Lets Talk about Mass-Reporting.

I'm sure we ALL know about mass-reporters, but if not: A mass-reporter is someone who reports a person until they are banned. They use the report button to troll or get ride of innocent scratchers(for his or her own personal gains)

In my opinion, these are THE worst type of scratchers. I my self have been mass reported into oblivion more then 5 times! during the CBU-UMNS war. but the problem is that mass reporting works & Scratch just lets it!

because of how scratch's moderation chat-bot works, Scrather A can just report every single comment, project, studio(& said projects/studios/comments follow the community guidelines EXACTLY) owned by Scratcher B, & in a few hours Scratcher B would be banned. This is simply OUTRAGES! & i think S.T should do more about this…………….. I have seen 2 many good scratchers(I my self) get banned this way, perfectly innocent people who follow the guidelines getting banned anyway.

So your * if you do follow the guidelines, & your * if you don't.

How i think this could be fixed:
1. Put a report limit, maybe something like: You can only report a 1 individual scracher about 2-3 times per day.

2. Make it take longer to report something, this includes a “I'm not a Robot” test, & other time consuming tests to complete your report. So only people who are reporting a ACTUAL bad peoject/studio/comment will report them, it does not have to be 2 time consuming. Just enough to make mass-reporting not worth it.

3. GET A BETTER MODERATION BOT, OMG i have gotten so many projects taken down for things said project has NOTHING to do with. So the moderation should be upgraded so innocent projects DON"T get taken down!

4. If someone gets reported several times, the mod. bot auto. bans said person, without looking at the evidence. So a mob of people can report someones profile, & the bot just bans them because a large number of people reported him(or her) regardless of him(or her) really being innocent or not.
this is SUPER massed up & needs to be fixed.

Welp this is my very 1st forum post.

Firstly, wrong forum (should be questions about scratch or suggestions)

This isn't going to work, sometimes there are instances where you need to report a lot of things. I can't find a source for this, but I remember hearing that the report system worked only when multiple users reported.

If you use a captcha on the report button, legitimately reporting a lot of content in a short amount of time wouldn't work.

Lets Talk about Mass-Reporting.

You have a very sharp point(lol), & i respect your opinion.

Tho in my opinion: If something(or someone) is REALLY braking the community guidelines & cuz of the longer report time & report limits people would report it no matter the time & limits. the time does not have to be long, just enough to make mass reporting someone just not worth it.

Tho sorry about the wrong forum thing(this is my very first forum & this is all very new to me)

Lets Talk about Mass-Reporting.

First off, you do know that mass-reporting happens less than people think and most just say it was mass reported to cover something up?

1. This already takes place, it just lets you report but I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually do more (source needed)
2. Good idea, but the thing is, there are some actual projects that need to be reported, such as inappropriate projects.
3. ST is busy, and they don't really have a way to detect pictures or sprites in a project.
4. I kind of agree with this, but once again, some projects may be actually bad, so the current system is useful for that.

Also nice first post!

Lets Talk about Mass-Reporting.

Fun fact about this:

During the height of MR(Mass Reporting) A new method was made to target people easier. bots were made to automatically report a account, and this was called MBR(Mass Bot Reporting)

It was used to attack people who the users of MBR didn't like.
Also, an attempt was made to MBR serval big scratchers.
The reason this was so successful was because of the scratch bot used for moderation(at the time)

Mass reporting gets more credit than needed. I and a bunch of pals got a freechat taken down (which mind you could have had a person get trauma) and then the owner immediently claimed mass reports. Please actually read this essay by epic legendary gamer jvvg.

I in like 2023 december alone reported quite a lot of bad stuff if i don't recall wrong
This limit would've made me be taking literal days to get the ST's attention on some bad stuff people posted

Mass reports are already not worth it. 3.0 pages automatically negate your report if you have already reported it already (and this is done with an IP check if im not wrong, but then again I can't cite a source) so you need to already waste a ton of time for it.

The only moderation bot that exists is the comment and forum filter. Besides that, all of it is human. Infact, if your stuff is REALLY innocent, how about you look into your project yourself, maybe it has too realistic guns, has jumpscares or screamers, or something else.

I've gotten a heck load of actual human responses from Contact-Us, including when I reported a literal txt file worth of inappropriate usernames.

Infact, if you really believe you are innocent, ask Contact-Us for a second review. If they say it's not appropriate, YOU are doing something wrong and just don't see it.

That only happens from the autotakedownbot, it needs seperate IPs. And also, do you know how ANY moderation system works AT ALL?

“Guilty until proven innocent.”

Would you rather be called lazy because you miss a few reports or literally seem like you are doing MARATHONS on moderating your site? The ST are doing the second. And mind you, they're actually not even obligated:

Terms of Use wrote:

4.6 In addition to reviewing reported user-generated content, the Scratch Team reserves the right, but is not obligated, to monitor all uses of the Scratch service. The Scratch Team may edit, move, or delete any content that violates the Terms of Use or Community Guidelines, without notice.
And even then, if they WERE obligated, they'd have to be WAY stricter than they are currently. And I can cite a source for myself here, too.

Like I said, guilty until proven innocent.

If it was innocent until proven guilty, you would complaining about the opposite - Inappropriate things not getting taken down fast enough.

Excuse my hypocrisy for not citing a few sources here in my post thus making me a hypocrite right now, but can you please cite a source for where you got this from? And also, again, the only bots that exist are autotakedown and comment filter. All other is human.

I got this from serval people(who weren't very trustful). I haven't realized that moderation was not bots.

I know I'm the second person to bring it up, but you should read jvvg's essay about this. In summary, mass reporting is generally an excuse by people who had projects breaking the CGs and want sympathy.
