Usually reporting doesn't do much. There was a time where people got temporarily banned for reporting.
It does do things. If they got banned for reporting they probably mass reported innocent projects knowingly
No, I was there, they reported very innapropriate comments and nothing innocent and were banned for it.
I got blocked for that reason too. That’s the exact reason I lost my main account.
Make an appeal before ban evading. This topic is getting completely unrelated and is also rejected, so I'm gonna leave it here
A lot of the time it takes months for the scratch team to respond to appeals. I contacted the scratch team four months about an incredibly important issue that was affecting many mentally, and got no response.
Yeah, Scratch is a bit useless when it comes to that.

Yeah… This has happened to some close friends of mine as well. A while back, and I'm not sure if ye all know about this, but in the Scratch Zelda community there was a huge hacking. I won't go into the details, but long story short, innocent people got banned, etc, and when many people reached out to ST, to: 1. Ask for them to maybe improve Scratch's security system. And: 2. To get their accounts back. They never got back their answer. I feel like they need to improve.

(Please, I swear to the heavens snip your posts)
Scratch's moderation is run by a team of bots, if it was human run, then they would take every comment and read through it before posting, but a better way to resolve this is that any comment the bot flags, the human reads the context of it.
EDIT: There's a good example of this, the name Penn (Pronounced Pen)

Scratch team, if you are here, I'd love to ask why on earth this was rejected. Like, I know it “could leave people out”, but this is literally a website for children. Literal 10 year olds are being harassed constantly here and honestly it's disgusting how we cannot do anything about it. As Maci said Roblox, a website notorious for not being good with children's safety has a block button. Surely if Roblox can do that we can as well? As I previously mentioned my 8 year old sister, someone who is perfectly in the target age group for this website cannot talk here. And there is a reason for that. Terrifying people. Please, please fix this. Children should not be afraid to use a children's website.
Edit: Sorry, I should phrase that more politely. But you get the message.

Yeah, honestly, when I first joined Scratch on this account, (I had a previous account many, MANY, years ago. I left because of the lack of security on Scratch) I expected Scratch to have improved their security and I expected that they had added a rather useful thing called, a block button! When I noticed that it still hadn't been added I was shocked, as you said Quill, even ROBLOX; a site that is also aimed towards children (and, like many websites, is filled with a bunch of creeps), also has a block button! I find it absurd that they refuse to add one, so many individuals could benefit, myself included, from this feature. I am extremely disappointed that it hasn't been added, and I do hope it will be added in the near future, as unlikely that may be.

I didn't even know that you could do this!

I completely agree!! Blocking is a really nice solution honestly, just like a way to simply hide comments written by blocked users. Maybe you could have a placard as well if there’s an issue with simply removing the comment for the person who blocked them?

What if no one knows they are blocked? Then no one will feel hurt if that's the concern. I very much doubt that if we do it like that anyone will be cyberbullied with it.

And quite honestly, lately I have been considering leaving Scratch due to the amount of harassment, rude comments, and overall just terrible behaviour that I've seen. It is appalling.

Exactly! It's as simple as that!

Exactly! Honestly, if gwdfi was to be deleted, I would quit.

Blocking is a good and healthy way to resolve disputes, especially where reporting isn't needed or wanted. It keeps future arguments from popping up, and people wouldn't get banned for conflicts rather than being flat-out problematic.

Indeed, the only reason I am still on Scratch, is because of GWDFI. I feel like i can share my thoughts there, as a person who constantly get's shushed and ignored, it is pleasant to have a couple people who actually care.

i agree. there are people that get constantly harassed on a KIDS website, so i believe it would prove beneficial to add a block button. and yes, there is a report button, but that doesn't always work. if roblox – ROBLOX – has a block button, we need one too.

A block feature would be incredibly helpful, for all the reasons the other users on this thread have stated as well as more. As stated earlier, so much needless drama and bullying could be prevented. I know many users who have been cyberbullied on Scratch, and a blocking feature would absolutely help with this problem. Please take this into consideration. The community guidelines talk all about respect and kindness - But let’s face it, there’s more disrespect and harassment on this platform these days.

I agree with most of these stuff, the scratch team isn't big enough for the amount of reports they get, and they should add a block feature in case someone is being harassed.

A block feature would offer a way for the affected user to handle the situation themselves, and since bots don’t have much of an idea what context is and the fact there’s only 45-ish members in st, I feel like it would put away a massive amount of frustration on both the user and scratch team as a whole

Honestly, I'm shocked that so many sites, especially ones for children, have blocking systems while Scratch does not. The excuse of “it'll cause drama!” isn't a good one because blocking problematic people prevents drama in the first place. And since calling someone out when they believe you blocked them would be a form of naming-and-shaming and potentially harassment, so that most definitely would be something that someone could be muted, reported and/or banned for.

There are certainly ways to let people block people they don't feel comfortable interacting while preventing drama and issues that apparently could rise with it. Blocking bad people keeps people safe and comfortable. Scratch Team also doesn't always handle reports and bans very well, so blocking someone instead of having to go to ST who may or may not ban them and try and fix the issue themselves (from experience, likely not) would be a lot easier. People might also leave Scratch a bit less if they can block people who cause drama, etcetera and just not have to deal with it.

TL;DR: There are more pros than cons to adding a block feature, it can be implemented in a way that prevents possible drama, sometimes reporting isn't enough, it would be easier to ignore and calm down drama by blocking people who cause it.

Sorry, but scratch team has already discussed this idea and decided to reject it. See 8.6 of The official list of rejected suggestions.

Also see that it says they will not reconsider rejections.
