add more rules to the community guildlines

I just advertise a project(not even mine)and i just got muted for 5 mins
it's not in your guildlines so add that PLZ
and also add the rule that says you can't advetise a chrome extention in you guildlines
before that it was only in a forums post so idk u can't expect everyone to see a single post so hope that you'd add that!

we have invisible rules i guess

Anyway the community guidelines imo it’s just a thing for you to follow, not exactly a rules page
For it to delve into things like “do not advertise” would seems weird

And btw, you can advertise if the creator of project/user allows it

Theres simply too much rules to add there.

A warning isn't really that scary, it really is just a warning, as in, they warn you to not do that, and once you get the warning, you would know the rule.

The Community Guidelines state “Please keep comments respectful and avoid spamming or posting chain mail.” Advertising is a form of spamming.

Who wants who to fail? If you mean the Scratch Team wants Scratchers to break the rules to punish them, then you are wrong.

While I agree that the rules set down in the Announcements forum are not paid enough attention, adding them to the CGs would both make the CGs incredibly long, and somewhat defeats the point of them. The CGs are essentially the basic rules for the website, additional rules come and go from time to time, but there is always something in the CGs or Terms of Use to back them up.

I agree that the community guidelines need to be short and easy to get through but adding a few words to help with the confusion about advertising would be helpful to the community and the moderators.

The term “spamming” has a special meaning in the Scratch culture. To the outside that means posting or sending something multiple times but here you can get an alert for just doing it one time.

I once asked Paddle2see to explain and he provided an unofficial elaboration “Spam is the act of posting content unrelated to the situation where it is posted in, which is likely to annoy other users.” https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Spam

The community guideline says “ Please keep comments respectful and avoid spamming or posting chain mail.”

I’d like to see that expanded, just slightly, to something like “Please keep comments respectful and avoid posting anything unrelated, anything likely to annoy others, or posting chain mail.”

Admittedly this still does not say “no advertising” and someone might still post on this frog game https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/2113372/ (“hey if you liked this frog game then you might also like this frog jumping game: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/27783/ but as a balance between being clear and being brief it might be a step in the right direction. And I believe it makes it easier for an alert about advertising to tie back to something stated in the community guidelines.

Wrong. Advertisement of Scratch projects is only partially allowed, see https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/396541/ for more information.

It is allowed to advertise other websites as well, as long as by sharing them you aren't breaking the Terms of Use (basically, no websites that in turn break Scratch's Terms of Use, which means among other things, no social media websites), under the same conditions in the post I linked above.

The extension policy was created after the Terms of Use last updated though, so a lot of people who have no idea that topic exists, would just assume when they get muted that there were false positives.

Scratch doesn't have enough money for lawyers.

False, mostly. They already do, according to an ancient topic from 2019.

That may have changed over the last 5 years.
