《 Sunshine Bay City ▪ World Information 》
Welcome to the World Info for Sunshine Bay City!
This is a forumised version of the world info for Sunshine Bay City, a roleplay that started out on Scratch that has since become a worldbuilding passion project for myself, Skylar, and Hope (euphoriafall). The main project full of info exists here, however the project may be unable to run or crash older/slower systems, so this forum was made in the intrests of accessibility.
If you belive that this post better belongs in another forum (such as collaboration) - please let me know! Thank you very much!
History & Geography
General Overview
Sunshine Bay has a metroplitan area which is formed of the City of Sunshine Bay (colloqially known as Sunshine Bay Proper, or Sunshine Bay City), and five surrounding districts - Otter Bay Area, Riverside, Westwood Hills, Evergreen, and Hope Harbour Area. However, the city limits are contained within the main City of Sunshine Bay.
Sunshine Bay City is where Sunshine Bay eventually began to become a sprawling metropolis (of sorts). The architecture varies a lot here, but there are also many office buildings. It is an area where old meets new. Highly modern skyscrapers are met the next street down with older buildings, made of sandstone. Kind of like Central London. But next to an ocean. There are also many, many parks.
Sunshine Bay is incredibly sunny, with light winds and a climate averaging 15C-25C year round, with temperatures reaching over 30C in June/July and lows of 5C in the winter. Sunshine Bay also has large storms and is also fairly rainy, but most days are sunny.
Parliament & Exhibition Squares
Parliament Square is an area of Sunshine Bay where the Houses of Parliament are located, involving the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Sunshine Bay is a member of the British Commonwealth, and has the King as its head of state. Sunshine Bay is internationally represented by its Governor-General, with the Prime Minister holding all the legislative power in the parliament. MPs’ and Local Councillors’ main offices are also located here. Parliament Square is also home to a museum about the history of democracy, with its aim to encourage young people to vote and use their democratic rights.
The Exhibition Square area is essentially a mini city. The Exhibition Square area covers a small area of land, but it is extremely busy and touristic, with many museums about science, history, art galleries, and many interactive events. There are some nearby high(er) rise buildings which serve as hotels and staff accommodation.
The Exhibition Square Museums include:
- Sunshine Bay Museum of Science
- Sunshine Bay National Historical Museum
- Sunshine Bay Transport Museum
- National Archives
- Museum of Film History
- Museum of Natural History
- National History of Spaceflight Museum
- Historical Fashion Museum
- Sunshine Bay Museum of Archaeology
- Sunshine Bay Museum of Palaeontology
- Sunshine Bay Museum of Zoology
Sunshine Bay Biomedical Campus
Sunshine Bay Biomedical Campus is the site of a large, sprawling biomedical research campus, and the city’s main hospital. The hospital is located at the north of the campus, facing a major road, with a sliproad leading directly to A&E.
The main hospital building takes up a significant amount of space, with a nearby parking lot (of course). Surrounding the main hospital building are some lovely green spaces, for both staff and patients.
At the west of the campus is the paediatric department, which is its own separate building, with its own separate A&E department.
Surrounding the main hospital and its green spaces are research buildings, which are low-rise (15m) with many labs, among other things. These buildings are placed at irregular intervals, with greenery surrounding it.
The Medical College is located within the main site, with a purpose-built lecture hall and canteen, but aside from that, they just share with the research labs for space.
The Bay Area
The Bay Area is both filled with touristic beaches. Towards the north of the area is the more leisure-oriented side of the bay. Towards the south side (Sunset Marina & South Quays), the area begins to look more industrial, as the main port used to be there, before the construction of New Moorhaven Port (which sits west of Sunshine Bay Ice Arena). (The old Moorhaven Port is now a centre about otters, as it was found that the original Moorhaven Port was encroaching into otter territory)
Canary Square
Sunshine Bay is also home to many offices, particularly in Canary Square, the city's coporate and financial hub. Zoning regulations prevent any excessively tall skyscrapers from being built, with a limit of 100m in height. Canary Square is a general area filled with mostly finance and technology businesses.
Highbrook
Highbrook is filled with various council housing estates, with houses up at affordable prices. The Highbrook area is a large community with many flat blocks. The Highbrook area also provides many schools, shops and local services that benefit some of Sunshine Bay’s (relatively) poor and struggling residents. Highbrook is also clean and has good connections to other train stations and bus routes.
Essential Services
School System
Sunshine Bay's School System is based on the British school system. The British school system operates as follows:
Primary School - Children begin primary school at age 4 (Recception). They spend 7 years, finishing with their SATs in Year 6 (Grade 5).
Secondary School - Children spend 5 years in secondary school (Years 7-11/Grades 6-10). The last two years of secondary school (Years 10-11/Grades 9-10) are spent studying for the GCSE exams, and students can choose which subjects they want to take (with mandatory science, English literature, English language and maths), and take exams at the end of Year 11.
Sixth Form - Students spent 2 years in sixth form, from Years 12-13 (Grades 11-12). This is spent studying for either A-Level or IB (International Balacurate) qualifications. At the end of Year 13, students sit the A-Level or IB Exams (depending on their option). After that, based on their grades, students are offered university places.
University - University operates like any other universities, with undergrad, postgrad and PhD/MD degrees.
Police Services
The Police Service is split into uniformed officers, and detectives (plainclothes) officers. It covers the entire metropolitan area of Sunshine Bay, not just within the main city limits (where this roleplay takes place).
These are the departments within Sunshine Bay's police department (these are not strictly all the departments):
- Sunshine Bay Transport Police
- Police Dogs Unit (K-9)
- Fraud & Cyberfraud
- Underwater Search
- Community Officers
- Cybercrime
Police Stations are scatted all across Sunshine Bay, sometimes connected to fire stations, and sometimes are standalone buildings.
Fire Services
Sunshine Bay's Fire Services also operates across the whole Metropolitan Area. There are fire stations scatted all across the metroplitan area.
The ones within Sunshine Bay's City Limits are:
- Sunset Marina
- Highbrook
- Exhibition Square & Parliament Square
- Sunshine Bay Biomedical Campus
- Queens & Sunshine Bay International
- Constellation Way
- Sunshine Bay Road
Lifeguards
Sunshine Bay Lifeboats run lifeguarded beaches all across the coastline under the juridstiction of Sunshine Bay's local council.
All of Sunshine Bay's beaches are lifeguarded.
Lifeboat stations are located at:
- South Quays and Sunset Marina
- Moorhaven Port
- Bay View
- Sunshine Bay International Railway Station
- Hope Harbour
Healthcare Services
Sunshine Bay has extensive helathcare services, with many hospitals, urgent care centres and General Practioners (Family Medicine Doctors) across the city, overseen by the Sunshine Bay Medical Services, who run a British-style healthcare system (paid for by taxes). The central hospital is located within Sunshine Bay Biomedical Campus.
Hospitals
- Sunshine Bay Hospital
- Sunshine Bay Children's Hospital
Emergency Medical Services
These are provided for by the Sunshine Bay Medical Services. Sunshine Bay has multiple ambulance crews and ambulance stations, along with air ambulance coverage across the whole city. Sunshine Bay's ambulances are white.
Sunshine Bay's ambulance stations are located at:
- Sunshine Bay Biomedical Campus
- South Quays and Sunset Marina
- Sunshine Bay International Railway Station
- Highbrook South
- Lime Square
- Angel Square
- Constellation Way
- Sunshine Bay Road
Sunshine Bay also has three air ambulance stations located across the metroplitan area, the one within the city limits in Sunshine Bay Biomedical Campus.
Transport Services
Transport Services within Sunshine Bay City (excluding mainline railway services) are run under Transport for Sunshine Bay (TfSB). They manage the buses, metro, and cycle hire, and are responsible for all new transport projects within Sunshine Bay.
All transport can be paid with contactless or the Sunshine Bay pay-as-you-go travelcard, the Breeze Card.
Buses
Buses are run very regularly, with bus stops all around the city. Each bus has a prefix, which identifies where it runs and which area it serves. Despite many buses running outside the city limits, TfSB still runs the buses.
Bus prefixes are as follows:
0 prefix / no leading prefix: tourist buses and central Sunshine Bay commuter buses
* 001/1: Evergreen International Airport Express Bus
1 prefix: Commuter buses covering the whole of Sunshine Bay’s city limits
2 prefix: Buses running within Evergreen District
3 prefix: Buses running within Riverside District
4 prefix: Buses running within the Otter Bay Area
5 prefix: Buses running within Hope Harbour
6 prefix: Commuter buses running to places in Sunshine Bay
7 prefix: Buses that make loops within and around Sunshine Bay’s City limits (ring road buses)
8 prefix: Charter services, very uncommon
9 prefix: not in use
Trains
There are currently two main train operating companies within Sunshine Bay that serve the Sunshine Bay Metropolitan Area.
Eastern Railway
Eastern Railway mainly serves as a link between Sunshine Bay and other towns outside the Metropolitan Area.
Citylink
Citylink mainly serves as a suburban rail link mostly serving the suburbs within the Sunshine Bay Metropolitan Area.
Overground
The overground is operated by TfSB, however is considered a part of the mainline railway network, as it runs above ground and has a track built to the mainline railways, as it often shares track with Eastern Railway and Citylink.
Metro
Sunshine Bay’s metro primarily operates within the densely populated City of Sunshine Bay, and is operated by TfSB. Sunshine Bay’s Metro has 6 underground lines, and 1 technically mainline railway service (the overground). The metro is operated very similarly to the London Underground with scheduled train service, due to the complicated nature of some lines (especially the Northern and District Lines). Sunshine Bay’s metro is middle-aged, and was built around the same time other major metros were being constructed. All the platforms have platform screen doors installed on them (with the exception of any above ground stations). The metro is extensive, as the city and its surrounding districts are quite large.
The Metro Map can be viewed futher down in this post.
Bikes
TfSB operates a bike hire service, which can be used to cycle all around Sunshine Bay, mainly covering the central area.
Evergreen International
Evergreen International Airport (EVI) is the main international airport servicing Sunshine Bay. It has incredibly good bus, road, and rail connections. The airport is served by the Circle Line, and the 001 Evergreen Airport Express bus.
The airport’s IATA code is EVI (disclaimer: this is not a real airport code nor is it a real airport)
The airport has four main passenger terminals, and a large cargo terminal.
The terminals are used as follows:
Terminal 1 - Primarily short to medium haul flights, operated by various carriers.
Terminal 2 - Terminal 2 is used for flights to North America, South America, and Africa, hosting airlines like United, American, Delta, and LATAM. This terminal hosts mainly traditional airlines, but the occasional budget airline does fly in here.
Terminal 3 - Terminal 3 is used for flights within Asia and Oceania. It serves airlines such as: EVA Air, Air China, China Eastern, QANTAS, and Air New Zealand.
Terminal 4 - Terminal 4 is used for Sunshine Bay’s home airline and flag carrier, Evergreen Airlines (not to be confused with EVA Air) along with its subsidiaries. Terminal 4 is the quietest terminal.
Capacity
Evergreen International runs on a slot system, and runs 24 hours a day. It has double the capacity of London Heathrow due to its four parralell runways (1,300 flights a day). It has plenty of area for expansion. However, the airport is currently only half full (650 flights a day)
