what even qualifies as a “mascot” of scratch? i’m pretty sure the scratch cat is the one and only poster child, while the other five are relatives or friends to him

Watch the Crazed Cat series of stories/animations - back when it began there were no Scratch mascots besides Scratch Cat and Gobo, so a starfish is used as Scratch Cat's friend there.

A mascot is one of the 6 (7 in the future) main characters of Scratch.

The starfish is definitely not a good choice for a Scratch mascot - nor is any other existing library sprite (besides the ones that are already the mascots.)

The reason?

Most sprites (that is, besides the mascots) are from a public domain or CC-BY source not affiliated with Scratch Team - meanwhile all of the mascots came from Scratch Team and are both copyrighted and trademarked (after all, no one wants to confuse something else for Scratch) with permission to use them being granted for Scratch projects (unless you put them on a different site.) It's impossible to make Creative Commons licenses more restrictive, hence the starfish can never be a mascot of Scratch.

I'm not so sure about that. Do you even know Starfish Choir?

What is a starfish choir? I think regardless of anything a user on Scratch made, it doesn't make it any less illegal to copyright a cc-by-sa 2.0 (iirc) file

Because the Scratch Cat loves it when his friends become mascots!

All of Scratch Cat’s friends are measurements though. Also, the starfish may be made by someone else, in which case they can not use it as a mascot.

No support. This would bring nothing other then silly little mascot to scratch not anything useful. think up a more useful suggestion in the future.
