Hello. I am learning Toki Pona and I wanted to see if anybody knew Toki Pona that are active on Scratch.
I also made a Toki Pona Studio, so I would accept anybody who speaks Toki Pona who wants to be curator.

toki! I've been looking for an active Toki Pona thread to show up all week!! I can't speak it very well since I don't have any friends who speak toki pona to practice with but I've been wanting to learn for like 2 years at this point, and was even thinking of making some educational games to help me remember the vocabulary. I'm so glad there are other people interested in toki pona on Scratch. You are not alone!

I have been learning toki pona for about two days, and I only know some of the vocabulary and grammar. Also, if you are interested premade Toki Pona vocabulary games, try Optimem. It uses flash cards for the words, and if you get the meaning wrong, it think it waits to show the next card. But, what might be the best way to get the words in your brain is to find a good way of learning the vocabulary and write them down on a piece of paper.

But this all the learning ideas is theoretical. I have been learning Toki Pona for two days now. The learning resources I use are Toki Pona Lessons by jan Misali and toki pona dictionary

Oh goodness, it's terrible. I've been trying to read your studio description over and over using the list of words I compiled a while ago to translate (and actually remember) what the sentence means. Difficult but I think actually reading sentences in toki pona is helping me remember the grammar and words better than just looking at flashcards has. Plus, some of what I've learned in the past is coming back to me in the process.
You can invite me as a curator if you want and I'll try my best to make or find projects to add to the studio!

Oh, and what is your toki pona name? I'm thinking of calling myself jan Kotatipu here, derived from Roadtrip, although I've used “monsuta” for myself instead of jan before just because I like werewolves a lot.

I made the studio before I learned Toki Pona. (I used a AI translator). And honestly, I don't have a Toki Pona name for my Scratch username yet. The name I use outside of Scratch is its self in Toki Pona. I won't say it because if I become famous, I don't want anybody to know my real name. I am trying to convert Minty to toki pona, so that would be my name. Also, that is good that some of the stuff you knew in the past is coming back to you.

Since I am starting from Scratch, I will also order the Toki Pona dictionary and the Wizard Of Oz Toki Pona Edition when I want to learn Sitelen Pona. I just have to have to get more money because I am also ordering parts for my PC. I was also able to write some of the rules of Toki Pona, but I need to memorize them. The only way I as able to memorize was that adjectives come after the words they are describing. I also know some of the basic vocabulary. I am hoping that printing out my own makeshift toki pona dictionary will help. Just so you know, there is a D*****d server for Toki Pona too, but would not recommend since I think they talk kind of fast in there.

An AI translator for Toki Pona is neat! I'm not sure if you could answer a question I have the way I was expecting then if you're using a translator: how are you using the word “palisa”? My definition says it means stick / rod / branch so I was wondering what you were intending to communicate with “toki pona palisa”? My thought was that it represented “writing” somehow since a pencil could be a palisa but I wanted to hear your thoughts.

Also, would we be able to use this thread or the toki pona palisa studio comments to practice writing out our Toki Pona? I've heard of there being an official place to chat in but I think I would be too nervous to talk… the forums feel more slow-paced and it's a lot easier to think about what I want to say as a result.

I think palisa was supposed to mean studio, since according to the translator, “toki pona palisa” is what “Toki Pona Studio” means. Also, you could talk in Toki Pona on Scratch as long if you use the Latin Script or any other script that is supported in Unicode, because Sitelen Pona is yet to be added to Unicode. I thin the forums would work the best for both of us because I do not get studio messages, and since it is more slow paced for the both of us, let's try that. Ah, sorry, I'm no expert but I believe Other Languages is for non-constructed languages as stated in this Sticky from 2013: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/10623/

Hmm, that's peculiar. There's a few words I think would fit better:
kulupu pi toki pona: kulupu means things like community, tribe, group. “pi” is equivalent to “of,” you may not need it but it makes sense to me
tomo pi toki pona: tomo means things like space, building, room
lipu pi toki pona: lipu means things like paper or other flat objects, but is often used to represent catalogues of information such as books or websites

“Studio” could be a combination of words based on the purpose of the Studio. (kulupu / tomo / lipu) toki pi toki pona could mean a place to communicate in Toki Pona, while (kulupu / tomo / lipu) musi pi toki pona can mean a place to showcase projects mentioning Toki Pona, particularly artist or creative pieces. (kulupu / tomo / lipu) sona pi toki pona could represent a catalogue of mainly informative Toki Pona projects.

None of it is condescending, just so you know. I am open knew ideas if they fit better. I will just use toki pi toki pona for the name instead and I will give you credit. Also, how do I make a signature line properly?

The lack of other forum members and my novice level in Toki Pona makes it a bit hard to think of discussion topics so I'm sorry for the late reply (although if you want to talk about non-Toki Pona, it's better to do that on one of our profiles to keep on topic, I think? iirc the TIMaC rules disallow “general chatrooms” and “off-topic discussion”)

Do you have anything you're particularly struggling with? The grammar is a bit tricky of course, but writing it out is a bit odd since I'm not sure how to properly seperate a noun-adjective from an unrelated adjective (I was writing out something like “li sona e toki sin li musi a!”, trying to say “learning new languages is fun!”, but I'm not sure if the “li musi” is actually correct or not so not to say “learning fun new languages!” lol)
I'm also weirdly struggling with remembering the forbidden syllables: wo(n), wu(n), ti(n), and ji(n). I even made the mistake earlier here as “jan Kotatipu” would not grammatically work so I'll probably go as “jan Kotatapu” instead…

Well, I do have trouble with remembering the vocabulary. I also have trouble with grammar too, specifically remembering when to use e and li. Sometimes, I forget to use li or e in the sentence totally Also, I printed out my dictionary yesterday too. It is only sixteen pages long, so it is not as detailed has the official Toki Pona dictionary. I will leave the source of the dictionary just in case you want it. You can use my profile.
