Be Safe....
I wanted to ask some clarification of this topic. As of 2024, this is what the ‘be safe’ section of the Community Guidelines says:
'Be safe: keep personal and contact information private.
For safety reasons, don't give out any information that could be used for private communication, in person or online.
This includes sharing real last names, phone numbers, addresses, hometowns, school names, email addresses, usernames or links to social media sites, video chatting applications, or websites with private chat functionality.'
I've seen some people openly sharing the city or state that they live in. Is that fine to share, since the community guidelines say not to? I know it isn't, but how come they haven't been caught for years. It's the same issue with sharing private chat functionalities; sometimes it gets taken down, and sometimes the comments (or projects) don't.
By the way, many scratchers do share links and usernames to social media websites, but they never get took down.

You're allowed to share the state you live in but you're not allowed to share the city or town you live in. If you see anyone sharing the name of the city/town they live in, please report it. Thanks!

I agree, but here are things to consider:
1. Not all websites allow people to share their country
Not all websites can share countries. They may be stolen by attackers.
2. Don't share your city
Most countries are hard to find where you are unless you live in a very small country.
3. Even such a private identity might seem harmless to you can be otherwise stolen
Now be mindful with this one. Even a personal info shared online might seem harmless to you, it can still be stolen
But actually I find Scratch did.

Sharing such information as to where you exactly live is not allowed. I would avoid saying the exact city you're in.
As for your other question, it is important that Scratchers are honoring the Community Guidelines because there are in fact younger Scratchers on here that may not be allowed to access such mediums - thus sharing names to other websites are prohibited. Just because people do it and they don't get caught doesn't make it right.

Well…on all user pages the country one lives in is displayed (and is part of the account setup process), unless of course they choose not to actually provide their real country and instead decide their location is Antarctica

I think a simple “I'm from Texas” or “I'm from Italy” is innocent enough, but should not be more than that.

Your country is not really private information, as you have to put it and it shows on your profile anyway. And it's hard to find the location of so many people, unless maybe you live in a really small country.Sharing such information is not allowed. I would avoid saying the exact city you're in.Yea! Please report any users that say their city or town, as that is too specific.

2. Keep your personal information in secret except your familyHi! This statement doesn't make a lot of sense, you're literally saying that if you share the country you live in, people will find out what country you live in.
Sharing your country can give clues to what country you live

Ok but now I changed my mind. If a country is selected it will be displayed. I obviously found that info on google. I search google most often.2. However, your city or town should not be shared with your country. Now that info can be stolen. Most countries are hard for people to find your address unless you live in a very small country

(#3)i thought sharing your country gave clues to how many cookies I ate at 2:37 am
2. Keep your personal information in secret except your family

Jokes aside, what? If you share your country, you… share your country. Also, there's millions of people in a country, how would that help with anything?
(#3)yeah, publicly available info can be “stolen” by anyone who can access publicly available information shared online, this also doesn't make sense
3. Even such a personal identity might seem harmless to you can be otherwise stolen

I would advise you to not make posts with AI, but AI wouldn't say things like this either. It was probably some troll post online, or some extreme hallucination by the AI overview in google.

Except for rare countries where one city is considerably more populous than others…
Eg:- If someone says they are from Mongolia, they are most probably also from Ulaan Bataar, as more than 90% of Mongolia lives there…

Except for rare countries where one city is considerably more populous than others…The extreme case would be if someone is living in a small city-state- such as Vatican City (which is listed as an option for your location).

I'm in Singapore, but you know that you can't even find where I am there because addresses are private info

Honoring the Community Guidelines is the most important thing, but it is even better to set a great example for others
