has anyone gotten this message before?
My browser / operating system: MacOS Macintosh X 10.15.7, Chrome 114.0.0.0, Flash 32.0 (release 0)

i got this while trying to make a new project. i reloaded the page and everything worked fine afterward.
might be an issue with me having an extension, but it doesn't seem like it, and i'm not sure how to replicate it.
has anyone else come across this?

It's not just you, Scratch has been having issues saving and creating projects for a few months at this point, and in February as well.

I have also noticed that error when the servers are lagging or my internet is flakey. Reloading the page usually fixes it.

Scratch works by your device's CPU. If there is too much pressure on it, it gives an error. Usually if you get a “Cannot save” or a “Cannot create new project,” you should try again and it should work. If not, restarting your machine will almost certinly work. If you are on Safari, it gives each website 1 Gb of storage. Sometimes there is less CPU and so the site gets less. CPU overflows are more common as your device gets older.

-snip-I don't think it has much to do with your cpu but to do with Scratch's servers since this issue is also happening for me.

It's been happening for a couple months now (and it also occurred in February but came back at some point), it's not a cpu problem, it's a Scratch problem instead.-snip-I don't think it has much to do with your cpu but to do with Scratch's servers since this issue is also happening for me.
