guide to make good projects <3
Think! Is saying if you support a suggestion necessary? No! People can just tell by your constructive post after it. You have more freedom on your tone!
Forumers, especially new, may also get upset if you say “no support!!!” at them! They may take the whole post in a negative tone, and that makes them upset!
Instead, you can kindly say why their suggestion has cons. They will take it as “constructive criticism” and be happy. - dertermenter

I support! You can still convert the files to gif but it would be better if we could do it directly. There's already mp3 support so why not mp4 as well? Merry Christmas!

Bumping this topic to the front page.
I like this suggestion!
This could be great for cinema projects where you can watch movies, or cutscenes!
However, adding to this suggestion, maybe when MP4 files are imported, they should be compressed, and the sound could be a separate part of the MP4.
You know, like in the Sounds tab of the MP4.
Also, I didn't know 'Sandwich posted here a long time ago–

Some rules that aren't mentioned or clarified in the Community Guidelines or the Terms of Use:
- 'The Browser Extension/Userscript Policy' (why you can't say the name of a certain browser extension that lots of Scratchers use)
- '“Art theft” and our remixing policy' (why people are allowed to recolour your OCs with credit)
- 'Shops, Points, and Pretend Currency Systems' (why you technically aren't allowed to use follows as a prize in contests)
- '“Music Sharing” Projects' (why that Imagine Dragons music project from 2021 was taken down)
- “Face Reveal” Projects (why you're not allowed to share your face on Scratch, even if someone wants to draw a portrait of you)
- “Five Nights at Freddy's” (why that fangame you spent a month working on, complete with jumpscares and a traumatising backstory, is not allowed)

Although you can import a .gif, this could make it less annoying, especially if it is slightly longer. However, I believe there should be a limit to the video length- we don't want people importing the whole entirety of Shrek into Scratch with this.

No support. you can already do this. Convert videos to gifs (TONSSSSS of websites online) then upload them. Then do:
I would be big in size, but uploading videos would be no different.
when green flag clicked
forever
next costume
end

It would take a lot of time and memory to decompress and decode the video and decode the audio, and the project would probably be hundreds of MB even for a simple video, and this would crash your computer.
Please don't remove the automatic browser/OS info after making a new Bugs and Glitches forum post, that information really helps a lot!
(unless you are reporting from a different device, then you should specify what device, OS, and browser you have)

The process of importing would be the same as importing gifs. The quality of it would be lowered It would take a lot of time and memory to decompress and decode the video and decode the audio, and the project would probably be hundreds of MB even for a simple video, and this would crash your computer.

That would be for every single video ever uploaded. Also, compressing a GIF is much easier than an MP4, and it might need a lot of server resources which Scratch may not have. The process of importing would be the same as importing gifs. The quality of it would be lowered It would take a lot of time and memory to decompress and decode the video and decode the audio, and the project would probably be hundreds of MB even for a simple video, and this would crash your computer.
Also how would you interact with an MP4 in the editor? Would it be resizeable or anything?

No support, make it much easier to steal videos and music. Also makes it easier for kids to share videos of themselves when they might not know that’s a horrible idea, because all they have it do is record a video with the webcam instead of having to convert it to gif (something that they might not even know can be imported). Gif importing is useful in very specific situations but when you need it it’s very nice to have. But if you really need it just import the audio and video separately

This is not a downside. This proves that it can be implemented into scratch. As not all scratch users have access to turbowarp Avaiable in turbowarp.
