Why does Scratch need a confirmed email just for a profile picture

Someone wants a profile picture (not me) and needs a confirmed email. i want it to be so you dont need it confirmed. please tell me if there is a reason or if this is not in the right topic.

In the context of profile pictures, confirming an email is required just to help prevent any troublemakers from making an account just to upload inappropriate content. Confirming an email is one barrier that could stop some troublemakers from doing so. This is a similar reason why accounts cannot upload anything (comments, projects, etc.) until they confirm an email.

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.
