SO: This weekly is about…. music!
You'll be making a ✨ cover! ✨
(or original song if you really want to, but it's not required because that's quite hard haha)
If you don't feel comfortable singing, you can also do an instrumental cover, but singing is probably easiest. But we're not judging your voice here
also /please/ don't just take recordings of other people that's just seriously uncool.
Part 1:
easy section :>
choosing a song - now this may be easy for you, maybe you already have a song in mind that you love, but I'm going to force you to think about other songs. Write a list of the top 10+ songs you would like to sing. (include the artist)
For example:
1: Love story - Taylor swift
2: Shake it off - taylor swift
3: all too well - taylor swift
4: Red - taylor swift
5: You belong with me - taylor swift
etc, you get it, until you have at least 10
(yes I'm a swiftie okay-)
Now, choose your favorite that you definitely want to sing/play out of that list.
Part 2:
Choose at least 2 of these prompts to write about your song choice:
1. Write as if you are in the perspective of the person singing - what's happening? Did the person just… realize the meaning of their life? Who knows? FoR example, taylor swift love story, write as if you are taylor, or the guy in that song. If there isn't really a “story” make one up! If it's a classical instrumental cover, make a story to the music - what do you hear in the music? Does this part sound mad, or joyful, etc? Write at least 200 words.
2. Write about the meaning/message of the piece. Is it trying to show hope, or love, or tragedy? Why? How can you prove this in the music? Think dEeP like you're in English class- what's the tHeMe? If you have a classical piece this is too hard for, think about the mood of the song and how you know that - ex. “In the part of the song where it gets really low and fast, it's really angry at something.” For all of your music (classical or whatever else,) if there's a title of the song, how is it portrayed in the music? Write at least 200 words.
3. Think about the opposite of the song, and write about what it might be like. If the subject of the song is in a super happy moment, what if the opposite happened - like if a really important person was reunited with them, what if they were separated forever, or one passed away? In classical, you could think of the opposite mood of the song. Write at least 200 words
4. Compare and contrast! Write down five songs that are very similar to the one you chose, and 5 that are like the opposite of your song. Now, write 100+ words on why the similar songs are similar, and 100 words on why the contrasting songs are different.
Part 3:
it's finally time for…. ✨ recording! ✨
take at least 3 takes of your song - this might seem like a lot, but wait to see how long it takes to get a good one. If you get more than one good one, great! Choose your favorite tape and keep it.
now there's that scratch problem with it not saving long audio files - just select half of your clip, and click (at the top) copy to new. Then, delete it from the previous clip. If your song is on the longer side, you may have to do this again and have 3 clips. (hopefully nobody is doing all too well 10 minute version
)
now, (if needed/you want, but it makes it better,) sync it up with a background track. Find a karaoke version and then time it to your original recording. you can also have it in the background as you record singing, but it might be harder to hear it, but easier to time.
listen to your recordings a couple times and be proud
part 3.5 - BONUS! (optional) worth 100 EXTRA GEMS if you do it
“oOohH waterfall what is this bonus section?” you ask? ehehehD
this bonus part is for adding ✨ hARMONY! ✨ (ooOoOOohHhh)
it's optional because it can be hard for some people, and it wouldn't be fair if they can't do it. but if you try this, it'll sound so much cooler and you get extra gems sooo-
a little extra recording for an amazing effect - harmony adds /SO MUCH/ to a cover -like seriously 10x better :0 you'd be surprised - but when the harmony kicks in it;s always like omg wowwww-
sO think thirds bc those are always great- or octaves, for something a little easier to keep up with. Find specific parts where you want to add harmony for a little ✨ sparkle ✨ if you can't find a spot or make harmony yourself, you can listen to the original version to find where the singer already added harmony! Most of the time, they have added some harmony here or there that you can use. But don't worry if you can't, this is optional and only 100 gems.
layer your harmony on top, and bOoM you have harmony :)
okay, that was a fun bonus round- now:
Part 4: final part yay

we need a thumbnail! or just art to put in your project lol- (don't ask this is a weekly so we include all the stuff we can)
create a piece of art for your thumbnail/just in your project! It should be related to your song (and put some effort into it - even if you're not the best artist, that's perfectly fine!)
You have to spend at least 20 minutes drawing a piece of art to go with your cover.
this is the thumbnail, but please don't just put text on pictures (no nooo, doesn't count-) actually draw, although it can have text on it (like the title etc - or idk, ducks eat cheese, irdc have fun, it's camp)
Once you've finished this, you're done!
How to submit the weekly
In the main cabin, please leave a link to your:

“Oh, hello!” A voice chanted, from the party. /Ugh/ I thoughed as she approached me. /Why her out of all people? She's just so annoying, arghhh/
It was too late to stop her, though. She was already 3 inches from my face.
“Hey!” Ana said, almost hitting me in the face as she waved. “I never seen you before!”
“Umm…don't you have my number?” I gritted out.
Ana frowned. “Hmmm….” She mumbled as she checked her phone, scrolling through her contacts. “Oh! I'm so sorry, I must've forgot!”
I said nothing. Hopefully she will take the hint and end this conversation now.
It did not work. She continued rambling on.
“Hey, did you enter the raffle for the party? Their giving out awesome prizes like iphones, ipads, eek!! Y'know, I think I'll win something since my mom, when she was like-my age won 2,000 dollars in a lottery, so don't you think I will win one too? OMG I am sooo excited!! On a scale on one to ten, how likely do you think that I will win? 10 right? Hopefully your right! Cross my fingers for me. Hmm… what do you think I will win? I would like a…”
I barely managed to tune her annoying voice out. She isn't even thinking about me and how I just want peace and silence!
“Listen,” I said. I can barely stand her rambling anymore. “I have to-”
I was saved from making an excuse as a man wearing a suit went up the stage and yelled “Hello, fellow ladies and gentlemen!” in a microphone. “We hope that you guys are having a blast at this party! But, now it's time to take a break and announce the winners of our raffles!”
“Now, the winner of the iphone raffle is…” The man put his hand in a jar filled with paper slips, and took one out. “Mary Sue! Come up to the stage to receive your prize!”
A girl with shiny black hair wearing a blazing red dress walked up and took the phone.
“Next, the winner of the the ipad raffle is…” He took a paper slip from another jar and read, “Lynx Mink! Come up to the stage.”
A brown haired girl walked up the stage and took the ipad.
“The last prize which is $5,000 goes to…” He took a random paper slip from the last jar and read “upsahl!” I smirked at Ana, and walked up on the stage. “What would you like to say?”
I smiled and took the microphone. “This is to the people I don't like.”

part 3:
The opposite of this song would most likely be about people that the singer likes. instead of the singer being in a conversation with a person they don't like and at a (formal?) party, the song will probably be in an informal place, like a park, chatting with their friends. In addition, instead of the tone being a bit like a monotone voice, the opposite of this song will have more emotions in the singer's voice, especially positive ones, like happiness and energetic tones. In the song, it states that the singer is stuck in a one way conversation. However, the opposite would most likely be the singer having a back and forward conversation with their favorite person in the world. The singer would probably enjoy being at the park(?) as contrast in the original song, where UPSAHL tone and lyrics make it sound like she absolutely /hated/ being at the party(?). The lyrics also suggest that UPSAHL is a bit lonely, since if she can only talk to people she doesn't like, so I presume the opposite of that would be the singer having a lot of friends to not make themselves lonely. Overall, the opposite of this song will just mainly consisting of the singer talking to people that she likes.

After doing some research on the meaning of the song I’m covering, it seems to be about being reckless, selfish, angry, (and violent as well, destructive perhaps? That word could fit the meaning behind this song as well, because the song is titled ‘Wrecking Ball’, and wrecking balls are known for causing, well, destruction, leaving a quite ‘violent’, per se, outcome-). Adding onto this, the recklessness some people feel is more of an ‘I don’t care’ kind of thing and could also be interpreted as an ‘Honestly, I just act this way because nobody can stop me! And I like that!’ kind of thing.
It could also be more of a personal thing. The title of the song, Wrecking Ball’, and the word ‘wreck’ can be connected in a way. Maybe the person acts this way because they’re a wreck, in more than one way. An emotional wreck. Maybe this person’s life can be considered a mess, and the only way they can think about going at it is by being destructive and thinking that violence is the answer to almost everything. This could be because they aren’t in the right state of mind at that exact moment.
I caught something in the lyrics! (1:14)
Maybe this person has a friend (or significant other, but who knows?) that they are trying to convince to be a little reckless. To find the small ounce of joy in tearing these things around them apart.

Prom Queen is primarily about insecurities and comparing yourselves to others. The opposite of this song would be someone who was happy with themselves. Someone who smiled when they looked in the mirror, someone who was confident and looked forward to each day. Someone who didn't compare themselves to others, someone who was happy with who they are. Someone who people loved for who they were. The opposite of Prom Queen would be someone who is happy with the body they see in the mirror. Someone who doesn't think they have to change to get people to like them. Prom Queen is about someone who wishes they could change, it's about someone who wishes they were different, someone who is hard on themselves for doing things they shouldn't feel bad about such as eating. The opposite of Prom Queen would be someone who eats whatever they want, whenever they want, without guilt. Someone who doesn't care about how many calories they consume, someone who doesn't care what they're eating. Someone who is happy with who they are. Someone who is confident in their own body. Someone who doesn't want to be somebody else.

Part 2:
1. Write about the meaning/message of the piece.
In my perssonal opinion, I belive that dandelions is about a person, someone who is finding love within another person. This person is basically in a feild of dandelions “wishing on everyone” (every dandelion) that the person they love is their true love. In turnt, the message of this song is a love song that is trying to say that they hope that the one they have a crush on or whatnot is theirs. The song also says “I think that you are the one for me” which is basicallys saying that the person finding love has a felling that the one they love is truly theirs. The pre-chorus also says, “And I've heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime. And I'm pretty sure that you are that love of mine”. (Which it personally my favorite line XD) The line is saying that they are positive that you', or the person that they love, is for them. The song constantly is talking about how the person they love is the one that they not only want, but is the person they need. In short, the song “Dandelions” by Ruth B, Is a love song for how shes excited to be together with this person they love.

2. Think about the opposite of the song
I would say the oppisite of the song “Dandelions” would be a breakup song. Because like I said above, this song is more of alove song to their future true love. There would be lines as the oppisite such as, “I've heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime. But im pretty sure you're not that love of mine” and, “Im in a feild of dandelions wishing on everyone that you're not mine”. It would also be the oppisite of the verses in the beginning and middle. Instead of admiring the love and things your love is, you would point out all the rude and annoying things your once love did. There would be lines saying that “I want to leave you” and “I dont want to love you anymore” and more lines like that. All in all, I prefer the song as a love song but would definetly like to hear the song as a breakup song. Dandelions is a love song and focuses on wanting to be in a relation ship while the oppisite would be breakup song pointing out one end of the relationship. Similar to “You belong with me” by taylor swift. This would be before they got married and be more of a breakup of song between gf and bf.

Prompt 1:
I just met peter pan's shadow in my room and he's asking me to follow him. He's telling me all about neverland and the awesome and bad parts about it!
I just learned about Wendy, Captain Hook, and him Peter Pan! He's taking me to neverland with him and the sand is sooooo soft beneath my feet! I look around and see a big forest! He shows me the lost boys and everyone else in Neverland (except for Captain Hook) and tells me all about Neverland! All his friends are soooooo cool! There Wendy and her brothers, the Lost Boys, and tinkerbell! Even Captain hook is cool! Am I going to stay? No idea. but I'm now a lost boy from neverland usually keeping up with Peter Pan and when we're bored we play in the woods, running away from captain hook. I play with the other lost boys, knowing I'll probably never find love again, but knowing I'm safe with the other lost boys. Now that I'm here, I probably won't leave but I'm still worried about my friends back home. Well I guess I'll just stay here until I know where my friends are then bring them back to neverland with me. (213 words)

I just met peter pan's shadow in my room and he's asking me to follow him. He's telling me all about neverland and the awesome and bad parts about it!
I just learned about Wendy, Captain Hook, and him Peter Pan! He's taking me to neverland with him and the sand is sooooo soft beneath my feet! I look around and see a big forest! He shows me the lost boys and everyone else in Neverland (except for Captain Hook) and tells me all about Neverland! All his friends are soooooo cool! There Wendy and her brothers, the Lost Boys, and tinkerbell! Even Captain hook is cool! Am I going to stay? No idea. but I'm now a lost boy from neverland usually keeping up with Peter Pan and when we're bored we play in the woods, running away from captain hook. I play with the other lost boys, knowing I'll probably never find love again, but knowing I'm safe with the other lost boys. Now that I'm here, I probably won't leave but I'm still worried about my friends back home. Well I guess I'll just stay here until I know where my friends are then bring them back to neverland with me. (213 words)

Do you know that feeling you get when you have a soft spot that hasn’t quite… been revealed yet? And then do you know that feeling that comes to you when the sweetest guy just passes by you and stares at you with those lush eyes? Direct. Eye contact… Ahhhhh. I’m seriously living for it. I’m seriously walking into a love story. It’s destined love, it’s my perfect soulmate…
“Oh hello, uhm… do you mind if I sit with you today?”
“Are you going to the picnic this Sunday?”
“Hey, do you maybe plan on going to the school dance?”
These were all signs. Like, literal signs that this relationship would turn into something special. And I suppose, it did that one summer day.
“Will you go with me to the hill, for a picnic? It’ll be something special. I promise.” Was what he said. I had worn my favorite yellow dress sparkled with iridescent glitters and rode on his bike when he picked me up, my face a whole ray of sunshine. He had something in his smile that day.
“Close your eyes… I want this to be something you’ll remember forever.” I shut my eyes and leaned on his shoulder until the bike came to a pause. My feet gently brushed what seemed like grass, and my heart was beating. “You can look now!” I opened my eyes slowly, the blinding light of the sun shining down on my skin, and a field of dandelions in front of me. I breathed, then breathed again. Then actually breathed.
“I wish that we will be a couple one day.” He said, giving me those eyes I had been attracted to from the first at.

It was a typical Tuesday night, and I was texting my best friend, who lives next door. I tapped my phone multiple times, trying to find his messages. Maybe we could hang out at the park next week. It was the week before prom, and the park was his favorite place. It would be the perfect place to ask him to go with me. If he wasn't asked already. I know he would save the opportunity for me, right? Maybe? Possibly?
Then I remembered–he had a one and only. And it wasn't me.
I overheard a sudden yell from his house. It was his girlfriend. Again. She's going off about some joke he'd said. She doesn't get his humor like I do. And she'd never, ever know his story like I do…
The next week, we were at the park. He had cooled down, but he still wasn't happy. I hadn't seen his smile in a while since he got with his girlfriend. But with me, he was gloriously grinning. Laughing on a park bench, I thought, hey, isn't this easy? He said he's fine, but I know him better than that. I don't know what he's doing with a girl like that.
I inhale. “If you could just see that I'm the one who understands you… I've been here all along, so why can't you see?” I plead. “I know, she wears high heels and short skirts and is Cheer Captain, but you know that you belong with me.” He gasps. “I've been standing by, waiting at your back door…” I continue. “All this time, you've been with the wrong person… how could you not know?”
He whispers, “I know. You belong with me.”

In the song, it states that the protagonist was trying to get a person to notice her and be with her. However, the person the protagonist wanted to be with already had a girlfriend, and the protagonist had to prove themself right to achieve what they wanted. It says in the song, “What you're looking for has been here the whole time, if you could see that I'm the one who understands you, been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me.” This explains how the protagonist is trying to prove themselves right. In the end, the protagonist got what they wanted. Another example is when it said the protagonist was better for the person they wanted, and not their girlfriend. This is also proving themself right. The theme is also about love, because it's about romance, and the protagonist is trying to be with someone, and thinking the person's girlfriend isn't right for them and the protagonist is the correct match. Personally, I think this song is about caring for someone, and telling them it’ll be alright. The opposite of this song would be something like enemies, betrayal, that sort of thing. Some opposite songs that come to mind are Bad Blood, Look What You Made Me Do, and Better than Revenge, all by Taylor Swift. If I had to put it in a story, it would be something like this.
I throw my phone across the room. Anger and fury builds inside of me. Why with a million choices did she have to this to me? I never betrayed her. I never posted embarrassing photos of her online. No, we weren’t friends anymore. If she’d wanted to be friends, she could have walked away from everything. She could have just not done anything. She could have ignored it all. Instead, she stirred a pot best not stirred. She really knows how to get under my skin, I thought. Well, if she made the first move, I can’t just walk away. Hate and revenge taking over me, I walk over to my desk and start hatching a plan. A plan for revenge. A plan to let that girl know how much better I can do. A few hours later, I finally come up with a rock-solid way to take care of her. You should never have gotten on my bad side, I think, and smile. A real evil smile.

She’d never met her mom, who had died in labor 6 years ago. She might never see her dad again. The thought of her going to an orphanage… no. I won’t let her. I’ll take her in, as soon as I turn eighteen tomorrow. I’ll sing her lullabies, and tuck her in every night. No matter how many lives they’ll break, Avery will not be one of them. I took an oath that night. I vowed to never let war break me apart. I vowed to never let war break us apart. I vowed, harder than anything, that we’ll be safe and sound.
