I have been making a tutorial for different things you can make using GIMP, an I have found when you upload a .png or .jpg file, the pictures lose quality.
I have to go over writing in menus and things manually so you can read them.

I think you should increase the size of sprites so you can upload better quality images.

I agree, that happens to me, so I support!

That would mean scratch would have to have a higher resolution. And that could actually ruin alot of other projects. Have you tried making the images in the 480X360 resolution? The words will be bigger and take up more space but you won't lose as much quality doing so.

The bitmap editor allows half-pixels (although you can't draw them with the pencil), so at the very least it should be possible to upload bitmaps at 960*720.

Even better would be an option to import images into an existing costume instead of a new one - that way, you could import a bitmap image of any size into a vector costume and it wouldn't lose any quality.

Support for either of those, preferably the second because it would also speed up making costumes from multiple files.

Yeah, I support, I believe that scratch automagically makes the image bitmap blurring or lowering quality of the image.

this is because you are uploading images that are larger than 480*360.

you must respect this screen resolution if you want clear images, otherwise they become resized.

I agree. When I try and upload an image I created on Medibang Paint Pro, even in Vector mode it is incredibly annoying because it is so pixely. Scratch NEEDS to fix this!

I don't believe you are able to upload images in vector, unless they were originally made in Scratch. I believe that all images get uploaded as bitmap.

I upload images as .svg, and they seem pretty high quality and vector.

That sounds like it may just work… I'll try next time I make something!

SVG Images are really clear…

Try this converter: http://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-svg

Hope this helps!

^ SVG usually looks good. Try the suggestion above and see how it works. Also, here is a project on clear images in Scratch that may help.

This thread is four years old, so please don't post in it if you don't have a reason to bring it back up.

I agree that .svg images are better than .png images. But when I upload my image as .svg, I am Unable to resize it. It is very necessary for me as I want to put my Desktop Screenshot in a Scratch File & Without resizing it leaves White bars below and Above.

I use Medibang as well. I couldn't get svg to work so I sifted through my other options and found BMP works the best, and it looks p r e t t y clear.

have you tried exporting/converting to svg? doing that means you can upload the SVG and since it's only an image things should work out mostly fine
