The community is shaped by the program. If there are downsides then it's the community. It is basically just internet points that don't mean anything. Most spam will probably be harmless until people start making likebots and advertise some weird stuff, but that most likely won't happen anytime soonSee @BringUpYourPost's comment directly above yours. There's definitely downsides. support because there are no downsides. If someone is harassing people because of likes on their comments they're probably insane and you can report them. and spam isn't really an issue unless it is an advertisement. (just ignore it) there should also be a tab for sorting by most liked cause then it wont mean anything

people exploit stuff on scratch all the time, st wouldn't remove the projects feature because one guy is spamming tags on theirsThe community is shaped by the program. If there are downsides then it's the community. its a good idea because it lets people know that they like their comments without spamming “yes” or “I like it” so much that the owner turns off commenting
also if they use it to spam just report it
also if they use it to spam just report it

I don't think this would be a good feature to add because you can already express that kind of thing really easily by replying to the comment and saying “I agree” or “I disagree” or “That's awesome” or other things. I don't think this should be added.

(#913)and you can just report them for spam, the ST responds to reports pretty quickly these days(#911)Good point, but that occurs almost anywhere else. You just have to look in the right places.

Sonic SaysHey there, I'm sonic__fan. I just look for good suggestions to add to Scratch.
Every world has its end. I know that's kinda sad, but, that's why we have to live life to the fullest in the time we have. At least… that's what I figure.

Lately, I have been seeing some hilarious comments, and I think that people should be able to upvote them.
I highly doubt the scratch team will develop this feature as it is not all all centered around ‘numbers’. I've seen many reasons from the scratch team rejecting ideas for this sole reason, they don't want people to start focusing on numbers, as in amount of likes, favs, follows etc, because this defeats the whole purpose of scratch. Scratch is meant to be an education, coding-based program where people create projects because they want to and like/fav project because they enjoy them.

If a comment is hating someone, just report it.
Comments won't always get reported, and the person it's hating might be the first one to see it so…

No support, its like the project rating thing. It discourages unpopular opinions as they would probably get alot of dislikes.
The suggestion for this thread is liking comments, not disliking projects. Someone tried to make a new suggestion derailing the conversation, please take no notice of that, just focus on the liking/upvote system.
You obviously didn't read the other posts in the thread because of this:
Right. No downvoting.

A) I think that comments should only be able to be liked/upvoted by the project creator. I am saying this because @julmik6478 made a very good point on how the like button feature could be abused. As in, someone says ‘'press the like button if you think this project is super cringey’' A project creator is much less likely to ridicule their own projects, so the possibility of the above issue occurring is unlikely.
B) This can cause arguments. Users can complain to the community or project creators that their comment was ‘'better’' or ‘'funnier’', and either demand that their comments be liked too, or become hostile to the project creator or community members who agree with the liking, should they say, ‘'Liking this comment! Lol!’', ‘'I would’ve liked this comment too tbh'', or the like.
C) A limit of how many comments can be liked by a project creator should be put in place. Users can feel upset if 29/30 comments are liked and theirs is just left unliked. It would be slightly childish and a bit immature, but somewhat understandable. Additionally, if liked comments appear at the top, a project creator can simply advertise multiple times and like those comments so they drown out every other comment.
