“anytime someone puts a lock on something you own, against your wishes, and doesn't give you the key, they're not doing it for your benefit.”
not always true, for example if my dad blocks p*rn sites on my computer (which he actually did), that's good
Yeah, but that's your parents. If anybody but your parents, or maybe your government (depends a whole lot, the chinese government censorship stuff isn't for your own good at all) does it it's probably not for your benefit.
you don't really own your computer, your parents do, until you leave home in which case you will most likely get to keep it.
Yeah. even when you pay for it. It's soo annoying.

Yes, but it isn't open, like chrome OS. You don't have the freedom to easily do whatever you want with it.
uhh
enabling untrusted apps
developer options
rooting
custom roms
I said Easily. These are all not easy to do and or are made to look very scary and dangerous so you stay in google's walled garden.

1. Enabling untrusted apps - Looks and sounds very scary.
2. Developer options - Most users won't do this because iT's FoR dEvElOpErS
3. Rooting - hard
4. Custom roms - hard
Number one is necessary for privacy and security with WorldExplorer 4.2.
Number somewhere around #25 is an actual GUI that looks half-decent
Trust me, when WorldExplorer started in January of 2022 privately, using it was plain unbearable. I've improved it a ton.

I might get a Mac with my money. Would a M2 Macbook Air configured with 16GB ram be good for programming, and light gaming?

More than enough depending on what you mean by light gaming.

Does anyone realise that MacOS “Sonoma” is actually just the county that the bliss image was taken in? That’s why the background for Sonoma looks so much like the default windows XP background!

proof

Go watch the event or open the webpage.
Anyways, it looks kinda nice, if only it worked on my 2015 MacBook…

Macs are actually in a really good place right now. There's a good gradient between low-end (M1 and M2 MacBook Air, and Mac mini), mid-end (iMac M1, 15 inch M2 air, 14 and 16 inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro, M2 Pro Mac mini) although there's kinda a gap there, and high-end (14 and 16 inch M2 Max MacBook Pro, Mac Studio) and super high-end (M2 ultra Mac Studio and Mac Pro).
And with the upcoming new higher end iMac, it will really be a good lineup.

Would I still be able to run GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) on a Macbook? I am considering a Macbook a bit more now that the computer I had in mind is becoming obsolete

Of course yes! Just run
xcode-select --install
to install the command line developer tools, that includes GCC

My understanding a few months ago was that the higher-end iMac will be too expensive to complete the lineup in terms of pricing. Especially if they’re keeping retina at…

Macs and Apple products in general last a long time. Like I have an iPad manufactured in 2014 and is using iOS 12. I have a MacBook Pro introduced in Late 2013 and it is using macOS Big Sur.

I got my 2020 MacBook Pro (13") two and a half years ago, in February 2021, and it's worked great. I hope to keep it for a long time. It's a first-gen Apple Silicon Mac (like from when they were first introduced) and it's still much faster than my PC (Ryzen 4800H, RTX 3050 Ti (laptop version)) (for apps which are optimized for it). I reinstalled VS Code yesterday to use the Universal version, which natively supports Apple Silicon, and it blew my mind at how fast it was. If macOS ever gets too slow I plan to back up my data, wipe my Mac, and install Asahi to give it a longer life. For now, I like to use it for coding and music production. In fact, nearly all my songs made in the last 2 years are made with Logic. I only use the free trial and re-download it every 90 days, please don't think I'm that rich :P However I'm not an Apple fanboy anymore like I was when I bought it, and I… kind of prefer Windows? It might be because I use my PC more, and only take my Mac with me when I want to go outside with it, but I'm overall still more comfy with Windows, and I'm too scared to mess something up if I install Linux on my PC.
