Copyable Save Code

I’m making a game that has a save system implemented, it works, its been used, and basically how it works is you press a key, it saves all the info, and then pulls up a list with one item in it, being the save code. Before to copy that save code you just had to drag over it to select it and copy the text, and eventually at some point the entire save code will get copied instead of the first 6 letters. I was trying to find a way to make copying it more reliable and i had discovered that Shift+Ctrl+Right Arrow selected the entire code. I then tried to copy it exactly the same again and the key combo just did not do anything, i kept trying and very rarely it would actually work and every time it does work it seems to become even more unlikely for it to select. Why is this happening? I test the exact same keybind on other websites and on other things in scratch and it works perfectly with no issues. It just doesn’t work on the project.

It works on a touchscreen device- kind of. (I know because I'm on one right now writing this) If you double-tap a word it highlights it- you can try making the save code all one ‘word’ by not including any punctuation or spaces- numbers work best.

Also, CTRL+SHIFT+click doesn't work on any touchscreen device without an external keyboard.

Ok, so the double and triple click does not work on in game, fullscreened lists. Also this is what a save code looks like if that changes anything

Or try removing the periods and replacing them with a character that your save code doesn't use, that does NOT classify as punctuation- or a word break, such as a “,”, “.”, “!”, “?”, “ ”, “-”, “+”, “=”, “(” or “)”, "“, ”{“ or ”}“, ”/“, ”\“, ”|". Mobile devices often consider these to be the end of a word, and thus don't highlight anything past them.

Also, if all of the segments in your save code are the same length, then you don't actually need a character separating them- just loop however many characters long those segments are.

This still does not explain why sometimes ctrl+shift+right arrow doesn’t work and sometimes it does

What do you mean by this? Every single character in the code is used, the E and the period is scientific notation, the format im using for the game. I designed a very efficient save and load system that works perfectly, that isn’t what this discussion is about.

Try using something other than a period, like another letter, and then when you go to load changing it to a period. Idk why CTRL+SHIFT+click isn't working, probably a quirk of either your browser or scratch.

Also, I do admire the efficiency of using scientific notation in a save code. I just didn't recognize it as scientific notation earlier.

Ok, so thing is on every website and other places on scratch Shift+Ctrl+Right Arrow key works perfectly to select the entire line of code even if there are periods in it. But when i try it on a list in a game, it only works sometimes but not other times. One thing i noticed is if you select the number by clicking the top of it or the middle, it doesn’t work, but if you select the number right at the bottom, the blue box is identical, but the key combo works. All of these issues only appear in the lists in scratch, any other source of text on scratch or other websites works perfectly fine, you can even test the key combo on this message. Even. Though. There. Are. Periods.

Thanks! I use scientific notation so that when i use sprites to display numbers i dont have to make space to allow numbers in the billions, i can just use small little areas to contain numbers all the same size. The largest it can get is 9 digits because scratches number limit is 1.000E300, which is a number so large you would have to dedicate years to reach it. The only flaw is some people dont know how to read scientific notation even if you tell them how.
