow has always awaited the chosen one. Someone pure of heart who can restore the balance, someone who knows that the real treasure of our town is togetherness.

Lily felt a thrill course through her. ”So, what do I need to do?“

Rowansmiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling with a hint of mischief. ”First, you must gather the three sacred artifacts that will unlock the treasure's true power. Only someone brave enough to uncover them can restore harmony.

Lily nodded, determination flooding through her. “What are these artifacts?”

“The Crystal of Friendship, the Pendant of Truth, and the Map of Unity.”

“I can do this! I will prove that the Old Willow chose me for a reason.”

Fueled by determination, Lily embarked on her journey to find the three sacred artifacts. The journey took her deep into the vibrant forest, where she navigated through hidden groves and ancient ruins. She faced challenges that tested her courage and integrity, forging bond with those she met along the way, including an artist who held the Crystal of Fredship and an elder who gave her the Pendant of Truth.

Each and every artifact illuminated her path, revealing her strengths and the strengths of the deep connections that had been long forgotten among the town. With the final artifact, the Map of Unity, in hand, Lily returned to the Old Willow Tree. As she placed the artifacts at its roots, a brilliant light enveloped the Elderspring, and Rowan appeared in front of her.

“Lily! You've come back, and I see you've brought the artifacts!” Rowan grinned.

“Of course! And I think I finally understand!”

“You do, don't you? The Old WIllow Tree is never wrong. For the journey is more important than the destination, don't you think?”

“ Carrier - write 400 words about a team–maybe they’re fighting or maybe they’re working together to complete a mission! It’s up to you ;D ”

⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆ ୨୧ ⋆ ┈┈┈┈┈ ⋆

In the dimly lit command center of the Carrier, the team prepared for their next mission. Five skilled operatives, each bringing their own unique talent to the group, but their differing personalities often led to friction. Captain Mia Tores, their leader, had a knack for strategic and logical thinking, making sure every move was calculated. However, her authoritative manner sometimes clashed with the laid-back attitude of Jake, the team’s tech guy. Jake preferred improvisation and often believed that plans were meant to be flexible.

The team gathered around a holographic display, examining blueprints of a high-security facility that held sensitive information that they had to claim. “This is our entry point,” Mia pointed, her finger hovering over a section of the building. “We go in here, but we must time it perfectly to avoid detection.”

“Or we could create a distraction on the north side instead,” Jake interjected. “I could hack their security systems and loop the cameras. We could get in unnoticed.

”Your plans are too last-minute, Jake,“ Chloe, the team's sharpshooter, chimed in. ”We need a solid plan if we're going to pull this off. We can't rely on luck.“

Mia sensed the growing tension. ”Alright, how about this? We can use Jake's distraction as a backup. We'll go according to the plan, but if things go south, well. You know what to do. Everybody needs to be on the same page.

Nods of agreement were exchanged, but some tension lingered. They had to trust one another, especially when their lives were on the line. They had limited time before security protocols changed.

Thomas, the quiet combat specialist, tightened his gear while visibly getting ready. “We've got each other's backs.”

Once the mission commenced, they moved like a machine. Mia led with confidence, Jake stayed one step ahead with tech support, and Chloe covered them, ensuring they wouldn't be caught by surprise.

As they approached the facility, adrenaline coursed through the team. In the darkness, Jake set up his gear, fingers dancing over his laptop as he hacked into the security system. “Cameras are looping. You've got five minutes,” he whispered, urgency in his voice.

Chloe assessed the surroundings and took a deep breath. “Stay alert.” She moved ahead to cover the perimeter. Thomas felt the tension rise and his instincts kicked in, forming a fighting stance.

Every second felt like an eternity as they slipped through the door Mia had pointed out on the blueprint.

Inside, the corridors were eerily quiet, their footsteps muffled against the floor. Mia led the way, checking each corner, while Jake stayed back, monitoring the security feeds. “You're clear for now, but I see some guards approaching. Move fast,” he cautioned.

Chloe's focus narrowed on the two guards. “I'll take them out,” she whispered, and in moments, they dropped silently to the ground.

“Nice work, Chloe,” Thomas praised.

The tension mounted as they reached the target room. Mia took a deep breath and gestured for Jake to proceed, he plugged in his computer. “This could take a minute,” he warned, a thick layer of sweat trickling down his forehead.

Suddenly, an alarm blared, echoing through the long hallways. “Jake… WHAT DID YOU DO?” Mia snapped.

Everyone: Words can't express the amount of gratitude I have to each and every one of you–no matter if you got a note above (and apologies if we've talked and I haven't written you a note, because I have a bad memory and I hope you know I appreciate all of you), and this camp really wouldn’t be what it is today without you. Thank you all so much for the support, chaos, and kindness you all have given. I seriously cannot stress enough how much I love this camp, and how it's changed my life. SWC is such an amazing community and I feel so grateful to be a part of it! So thank you, everyone, for yet another unforgettable session! I love you all so much <3

I unfortunately won't be applying this next session, because I got in to a three week sleepaway camp in July that will bring down my activity. I will still be camping and I really cannot wait to see the cabin lineup, I'm sure it will be incredible, as always <3
