Changing the description doesn't message anyone that it's changed, nor does it tell anyone exactly what's been changed. You only get one of those “There was new activity in ____ today” messages that I'm pretty sure most people don't pay attention to anyways.
In what way is that a parallel to this suggestion?

Yes, I think that the studio updates should appear in the activity section to help avoid private messaging, and as for the box that can be ticked to receive messages, I think that it should be the other way around. Users would untick the box if they wanted to stop receiving messages, but it would be the default. I do think that the risk of using this feature to DM is high, but it wouldn't technically be private as the messages would be visible in the activity section of the group.

I feel that this is a better suggestion than having to tick a box to receive announcements in the first place; however, I must admit I'm feeling conflicted.

On one hand, I don't necessarily think users should be forced to receive messages they don't want to receive.
On the other hand, I feel like if you care about a studio enough to become a curator, you should care enough to also want to receive important announcements about the studio, especially if there's a cooldown (such as one per day, two per week, etc.). Otherwise, you can just follow the studio - or not join it at all.

only posting once per day is sort of an okay way to stop spamming in this idea, but if i make an error in my update and want to clarify that one part of the post was an error i have to either put it in studio descriptions or comments (which people arent guaranteed to see) or wait until tomorrow to make another post clarifying.
i suggest having some sort of way to block messages from a certain studio, although im not sure how that would work.

but that would have the same problems that come with editing comments (which is rejected)

I agree; I feel that if there were a way to edit posts there could be a lot of confusion between studio members (especially if you're making an announcement about, say, editing a rule). Plus, if managers are allowed to edit other managers' updates, that could make things even more confusing in addition to opening up a window for trolls.
Plus, like Helios said, editing comments is rejected, so I'm guessing editing updates would be as well.

Not just irrelevant; if a studio update is inappropriate or hurtful, it's important to have the option to report it instead of forcing users to go through Contact Us.

I definitely don't check studio activity.

Highly support and it would be amazing to have this in my roleplay. It's very big and hard to manage, and this would be massively helpful. Thank you for suggesting this.

Summary:

What if ST made a thing called “studio updates”? If you're the owner of the studio you can send out 500 character or less “updates” that won't appear on profiles or anything ~ just all of the curators' messageboxes. This way, if a studio is becoming inactive, the owner won't have to go to every member's profile and give an update ~ they can just send it out to everyone at once.

Suggestions:

~ There could be a fifth studio tab that everyone can view called “Updates” to prevent private messaging.
Projects | Comments | Curators | Activity | Updates
~ The updates COULD appear in the comments with something to distinguish them from normal comments, such as an ‘Update from “Studio” by @Manager’ banner or the text all being in bold or italics.
Update from “Studio” by @Manager
(insert update here)
~ To prevent spamming, you can only send out updates once per day (or something similar).
Sorry, this studio has already send out an update today.
~ Every manager can send out updates (this might also help people only choose managers that will benefit the studio).
Bad mock-up coming soon!
~ There should be a “Report” button on the update, to report inappropriate or irrelevant updates.
Would you like to report this update?
Yes | No

Examples:

Update from “Warrior Cats RP” by @Random_Person
Hey everyone! It seems that activity has been going down lately. If you can't be active anymore, please notify me. Otherwise, let's get RPing!

Update from “Really Cool Projects!” by @Random_Person
Hi! I've decided that this will be a non-profit studio. Managers, please remove any curators' projects from the studio. Thanks!
Nice Idea. Support It would be useful
