if you necropost in any subforum where it is not allowed e.g QaS or BaG, if you are not the St you will be told to not necropost in a popup and comment will not be sent.
You will not recieve an alert or mute

What if someone wants to make a post on an old thread which is not a “necropost”?

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.

I was a Scratch Team member from May 10th 2019 to October 29th 2021.

Necroposting doesn’t have exceptions in sub forums other then suggestions I believe

Bumping a thread is not considered a “necropost” in any forum.

Okay. What if the OP wants to make a post on their old thread which is not a “necropost”?
OP would be allowed, just not random users who have little to do with the topic

medians: Oh god not this utc - 12 thing again..
Fun_Cupcake_i81: What, were you expecting not to see the utc - 12 thing again? THE UTC - 12 THIGN ALWAYS RETURNS. ALWAYS.
medians: I knew it would happen. I was the one who started it last year.
Fun_Cupcake_i81: Well then if you didn't want it back maybe you need to time travel to last year and fix that

Oh wait if you could time travel I think we all know exactly when you would go-

user2: But this is medians we're talking about, so “from 2.0” can mean the same thing as “from five seconds ago”.

There’s a guy who posted on a 6 month old topic and got told they were necroposting

Just an example, but like 3 months are also considered necroposting

The shortest time a post could be a necropost could be as short as about a month by some standards

not that that really matters with this suggestion, as it would atleast prevent really old necroposting

That would be quite inconveniant and confusing, would the ST send you a message to tell you “yes, you can post” afterwards, or would they simply change up the entire DjangoBB system to allow the queuing up of posts?

I recommend that instead of the post not going through, it just has a pop up that it might be a necropost but it still lets you post. It would be a heads up for new forumers

Forcing potential necroposts to not go through would make dupe finding practically useless and result in a lot of the same topics, causing more clutter and confusion on which thread to actually discuss things like suggestions in. Plus, if implemented like that, wouldn't it make more sense to just close the topic after a set amount of time without messages? Either way, constantly having dupes and old insights forgotten through repeats of the same thing wouldn't go very well.

I think this is the best possible implementation of the suggestion, since it doesn't shut down actually constructive posts on old threads and would help prevent actual necroposts more efficiently.

Why is this a thing?

exactly. also, i think the popup should also have a brief description of what a necropost is as well.

It should be like this, a browser dialogue box shows like this.

This topic has not had a post in [#] years, [#] months, and [#] days. It is not recommended you post as you may get a warning for this.

[Cancel] [Post Anyway]

Ofc, this only shows up in QaS
