I curate like 15 studios, and most of them are active often. I have the message filters on all activity, and studio activity messages should pop up. But they don't. I don't have any scratch extensions that have with messages to do enabled, only onion skinning and pause button. My brother gets studio activity messages, so it can't be a scratch bug, can it?

So I don't get messages from the studio if I don't follow it, even though I curate it. Huh, scratch team should fix that.

But I follow a lot of studios but I still don't get any messages!

That is not true. Following a studio does not affect whether you get notifications from it. The reason you're not getting any notifications is probably because they're not working right now.
