Why is it Scratch CAT?

Why is it Scratch Cat and not Scratch Dog? Let's think. Maybe the creator of Scratch just really likes cats more than other animals! Or, it could be something else…

Cats are the better species and also resemble how we often watch something durign programming similar to how Cats often do the opposite.

I don't think this falls under a poll in this case, they are asking a genuine question, and just using a comparison with Scratch Dog. They could have said “Why not a lemur?” The main question here is “Why Scratch Cat?”, not “Why not Scratch Dog?”.
