A warning for New Scratcher/ New to Scratch accounts when creating posts on old topics
Yes, it's a forum suggestion, and I'm targetting specifically Help with Scripts topics.
Edit: While it is true that the focus is on HwS forum, this suggestion can easily be expanded to cover the whole Scratch forums. HwS is my example here because I'm most familiar with it.
For my rather short time being active on forums (again, HwS specifically), I've seen many, many new Scratchers come to old topics and post something very unrelated, moving said topics to the first page while adding nothing to the discussion.
Edit: This is pretty much the definition of “necropost”. I should have made this clear enough.
It becomes annoying quickly because:
Therefore, I suggest adding a warning check if someone is trying to create a post for a topic whose last post was a long time ago (say, >3 months between the last post made and the uploading post). It will just be a yellow warning box (not a mute) above the typing box, so if people realy want to, they can still create new posts.
I imagine something like this:
@A-MARIO-PLAYER also made this beautiful mockup, too.

It becomes annoying quickly because:
- Most of their posts are basically spam, and reporting them every time sounds like pain for forum moderators.
- They likely won't use the “Follow discussion” button, so if someone offers help they wouldn't even get notified.
- New posts get notified to the people creating those old topics, clogging up their messages tab.
- (opinion) It's just annoying and rude, even more if the topic is already solved.

//You are replying to a very old topic! If you have a question unrelated to this topic, please create a topic here!(Imagine the create topic link at “here” please I'm too lazy to make proper mockups)
@A-MARIO-PLAYER also made this beautiful mockup, too.

Bumping is allowed, if it’s been 24 hrs since the last post and it’s not on the front page.
You don’t have to add anything constructive when bumping, and it’s not considered spam as long as the above conditions are met.

(I should've mentioned necroposting as a term but didn't think much about it sorry)

If topic in question is relevant (for example: a non-rejected non-dupe suggestion, an unanswered QaS, or HwS topic, a relevant BaG topic etc) then it’s fine. Unless you literally mean necroposts, then you should edit your post to say necropost and not bump.Bumping is allowed, if it’s been 24 hrs since the last post and it’s not on the front page.Bumping is allowed, but people new to forums shouldn't really bump random old topics from like 3 months ago, no?

why just HwS?
(#1)the problem with this point is that you don't know if they'll click the “follow discussion” button or not

why just HwS?Because it's the most noticeable there. HwS was my initial goal, but this suggested change can also be applied and work on the entire forum as a whole.
the problem with this point is that you don't know if they'll click the “follow discussion” button or notI said “likely”. I don't have numbers to back up my statement here (and I will be extremely grateful if somebody can help), but if someone is not checking the dates and their own post's content then I doubt they would notice the little blue button.
mockup mania! That looks very nice, thank you!

I think that this would be best not for New Scratchers specifically, but for anyone with <25 or so forum posts. There are plenty of people (myself included) who started using the forums when they had already achieved Scratcher status, but didn't necessarily know the definition of necroposting.

Is OP suggesting that the same pop-up should appear for Scratchers as well?
I also do agree with the above idea that bumping is still acceptable regardless of who does it.

here's a better quality image mockup:There are legitimate non-necroposting reasons for bumping an old topic, so it should still let you post.

I'm pretty sure this suggestion is a duplicate of this one. (that one applies to all accounts, not just new accounts)

(#13)To add on, a duplicate is when a topic/thread is the same as another one, this can make it hard to track discussion on suggestions. To make it easier to track discussion, this topic/thread will be closed so no further posts can be made.

This is a duplicate. Please continue the discussion there so that all the discussion stays in one place. Before making a new topic, kindly search for duplicates. That is completely different, this topic is about necroposting, your topic is about stickies. But I found another duplicate, and based on the activity, they should be merged.
