Maybe it could be this too:

move pen to layer () ::pen //so it would start behind sprites, but you could set it like sprite layers

move pen forward () layers ::pen

move pen backward () layers ::pen

move pen to back ::pen

move pen to front ::pen

That was kind of a list of suggestions (moving the backdrop and pen layers). Also, someone mentioned earlier on this topic, and the original poster responded and said that the title wasn't going to be changed because early replies might've been confusing.
