I read page ::control hat
if <posts are all bumps ::sensing> then
say [all of these posts are bumps]
end

But seriously, I support, it'd be annoying seeing a flashing happy face gif for a profile.

Also to add onto the discussion, just make two options, one being that you can turn off the gifs freely, or turn them on again.

Edit: I accidentally put “turn them off” twice after I posted this lol

That was the original suggestion and what I think would work best - that said, the ST might not have the resources to implement something that complex to the site which is why “just turn them off” was also suggested.

Support! I always find myself zooming in and scrolling away from gifs to read comments because they're just so distracting
the flashing lights are a bit of an issue too, since you cant put a fw on a pfp

Browsers have a “prefer reduced motion” toggle that websites can detect, so Scratch wouldn't have to implement and store an option in Account Settings for it; they could just have it be based on that toggle. Though this might lead to people getting confused over “why aren't gifs working??????”.

I agree with your points.

It seems that Scratch, starting with it's palette change, is trying to be more accessible to people with disabilities. I believe this would help with that goal.

It would not draw too many resources away from the Scratch Team, too.

It seems like it would be good on all fronts.

True, good point about the “prefer reduced motion” setting! Though if the preference based on browser settings is being stored in Account Settings anyway, why not just make an independent toggle? Then it would work if the user logs in from a different device or if they don't know how to change the browser settings. I agree the ST would need to be clear in communication about it to avoid the inevitable “why can't I see gifs?” debate. (If it wasn't a default setting then those who don't need it wouldn't even notice the change, though).

Exactly! I'm so happy that they've made the recent changes for accessibility because it does demonstrate that it's something they care about. I just think it would be great if they could extend this to other accessibility-related site features, and to disable gifs seems like something that wouldn't need too many resources.

I feel like there should be a control in the settings for that because some of us want .GIFs for our pfps and projects to make them more eye-catching. so I'm not disagreeing with anyone I just think there should be smth in the settings for the people who are triggered by that kinda thing.

HUGE bump and also support this would be really useful for some people, probably a toggle in account settings(“disable animated images” or something similar)
