Support. Have a setting where you can toggle between 4:3 and 16:9. If someone is using a 4:3 monitor viewing a 16:9 project, shrink the 16:9 window down to fit in the screen, the opposit is also true as it is now. this feature is long overdo.

To be honest, no.
The 4:3 size we have now is square, simple and neat.
The whole point of scratch is the teach kids code and being square, simple and neat is pretty important.
An option will be too long, complicated and messy.
Imagine a teacher teaches something to do with
So they switch to 16:9 and their whole project breaks.
The teacher and themselves end up getting so confused they switch to Scratch JR, the main Scratch website explodes and we all move on in life.
Plus the ST will never add anything anyway.

From my understanding, projects that already exist won't be updated to 16:9 unless the creator wants to do so. Some projects won't work correctly with the wider ratio aspect.

One problem that could occur if this is implemented is that order projects wouldn't be able to render correctly due to the aspect ratio change. Another problem is that it would break compatibility with older 4:3 displays

Just render older projects in 4:3 and make it an option to toggle between the aspect ratios One problem that could occur if this is implemented is that order projects wouldn't be able to render correctly due to the aspect ratio change. You know how on 16:9 screens when viewing a project it doesn't fill the whole screen? Do the same thing for older displays by having blank space on the top and bottom

(#192)The aspect ratio would be a choice, and not many people use 4/3 displays. Even if they do, it doesn't fill the display entirely (toolbar) and it could just work how it works for 16/9 now: leave blank space.

4:3 isn't actually a square (that would be either 4:4 or 3:3, which are both effectively 1:1). If this is added, then it should just be an option per project, rather than apply to the entire website. The default could still be 4:3, but people could have the ability to switch their projects (on a project-by-project basis) to 16:9. This way, it doesn't break old projects, and nobody is forced to use 16:9 or 4:3 if they don't want to. To be honest, no.

Keep in mind that one of the reasons 4:3 was chosen as the screen ratio of the first televisions was that it is one of the most efficient screen ratios out there- you see the most per amount of space taken up. It's not a bad screen ratio, just a lot of computers these days have 16:9 screens because they are more popular.

Forum tips:
Don't title topics something like “HELP ME!!!”. It's not helpful, and won't get you as many responses.
Don't post in topics where the latest post is over ~2 months old, unless you have something critical to add. Especially in topics that are several years old- it isn't helpful, and is known as necroposting.
Don't post unrelated things in topics, including questions of your own. Make a new topic for your questions.

16 x 9 aspect ratio please!
Once again, this form has been going on since 2013.
Here are, once again, my opinions on this;
A few years ago, I made a post here, explaining how this would be a horrible idea. And I stand with what my original post had written, it would be chaos!
If scratch were to convert all projects to 16:9, everything would break and look bad, as all projects were built with 4:3 in mind. Even if scratch team were to make it a toggleable option, people would still soon begin to migrate entirely to 16:9, and overall begin to prefer it. Leaving the poor 4:3 projects into dust as the child creators either don't want to, or don't know how to convert them into a 16:9 project. This would inevitably make everyone switch to 16:9 and 4:3 being removed in a later update due to inactivity.
Adding on, 4:3 is clean, simple and neat. The point of teaching programming to children on scratch is to have it be clean, simple, neat and easy to understand. A toggle would be confusing for younger kids, as they wouldn't know why their teachers screen is in 16:9 but theirs are in 4:3. So they'd all get confused and switch to the FAR inferior, Scratch JR, or even worse, the paid Tynker. Deserting the entire scratch website for probably indefinitely. (thanks to TheSmartGuy1234 for that)
Finally, have you ever heard of project storage limit? Projects can store only 50mb of code and 10mb of assets (sprites, costumes, music, etc), so unless they higher this limit (very unlikely) 16:9 would be incredibly awful for the 10mb asset storage limit, as you would need more space to draw your sprites, and thus, more storage usage.
People definitely have mixed feelings about this topic, and I respect your personal opinions on this matter, but my opinion is sealed indefinitely, as I am (most likely) leaving this discussion forever. Thank you for reading.

Older projects would stay at 4:3, unless the creator wants to change it. If scratch were to convert all projects to 16:9, everything would break and look bad, as all projects were built with 4:3 in mind.
What do you mean by “leaving”? If the project was good, people would still click on it and like it. Even if scratch team were to make it a toggleable option, people would still soon begin to migrate entirely to 16:9, and overall begin to prefer it. Leaving the poor 4:3 projects into dust as the child creators either don't want to, or don't know how to convert them into a 16:9 project.
And if you don't know how to do it, that depends on how it's implemented. Most likely, it'll be a selection made before the project is even created.
And how is that bad? It allows for a wider screen space and just looks nicer in general. This would inevitably make everyone switch to 16:9 and 4:3 being removed in a later update due to inactivity.
How so? Toggles are used a lot in programs that kids use. A toggle would be confusing for younger kids

(#198)What's so wrong? Even though YouTube supports 16/9 videos, I can still make a 4/3 video and upload it. It's not a problem that the 16/9 size will become more common, because it's what most screens use anyways.
(#198)I don't think so. For the same reason they kept hacked blocks (even though almost no project uses them), they will keep 4/3. Also, the environment is made to support changing the resolution, so it's not much of a maintenance issue.
This would inevitably make everyone switch to 16:9 and 4:3 being removed in a later update due to inactivity.
(#198)Really, what makes 4/3 clean, simple and neat?
Adding on, 4:3 is clean, simple and neat
(#198)Even the youngest kids still adjust settings in software.
A toggle would be confusing for younger kids…
(#198)That's why they've got a teacher. To teach them why.
…as they wouldn't know why their teachers screen is in 16:9 but theirs are in 4:3.
(#198)You're overreacting. It's a minor comfusion. They don't get confused because their teacher uses high-contrast blocks, or has the demo sprite as Gobo, either.
So they'd all get confused and switch to the FAR inferior, Scratch JR, or even worse, the paid Tynker. Deserting the entire scratch website for probably indefinitely. (thanks to TheSmartGuy1234 for that)
(#198)For vector graphics, the only thing that matters is the amount of shapes. Not the size.
so unless they higher this limit (very unlikely) 16:9 would be incredibly awful for the 10mb asset storage limit, as you would need more space to draw your sprites, and thus, more storage usage.
For both graphics types, Scratch only stores the actual drawn area of the costume, without the blank space.
And even if you fill the screen, it would only require 33% additional pixels, which is not that much. It's a choice.
Also, this wouldn't even change the number of assets: the limit is 10 mega per asset; there is no limit to the total size.
