Why is Scratch so strict about flies?
Scratch lets you only use images that are less than 512KB and less than 500x500 pixels for studio thumbnails and profile pictures. Who else wants this limit to be removed?

As to not cause strain on the servers, perhaps.

Why is Scratch so strict about flies?
It's not that simple, it's in place for a reason (as well as the highly lossy compression of a lot of those images)
FYI, you spelt “files” wrong

The limit is there so the scratch team's servers do not crash and if I am correct the biggest PFPs are shown is 90x90 if not used as a image in the forums or other websites. (if used as a image in the forums or other websites it is 500x500[citation needed])

I think the Scratch Team is strict about posting content about flies is because they really, REALLY hate flies.

Firstly, this topic belongs in Questions about Scratch.
And to answer your question, this is so the servers have less strain and so that lower-end devices don't take a long time to load or crash outright.

Maybe the limit should just be increased to 5MB and 1000x100 images, because most images are in that criteria

Profile pictures are not part of that criteria. They are meant to be small and the largest size they are displayed at is 90 by 90, so storing a 1000 by 1000 image is just incredibly wasteful. Why is Scratch so strict about flies?
Yes, it really does make me feel a bit upset when I find a profile picture I like, then come to find it doesn't fit. So I have to go back, and resize my photo.

The limits are in place as to not cause a big strain on scratch's servers. Most of the time, I can easily fit my images under 500x500 and 512 kb. You just need to have the right tools to compress and resize them.
Also, 500x500 itself is kind of a strain, considering that the highest resolution pfps are ever shown is 90x90. Try resizing an image down to around 100x100 or 250x250 if you're having issues with the limits.
