'You have reached the limit of students you can add to a class.'
My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Chrome 131.0.0.0, No Flash version detected
I have been teaching w Scratch for years and when I went to add a new student to my classroom today I got a message that ‘You have reached the limit of students you can add to a class.’ Which is strange, as I only have 53 students in the class , I have other classrooms with over 100 students ( I teach many sections and sometimes just group whole grades together, since it's good to let them see each other work).
Did the classroom size suddenly change?

Possibly, there was an incident a few months ago where a teacher's account got hacked and they used a bot to create hundreds of thousands of student accounts. It could be because of that. That's my best guess.

On December 7th 2024, a person made a teacher account and other accounts and added them to a “class”, they were going to try to make people on scratch scared, the raid was a false alarm, maybe thats why it changed. You could make another teacher account and make another class and add more to it. Maybe I could address this issue. Can u send me the link?

I tried creating a second class and having students add to that and it gave them the same error message. I'm wondering if there's some glitch on my TEACHER account…

The new limit to students in a classroom is 50. I understand that any given classroom is usually less than 50. However, I tend to make one classroom for every grade. I teach the same students for several years in a row and that way they can keep the same login for the whole time I am teaching them. I just change the classroom name from grade 4 to grade 5 for instance. This change is too bad and I wonder if a limit of 100 students would solve the same problem, but allow teachers like me to continue what we've been doing for years.
Also, unless I missed it, there wasn't any communication of this change and really disrupted my classroom when I got a new student and could just quickly add them.

The educator system was abused by someone who hacked a teacher account with a weak password, and created hundreds of thousands of accounts using teacher accounts. This effectively lagged scratch out and caused it to crash.

I suggest creating new classes for each grade instead. You can also suggest to increase the limit here.
We would love to help you, but we aren't teachers, just ordinary Scratchers, so we can't.

My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Chrome 131.0.0.0, No Flash version detectedmaybe try to make it a different grade? then just put on the classroom name that its actually a different grade. maybe the 1s with 100+ were made before scratch changed it?

I have a class with 66 students that I have had since September 2024. Now I have a student trying to get in and he keeps getting an error message.
There was an error while processing your registration too many students.
He can no longer get into my class(studios). We as teachers cannot delete students who are no longer in the class so what are our options? If I could delete the accounts that are not being used because they are no longer in my class that would help manage my classroom for 2nd semester.

If your curious why the limit is different, it has been because student accounts can be easily hacked and used to spam. You can simply mark the class as “ended” and make a new version. Don't delete the accounts since they could be used, and some student accounts are used by students for normal accounts. If you could put a screenshot in a project and post it here I could see the message. Also, maybe use Contact Us and keep my advice in mind, as well as others.

Now I have a student trying to get in and he keeps getting an error message.Yeah, it's probably better to make a whole other class- even before the limits were lowered to 40 students per class (old classes were not forced to remove students), the limit was 250 students per class.

Alternatively, you could use something like a studio as a class, and invite students as curators.

Is the new limit 50 or 40? I am seeing 2 different messages above. I have all of my studios created for the entire semester. That is how students share their work with myself and their classmates for critique so I cannot just retire the old class. Has there been any form of communication to teachers that this change had happened? I haven't seen anything yet.

I mean add “ended” to the class titlethat's what i'm talking about. you obviously don't have a teacher account, so stop trying to correct those who do, when you don't.

I think the limit just went back up.That it did. It has been increased to 150 by popular teacher demand. This bug has been resolved and the thread can likely be closed.
