Make a "Don't Remix this" filter.

Hello!

I've been recently going through a bunch of art projects, and i noticed one thing about these art projects… they ask other scratchers to not remix their project.

Which make sense, you don't want anyone to do art theft– but… it goes completely against Scratches Community Guidelines". Which as you expect, made me angry. (of course i did report them)

In fact. its becoming annoying habit.(removed by moderator - please don't name names) the ART side of scratch is filled to the brim to people who just hate the remix button.

So i think adding a SEPARATE Filter. that will automatically remove the text, and prompts the user to not do it.

Here is a mockup purely made in inspect element:

any questions, or concerns? let me know. tysm.

I think it would be better to explain why it's not allowed to ask users to not remix your projects, rather than the very ambiguous, “it's against the community guidelines.”

So something like, “Please don't ask users to not remix your projects, it is against the community guidelines. By sharing your project on Scratch, you have given permission for other users to remix and use assets from it. This is due to the CC-BY-SA 2.0 license that Scratch has secured for all shared projects, which both allows for remixes and usage of assets with proper credit and prohibits the denial of the right to do so. However, if a user remixes a project and it is an exact copy of yours, report the project and provide a link to the original project.”

It’s not against the community guidelines to ask people not to remix something, they just don’t have to listen to your request

Come again?

Community Guidelines wrote:

Embrace remix culture.
Remixing is when you build upon someone else’s projects, code, ideas, images, or anything else they share on Scratch to make your own unique creation.
Remixing is a great way to collaborate and connect with other Scratchers. You are encouraged to use anything you find on Scratch in your own creations, as long as you provide credit to everyone whose work you used and make a meaningful change to it. And when you share something on Scratch, you are giving permission to all Scratchers to use your work in their creations, too.

Well, probably because people do understand its art and art theft/recoloring is bad for the art community.
Or maybe they didn’t know they could report projects like these.

1. this isn't deviantart.
2. they could've known if they would read. but its understandable since this rule is barely ever explained in scratch. i don't think any scratcher under the age of… (probably) 18 who just makes things on here doesn't even know about the rule. let alone know what a license is. this filter is aimed to fix that.

1. Yes, but people still understand that those things are bad (well, not all but some.)
2. Their mind at that moment is probably “they’ll steal my project” and have just scanned through the rules.

That’s not an actual option, and I don’t see where it says it in the community guidelines that asking people not to remix is against the rules; it seems like it would be just in the rules

They want an actual line saying “Do not say don’t remix your project” in the guidelines or rules thing if Scratch has them.

semi support, you could very easily bypass it by doin something like:

description wrote:

d o n o t r e m i x
do-not-rem-ix
don't remix
d-on-o-tr-e-m-i-x
remix dont
remix you must not.
or you could legit just place text into the project that says dont remix.

I think that this section in the Community Guidelines is what should be on the filter:

Community Guidelines wrote:

By asking people to not remix projects, you are not embracing remix culture. In fact, you are discouraging it, which is against the community guidelines (CGs are intentionally vague to encompass more things). Not only that, but legally, it is not allowed to prohibit (or rather, attempt to) or discourage other users from remixing or using your project's assets. My earlier post explains this a bit more than I do in this one.

Honestly, ST could finally get a break from getting accused of hate or targetting (some actually do that because of this rule) and clear confusion.
Support.

1. Its in the “Other” section of reports:

2. Also, apologies if I am rude but you should re-read The Community Guidelines over here. The Guidelines' 3rd Sentence of “Embrace Remix Culture” contains this sentence, thus — It is indeed against rules to ask:

Community Guidelines, "Embrace Remix Culture", Sentence 3 wrote:

And when you share something on Scratch, you are giving permission to all Scratchers to use your work in their creations, too.

edit: apologies if I'm rude here

I have seen that happen in most people’s projects, and it’s not okay. By not allowing anyone to remix, the project itself cannot be built up on with an idea or constructive and creative ways to improve that project. It’s basically against the community guidelines to do this to your project.
