Featured projects getting bad
About 4 years ago, scratch featured projects were awesome, they had people really pur effort into them, but right now, almost all the featured projects are bad and don't deserve it. You could spent half a year making a 3d minecraft and get less likes than a chracter creator made in 10 min.
I think scratch team should choose better projects to be featured and we should get a dislike button

Some featured projects are good.
We cannot say the same for trending.

About 4 years ago, scratch featured projects were awesomeRemindMe! 4 years
I bet in 4 years someone will say this exact same thing, that featured projects in 2024 were awesome. I'm pretty sure 4 years ago people were saying that featured projects were way better 4 years prior.
The fun parts about being human are that (1) you're not going to like every single project you see, and (2) you may outgrow the types of projects that are commonly featured on Scratch. For (1), that's okay; just move on to the next project. For (2), that's also okay — the types of featured projects don't really change, but if you're outgrowing them, perhaps it's time to search elsewhere for projects you'd enjoy.

I think scratch team should choose better projects to be featuredpicture this:
you are a new user. oblivious of what the editor's limitations are. rather than jumping and diving into it, you look at a project and see inside.
the code's simple and you understand it. maybe you even understand something you didn't prior to looking inside the project, or possibly learn something out of it.
now imagine what you are suggesting in that scenario. “better” projects on the front page, say, you said a 3D minecraft project, so I'll go with that as an example.
a new user can probably be amazed and go “how was this even made”, but can they understand it and try to learn something from it? yes, possibly. but we're talking about a site that allows any age gap to join. someone might possibly not even get a thing of all the pen trickery.
the reason there are simple projects being picked rather than only complex ones (theres also some occasional complex projects also) is so you can learn something from it.
(#2)subjective. trending shows what's being viewed a lot, not handpicked.
We cannot say the same for trending.
some people might even be enjoying a trending project as we're posting on here, same goes for featured.

I love that you are being kind to less experienced scratchers, but the way I see it, the front page of scratch, especially the featured section, should showcase the awesome, hardworking scratchers and their games. When I click on that Scratch bookmark, the first thing I see is the featured section, and I want to see worthwhile games and animations that deserve publicity. Instead, all I see now is simple, stereotypical mediocre programs with not much purpose other than increase the self-confidence of beginners. I'm not saying that's a bad thing! I would have loved it if a younger me got a feature! But the whole idea of a featured project is showing how amazing the Scratch community is and how advanced the limits of Scratch are. I'm usually not seeing that in today's features. According to @prehistoric-pancake , the point of a simple featured project is to teach rookies the basics. We all know how many tutorials there are on YouTube and how many mentors there are to teach kids about scratch. We don't need the featured section to transform into a Kahn Academy for the learners. I don't know everything, but I would love to see actual features and not something that was thrown together in 5 minutes.About 4 years ago, scratch featured projects were awesomeRemindMe! 4 years

I disagree. Why should people have to go off-site to get easy projects? If I just joined scratch, I would probably be intimidated, or think that I'm bad at scratch. To add on, Scratch is — at its core — an educational platform to learn programming. Scratch would want to cater to its target audience: new Scratchers who are new to programming — and cannot understand complex code yet.[…]I disagree. Why should people have to go off-site to get easy projects? If I just joined scratch, I would probably be intimidated, or think that I'm bad at scratch. Thats not very good, is it?

I'd also like to add - generally, advanced projects get the views that they deserve - as well as helpful comments & support. The more basic projects? Not so much.
I think it builds a nice sense of community that all ranges of projects get featured. So if someone proposes your project to the Propose Projects to be Featured studio, and the Scratch Team picks it, you don't have to have a super complex project with hundreds of blocks of code just to get some recognition.
If you want to propose some more advanced projects, you can always propose them here and a curator should add them if they're not too popular.

Have we forgotten this is rejected in 2 ways?
7.16 Change the types of projects to be featuredAlso do any of you people actually look at featured projects? There's quite a lot of cool ones!! If you're so upset that your favourite project wasn't featured then just propose it in the studio…
The Scratch Team has a list of types of projects they are looking to feature in the Propose Projects to be Featured studio. Such a list has existed for years, and the Scratch Team is happy with the kinds of projects they have been featuring. While some Scratchers are unhappy with the types of projects being featured, it is ultimately up to the Scratch Team to decide what to feature.
4.2 Dislike button or a project rating system
Generally, a user's first project is something rather simple, such as a test project, a remix, or a project made using a tutorial. Because this project is simple, other users may give the project low ratings since it is not advanced. With low enough ratings, the creator might be discouraged enough to stop using Scratch. Moreover, constructive feedback is encouraged on Scratch. A dislike button may show the creator how many people disliked their project, but it tells nothing about what the creator could do better. If you do not like a project, you could choose not to love it, or you could leave a respectful and constructive comment telling the user how to improve, in addition to saying what you like about the project.

Scratch is pictured to be a room with low floors, wide walls and a high ceiling, if we only consider the high ceiling, the low floor will get left out.
Simple projects must be featured just as much as complex ones.
Also, complex projects like 3D Minecraft do not run well on weak computers.
