Scratch 4.0 When?
They don't plan on making 4.0 soon. The 6 year gaps have been coincidences

Scratch 4.0 When?
The reason we went from Scratch 2.0 to 3.0 was because Flash runtimes were dying, and Scratch 2.0 used Flash. So 3.0 uses html5 & Javascript.
Until either html5 or javascript decide to discontinue operations, there won't be a 4.0 to my knowledge.

Scratch 4.0 When?
Ok, so if that were to happen what do you think would be added in 4.0?

It’s just that the creation of 3.0 wasn’t a consequence of Flash’s death, rather a result of JavaScript and other web technologies

… becoming advanced enough that it was feasible to create a version of Scratch that could run on them.but iirc it was rushed before it’s initial release date because of flash’s death rightThat is correct.

“JavaScript and other web tech” have existed since the late 1990s. It's just that until relatively recently they were so slow and nonfunctional (and non-standard) that they weren't very useful for something like Scratch's editor.

Scratch 4.0 When?
Let's do an educated guess.
Scratch 3.0 was released in January 2019. Given that it's taken about 69 months since its release to get to the point of it being 75% finished, we can expect it to take about 18 more months for the website to be fully completed. That would mean that we can expect 3.0 to be fully finished by early 2026.
Scratch 1.4 was released in July 2009.
Scratch 2.0 was released in May 2013, aproximately 46 months after 1.4.
Scratch 3.0 was released in January 2019, aproximately 68 months after 2.0.
Doing the math, the average time between releases is about 57 months, meaning that if Scratch 3.0 is fully finished by January 2026, we can expect 4.0 to be in development by 2030 (2026 + 4 years).

Scratch 4.0 When?
This is incorrect. There are currently no plans for Scratch 4.0, and new versions are not released on a fixed schedule. They released Scratch 3.0 because they wanted to use HTML5/JS (and then the sunsetting of Flash resulted in them fast-tracking it), not because any specific amount of time had elapsed since the release of Scratch 2.0. Until they have a specific reason that justifies the massive development effort of rewriting the entire Scratch editor from the ground up, there isn't going to be a Scratch 4.0.Let's do an educated guess.
