Carla was doing origami again. She furrowed her brow as she tried to fold the small corners of the paper and hopefully make it look like the pretty pictures in her origami instruction book. Finally, she sighed and looked down at her sleeping Siamese cat.
“Sorry, Freyja,” She apologised, ignoring the pang of the embarrassment of talking to her cat. “I don't think origami is working out for me.”
Freja opened an eye and purred back into sleep. Carla sighed.
“Oh well, I'll keep working at it.”
After a few more moments of fiddling around with the paper, the girl finally held up her finished piece. It was supposed to be a balloon, but right now it didn't… look like anything.
Freyja woke up and stretched, before looking at Carla and her origami “balloon”.
“Miaow“ Freyja walked over to Carla and sat in front of her. Carla sighed again, this time more forcefully.
”Freyja, you want lunch again?“
”Miaow“
Carla looked down at her finished origami piece. maybe she was supposed to blow it? She raised the very tip and blew as hard as she could.
Freyja jumped as if to say ”It's huge!“
Carla nodded. ”I used bigger paper for it.“ She glanced at all of her other origami creations in a small heap of messily folded paper. ”Those guys are way too small. Alright, let's get your third lunch.“
She got up and went for the kitchen downstairs with Freyja at her heels.
The kitchen, on that grey afternoon, seemed almost lifeless. Everything was tinged in stormy greys, the only source of light being the clouds outside of the window. Carlar flicked a switch on, and the room was suddenly bathed in a golden, sunnier light.
”That's better,“ Carla mused to her cat. ”Everything always feels better when it's brighter,”
She hummed Celestial why preparing cat food. The girl started to feel, if only a bit, better about this boring day.
“Even stranger to think” She continues to Freyja. “That even boring days can make you feel good!”
She dished the bowl of little cat kibbles and in front of her cat and Freya immediately jumped towards it and slurped it up hungrily, making little clinking noises with her collar and the bowl.
And just then the two heard a small patter against the windows.
Carla smiled. “See, now we got the aesthetic background rain!” She chuckled to herself, knowing that she is not making any sense.
And that's okay, she thought to herself. And that's okay.
Freyja looked up from her bowl and stared at the rain now pounding the windows outside. Carla was watching too, still humming that same song and watching the raindrops race each other on the windowpanes.
Carla looked down at her cat.
“Look like you'll have to stay inside and do origami too!” Carla chirped. Freyja was puzzled. Carla wasn't usually this cheerful. It must be the rain, or the origami, or the song, or all three. Freyja meowed, and slunk away, leaving Carla to chase after her, calling “Wait for me!”
But Freyja didn't mind. And neither did Carla.

Cabin Wars Thingy // 300 words // Sky: Children of the Light fanfiction or something
Used the words torn, rose, perks, quirks, and camera, provided by @autokarrect–
Ermint was flying through the Starlight desert, her green cape spread like a flower around her. She was to meet her friend Vortex in the garden there. She glanced towards Eden, where the sky was practically torn open from the corruption there, before landing by her friend. They were staring into space, listening to the soft music coming from the glass-cased rose by their side. “Hello,” Ermint whispered, sitting by them. Vortex looked towards her. “Hello,” they replied. “There are a lot of perks to being here, hm?” Ermint said, looking at the stars. “Being able to see more stars than just our constellations, the big moon, all of the pretty purple sand…” Vortex nodded silently, stroking their rose’s translucent container. Ermint’s friend had many quirks, one being their extensive knowledge of their world. They had been to every map shrine, knew how to break through the fabric of reality to perform incredible feats, and had been to Eden many more times than Ermint thought was possible. Maybe that was why they were so quiet all of the time, constantly pondering their purpose in the world, wondering why the spirits had become increasingly active, if the krills were slowly getting smarter over time, even why skykids had suddenly become immune to damage from dramatic wall crashes a long time ago. “Would…you like to take a picture?” Ermint suggested, trying to break the awkward side. “Sure,” Vortex responded, standing up. The two turned away from the small building on one end of the garden, and with a simple flash from Ermint’s invisible camera, they had yet another memory together. Vortex picked up their rose and secured it on their back, before offering a hand to Ermint. She accepted, the two flying into the purple skies onto whatever adventure Vortex had planned.

Dearest Elfiend,
It has come to my attention that despite being the early hours of the morning, just past 3 am, to be exact, you have yet to sleep for the night. Or perhaps, at this point in time, one could simply say early morning. In any case, i wish to inform you that it would be in your best interests to sleep immediately, regardless of this geo mock you seem to have. Whatever it is, rest, yes rest dear Elfiend, assured that it can be dealth with in the morning, regardless of what you might currently think.
As your canonical wife, I believe that it is my duty to look out for your well being, and regardless of any civic obligation, i care about you as a dear friend, and would like to see you happy, rest rested, and taking care of yourself. This does, of course, include sleeping at a reasonable hour, and while I think we can agree that we are long past that point, as it is roughly three in morning at the moment, i would hope that you sleep as soon as possible, in this case being now.
As it is apparent that you are still reading this letter, I would like to encourage you to stop doing so, and simply sleep – it’s far more important to be well rested than it is to finish reading Miss Moonlit’s very rambly letter at this hour. Sleep, as our good friend Birdi will happily tell you, in vital to our health in many ways – we heal best while we are asleep, and the same can be said for growing! Dreams, whether or not we remember them, help us to process our experiences, memories, thoughts, and emotions, and are often quite enjoyable for the fantastical experiences and conversations they something offer, though I’m sad to say I rarely remember my own dreams. Sleep is also vital to our ability to concentrate on school and work, such as your geo mock – statistics would dictate that you will do significantly better on this mock exam if you take the time to get a good night’s rest, or whatever alternative is available to you at this point, and then work through it, as opposed to doing it now, at approximately three in the morning.
There’s also the matter of the broom to be discussed. Perhaps you might consider that the kind hearted broom bearer by the name of Miss Birdi may come after you, should you not fix your sleep habits, and the stories that are told about her broom, are, well, legendary! It’s always possible that they are merely tales told to scare the children into behaving, and Birdi is quite a compassionate and understanding person, but I personally wouldn’t want to test the fables :>
I would like to hope that you are asleep, and not continuing on to this section of this impromptu letter as this point, but as it seems that you are not, I bid you good luck on your geo mock, and would like to encourage you to rest shortly thereafter completing said mock, tempting as the worlds of fictional and real literature may be, as are the hidden kingdom in which the kittens might sleep, the chaotic secret homes of the celestial conversations, and whatever else it is that might distract you from what really matters right now, sleep.
Good night!

Weekly Two - Mental Health and Inspiration

Part One
For this activity I attended my friends’ orchestra concert. I’m in band and our concert was the night before, but I still went to watch the string orchestra perform to support my friends (and also because the music teacher gives extra credit when we attend other groups’ concerts). I’m really glad I did - I haven’t heard my school’s orchestra play together as a group before, and they sounded amazing! The blend of their sound was honestly way better than band’s, though my best friend would beg to differ (she’s in orchestra and swears that they aren’t as good). After the concert, I congratulated my friends and we hung out together for a bit longer. It was one of my friend’s birthday, so her family brought cupcakes (they were delicious!) and we all shared them. It was such a fun night and while I was initially a bit on the fence about attending (did I really want to sit through a whole concert? Did I really want to give up an hour and a half that could be spent working on my history project, which was very unfinished and due the following day?) I’m extremely glad that I did. I don’t hang out with my friends a lot outside of school and it was really wonderful to be able to. And don’t worry, I did finish the history project (without even staying up late!).

Part Two
Spoilers for Crooked Kingdom ahead!!
I read a chapter of Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. It is the first chapter written from Inej’s perspective in the book, and as she is one of my favorite characters I was excited to read it. At this point in the novel, she has been taken hostage by Jan Van Eck and is attempting to escape. Her sheer strength and determination to survive is as always amazing to me; the way she found an escape even with her limbs bound, eyes blindfolded, and the threat of discovery is just incredible. Inej’s courage, fortitude, and resourcefulness - all the things that make her dangerous - are very admirable and my favorite things about her character. One of the best scenes in Six of Crows is when she is climbing up the shaft in the Ice Court and reflecting on her future purpose. Her moments of vulnerability in this chapter were also important, of course. The most frightened she’s ever been in the books so far (aside from flashbacks) is, I’m pretty sure, the scene where Van Eck threatens to shatter her legs. She was desperate and terrified in that moment. Not angry, not resigned, not plotting a way out, just scared beyond belief. And I was scared for her, because without her legs, the skills she’s built her survival around and even parts of her identity would be taken from her. Even more heart-wrenching was her other great fear, that Kaz would have no interest her once she lost her acrobatic abilities. Of course that isn’t true - the reader knows exactly how much he cares about her - but she genuinely believes it and it hurts to read. At the same time, though, I loved this chapter because it presented her in this way; no character is invulnerable or unshakable, even the incredible Inej. It’s easy to forget but important to remember, and I’m very glad that Leigh Bardugo has. I’m a huge fan of how she writes her characters in general, and I’m excited to see where she takes the Crows and their respective journeys throughout the rest of the book!

Part Three
Myla leaned against the wall, shaking.
She had worked so long and hard for this. Her music was extraordinary - she had always known that - but some secret part of her had always wondered. Was it good enough? Was she good enough? She could tear down walls of solid stone, bend light, conjure up storms so devastating they destroyed an entire city. She had done things both beautiful and terrible. Perhaps her good deeds outweighed her crimes. Was such a thing even possible? She didn’t know. All she knew was that everything had been for this moment.
Her entire world, her purpose was at stake. Her life was at stake, and she couldn’t even pick herself up off the floor.
She closed her eyes. Suppose someone found her like this? Her, Myla Corvelleck. The greatest music-bender to have been born in three centuries. She was invincible, unshakable. The world had done everything to stop her, and yet she had come out on top. She was ruthless in her capabilities - there was nothing that she could not and would not do. Myla was far from the authority at the Starlit Palace, but the fear she instilled in all those around her was enough. Even her superiors were wary of the control she had over the world. She saw it in their eyes, the way they kept their distance, gave her the most dangerous assignments, treated her with a sort of cold caution. She knew it because of what they were allowing her to do now.
A bargain with Death. It was perhaps the most ambitious and dangerous undertaking a music-bender could assume. Myla was perfectly aware of everything that she risked by trying to make such a deal. She also understood just how much could be gained. Twenty years. Twenty years since Cassie left her. Twenty years of pain, and anger, and an impossible ambition driving her forward. Twenty years of terrible deeds and miracles. Now here she was, the chance she had been waiting for ready for the taking.
It’s up to you to grab ahold.
Footsteps sounded in the hall outside. Somehow, the approaching sound jolted her back into her own body. Shakily, she rose to her feet. The ground felt unsteady, but she managed to stay upright. Her hands clutched at the skirt of her dark concert gown as the door opened.
“Ms. Corvelleck? He will see you now.”
Her throat was dry. “I’ll be out in a moment,” Myla croaked. The words tasted odd in her mouth.
The young attendant nodded, stepping nervously out. “I, um, wouldn’t keep him waiting.”
“Just a few seconds,” she whispered as the door closed. You can do this. It’s just a song. Just another bit of music bending. No different from all the other miracles you’ve worked. You just have an audience this time, that’s all.
She hated this feeling of helplessness. Of all the times she had to lose her nerve, did it really have to be now?
Remember Cassie. You’re doing this for Cassie.
Something inside her solidified at the thought. Cassie. Stay strong for Cassie.
She straightened, pulling herself away from the wall. Her hands were still shaking slightly, damp with panicked sweat. She forced them still against the silk of her skirt. They’d dry before she had to play, somehow. She couldn’t have them slipping over the piano keys.
Slowly, she took a few steps toward the door. She stopped with her fingers on the handle and took a deep, rattling breath. Then she pushed it open.
I’m coming to save you, Cassie.

Part 1 - 158/100 words
I read Strawberry Seafoam for 15 minutes! It's a Webtoon about mermaids with a touch of superhero-iness. It's amazing. The art is astoundingly beautiful and it makes me feel very happy. One thing I don't see nearly enough of in books is girl power, but this book has it and it's amazing. It's a very relaxing yet suspenseful read and it makes me so happy. It's a Webtoon that isn't inappropriate for Scratch, which is kind of rare to come across if you ask me. Of course, there are a few four letter words that start with d that are said, but besides that, it's amazing. The swears make me feel kind of disgusted at the Webtoon because I don't swear, I use words instead of swearing, like darn, dang, flip, shoot, etc. I feel like other words could have been used in their place. But I love still it and I highly recommend that people read it.

Part 2 - 125/100 words
I watched Seinfeld (Season 5, Episode 16) and my reflection on this is that it's funny but for both good and bad reasons. It's funny because it jokes about things that most people can relate to, such as getting to know the people you want to love being hard and also placing second when you want to be first and thought you deserved it. It makes fun of people in order to make it a comedy; teasing about people's height, health, and disabilities. This is kind of sad, but I also really needed something to cheer me up and make me laugh, which it did. The show was very predictable, too, such as George overreacting, Jerry failing at things, and Kramer just being an idiot.

Part 3 - 522/500 words
Elaine is sitting on Jerry's old, ratty couch in his living room. She's on he phone scrolling through a Webtoon- Strawberry Seafoam. She chuckles softly to herself. Wow, technology sure has advanced in the last few decades! Elaine had time travelled to the future, so she was still the same age she was in 1989 as she was now, in 2023. Her friends- Jerry, George, and Kramer- were still living in the exact same place, but now they were older.
She groaned as the online comic came to an end. It ended in a cliffhanger! Argh! Now she'd have to wait a whole week until the next episode came out! Sighing, she stands up and stretches, her nose twitching as she smelled the apartment. Ugh, it reeked of chips and beer.
Suddenly, a portal opened and Elaine was sucked inside it! She screeched and landed in a huge body of water- the ocean! Coughing and gagging, she opened her eyes and flipped her tail. Wait- she had a tail?! Her eyes darted around looking at everything, taking in the view. Well, not exactly taking in the view since she was a bit panicked about where she was and how this happened.
Her eyes landed on the portal- a blue, green, and purple swirling mass of light and water. It slowly closed and Elaine's eyes widened with shock and panic. “No no no!” she shrieked and swam towards it. But sadly, she wasn't used to swimming yet in her fancy, shiny tail. “No!” she whined as the portal closed and flickered away. It was like it wasn't even there- fish swam past her not even batting an eye. She moaned and rubbed her eyes. This couldn't be happening to her! She had to get back to her life! She had so many plans. Well. She didn't actually. She had only time travelled to 2023 two days ago. Aaand now she had travelled to this ocean.
Oh boy, what was she going to do now? All of a sudden, she started to choke. She… she couldn't breathe! Mermaids could breathe underwater but she couldn't! She grasped her throat and swam up towards the surface, her eyes closed in concentration. Her head broke the surface and she gasped for air, sucking in as much as she could.
When she opened her eyes, she was back on Jerry's couch! What had happened? She stood up and ran to Jerry, whose back was turned to her. “Jerry! Jerry! How long was I gone for?”
Jerry tilted his head, still not turning around, as he was busy writing something down on a notepad.
“Uh, you weren't. It's been ten minutes since I last saw you?”
Elaine scrunched up her face. “Uh- what?”
Jerry turned around. “You said you were taking a nap…?”
Elaine staggered backwards. Jerry looked the same as he did in 1989. She blinked her eyes rapidly. Huh. It must have all been a dream… but how? She sighed and laughed.
“Ah, yeah. Right. Sorry, I just had a crazy dream….” she trailed off, taking off her glasses and rubbing her eyes. “Who knows… who knows.”

I closed my eyes, wishing I could be anywhere, anywhere but here. This world, it’s beautiful but broken, like stained glass shattered across this floor, a beautiful work of art turned deadly. It’s amazing how many people think the can do whatever they’d like here – in a world already in shards, why not crush the life left standing? Why not give a hope to the future, why destroy when we can help create? Someone out there, they clearly don’t agree – enjoyment, cruel as it may be, seems like by the priority in the world, regardless of the beautiful portrayal of angels it once was.
Somewhere in the distance, a solemn symphony rings out, its soothing cords and enchanting melody calling the lost, those with a home long gone, towards it, bringing life to all within its reaches, an untouchable piece, a song so beautiful no bird could hope to interrupt. Somewhere out there, the blue jay listens, its delicate ears raised ever so slightly in attention, as if it hopes to someday learn the ways of the melodies. Its soars through the air, climbing higher and higher below taking a steep dive down, sweeping the delicate fragrance of the flowers belong along with it. It’s beautiful, enchanting, and well, I can help but wander towards it, hoping that maybe, just maybe, it might lead me to its source, a happier place, somewhere to take me in and call my own. Maybe I’m just a dreamer, but I can’t help but try. A new life, a new world, its always worth a shot.
With a sudden jolt, I step back, struck by a distant memory of the past.
November 28th, 2293 -
“Mama,” my brother whispers, his bright blue eyes glittering with unshed tears. He’s upset, and it’s all my fault. I wanted his chocolate and so, being an impulsive small child, I took it! Of course, he wasn’t remotely pleased at that, so while I counted my chocolates at the table, he ran off to find our mother. As he would, being the tattle tale he was. At the very least, we both grew up… eventually. “Make her give me back my chocolate.”
“My chocolate,” I correct, seeing absolutely nothing wrong with having my chocolate. It was just waiting for me to take it, to claim it as its rightful owner. Why can’t he see that?
Our mother crouches down, looking me in the eyes before whispering, “Can you share some of you chocolate with your brother?”
I nod solemnly, waving him over. Despite my antics, I was a very fair child – I took my neat rows, swept half of them to the side, and handed the other half to my brother, smiling.
Now we can both be happy.
I continue to sprint toward the source of the music, rebounding from the sudden memory. A side affect of the melodies, perhaps. Or a little known after affect of The Shock, the day the world realized that, well, we were going to die. Soon. On December 31th, 2299, the world’s scientistic had come together to tell us of the end. That our world was beyond repair, despite all advancement we had made through the past few centuries – their truly was no hope for us, in the end. In the end, we would all die for our crimes against nature, while perhaps the ocean life would survive. As they should, quite honestly. After all we’ve done to them, receiving little harm in return, they deserve a planet to themselves, no matter what our egotistical selves might say. They deserve a planet filled with beautiful oceans, perhaps a solitary ocean for the aliens to someday discover. They say that somewhere out there, there is another life bearing planet, perhaps two, three, four, a hundred, a thousand, a million – somewhere out there, perhaps the atoms rearranged themselves in such a way that they too might exist in the same way we do, or perhaps a way we could never understand. As humans, we know so little about anything, when you put it in perspective, a perspective we can barely begin to comprehend.

————————————————–
“Oh my oh my, what if I mess up or something! What if I trip? What if I make a fool of myself?” Jane panicked to her dad, Hopper.
“El, you'll be okay, I know it,” Hopper comforted his daughter. He pulled her in for a hug, being careful not to smudge her makeup. Jane didn't like all the makeup or hairspray or fanciness that was going into her wedding with Mike, but she tolerated it. It was her big day! Her family and Mike's had spent so much money on this so she had to go through with it.
“Ack! Okay, okay. I got this. I can do it,” Jane told herself, shaking out her hands. At that moment, Nancy rushes into Jane's room.
“Hey! It's time.” Nancy grabs Jane's hands after seeing her shaking them out. “Hey,” she said softly. “You got this. I know you do. You and my brother belong together- we've all been cheering for you since you were just kids!” Jane smiled.
“Yeah, yeah. I got this!” She took a deep breath before looking up at Hopper. “Ready?” Hopper nods and holds out his arm. Jane takes it and starts towards the door. Nancy hurries to open it. Music starts to play from the organ and the bride begins to walk down the aisle. She puts on a smile, gazing around at all of the couple's friends and family. Mike stood in a pressed suit, smiling at Jane when the two made eye contact. At that moment, all of her worries vanished instantly. She gazed into the eyes of the man she loved. She'd met him so long ago on a dark, rainy night. And even if she hadn't known it all those years ago, Mike and Jane were destined to be together.
She tuned out the whole ceremony, saying her vows and spending the whole time looking into her future husband's eyes. And then it was time for the kiss.
Mike pulled Jane in by her waist, leaned down, and kissed her. The audience started to clap and it was a magical moment.
The two dance the night away, their love pulsing and spreading all over the room.
…three years later…
Jane bit her lip, a stick in her hand. Lately, she'd been feeling nauseous and dizzy, and she'd also missed her periods. She blamed it on the stress of her job, but she went to the store and bought a pregnancy test. And when she tested, it had two lines. She had gasped in excitement and fear, but before she told Mike, she went and saw her doctor. Her doctor had done an ultrasound. The gel on her belly was cold and wet. And then she knew that she was pregnant. She raced home to tell Mike, the test in hand. He wasn't home yet, so she sat on the couch and waited.
When Mike stepped through the door, he hollered “Honey, I'm hoooome!” as he usually did.
“I'm up here on the couch!” Jane shouted back. This was it. This was the moment. Mike's footsteps could be heard coming up the stairs and Jane shivered, shaking out her hands. This was the moment. This was it.
“Hey there, darling,” Mike said, kissing Jane's forehead.
“I-I have something I need to tell you, Mike,” she stuttered. Mike squatted down, staring into Jane's eyes. “I-I'm pregnant,” she said, showing the test. Mike's eyes widened with shock and excitement. “I went to the doctor this morning. And it's confirmed.”
“Oh my gosh! I'm so- this is amazing!” he exclaimed. Mike picked up Jane and spun her around. Jane shrieked, beaming. Mike stopped and pulled her in for a hug. “I'm so excited. We're going to have a family!”
…six months later…
Jane shrieked in pain and agony. “Oh gosh oh gosh! This hurts!”
“Just one more push, come on, Jane, you can do it!” Mike told his wife. Sweat was pooling all around Jane. Giving birth was rather hard. “Yes, yes! That's it!” WIth one final shriek and one final push, a baby fell into the nurse's arms.
“Ah good job, Mrs. Wheeler! You've given birth to a very pretty and healthy baby girl!” the nurse said, quickly wiping off the baby and wrapping her in a blanket. The baby whined and cried. “Shh, shh. Here you go- here's your mommy, dear.” The nurse handed the baby to Jane who held her daughter in her arms for the first time. She immediately felt a connection and love for her daughter.
“Hi! Hi,” she breathed. “Hi, baby. I'm your mommy. Mike! Mike, come see her!” Jane laughed, crying tears of joy and love. The tears dripped down her face and mixed with the sweat that was pooling around her, being absorbed into the paper-y sheet on her bed.
“She-she's beautiful,” Mike whispered. He looked at Jane and Jane looked at him. “Are we going to name her…?” he trailed off. Jane smiled.
“Yes. Her name is Maxine.”
…fifteen years later…
Jane sat at the dining room table, sipping her coffee. It was burning hot, like the rage she was currently feeling. The couple had been married for 18 years now. It was their anniversary tomorrow. Jane hated to do this, but it had to be done. She wanted to be with a man she could trust. One who wouldn't cheat on her and have affairs.
Mike walked in the door, hollering “Honey, I'm home!”
Here goes… Jane thought. “Hey, come here,” she said coldly.
Mike did so with a confused look on his face. “What's wrong, darling?” He leaned in for a kiss but Jane pulled away.
“I… I know where you were last night. I know you were with Erica! And I know you've been with her for the past five years.” She slammed her hands on the table and stood up. “If you don't want to be with me, just say so, darn it! Don't run around behind my back. I know what you've been doing. Nancy told me. You lie to me every single day and it's like you don't care!” Mike tried to get a word in but was quickly shushed. “No! I don't want to hear it! You know what I want? A divorce!” Mike's eyes widened and his jaw dropped.
“W-what? I never did any of that!” he stammered. Another lie.
“I have pictures! I have proof of you doing things with Erica!”
“I have never done that in my life!”
“Friends don't lie!” Jane screamed. “Friends don't freaking lie! Now get out of my house- out!” Mike scrambled to get his things and left. Jane collapsed in her chair, sobbing.
…three months later…
“And with that, the divorce is settled. Legal guardianship of Miss Maxine Nancy Wheeler goes to Mr. Michael Wheeler,” the judge said and banged his gavel.
Jane sat down in her chair, tears rolling down her cheeks. Nancy came and hugged her. “Shh, shh. He's a jerk, he doesn't deserve Maxine. You do. You do. You're better than him,” Nancy comforted Jane.
Jane walked out of the courthouse, her head hung in shame. She wasn't even allowed to say goodbye to her daughter. She didn't know if she'd ever see Max again. She resented Mike. She hated him. Memories of the two flashed in her head. Their first meeting, saving Will, their first kiss, the snow ball.
And it all meant nothing to Mike.
…ten years later…
“Jane El Hopper was a beloved mother to Maxine and daughter to Jim. She was well loved by many and she will be well missed. She died too soon and she will always be remembered.”
Jane's coffin is lowered into the ground as the wedding officiator finishes his speech. After the crowd clears out, Mike approaches Jane's coffin.
“I'm sorry,” he whispered. “You were right. Friends don't lie. And I did. I let you down. I'm so very sorry. I l-love you, Jane. I love you.”

weekly #2
825 words total
Part one - relaxing activity:
(109 words)
For my relaxing activity, I brushed Nuggs (the horse I usually ride at my stables). It was really sunny today (which was weird, it’s not even summer anymore - like, we have a really grey cloudy average summer, and then we suddenly have a day like this? Weather makes no sense) and the horses liked chilling in the sun. Nuggs was really dusty so I used a soft body brush (he’s a bit sensitive) to get the dust and sweat off, which was really satisfying. It’s almost moulting season so he was really fluffy too. Brushing horses is always really fun and satisfying, and makes me feel happy and relaxed.
Part two - consuming media:
(127 words)
For part two, I listened to Epic the musical (troy saga). I read the lyrics while listening to the songs as well, to get a better understanding of the songs and what’s happening in the story. I love listening to musical songs because of how they tell a story, and how the emotion and plot is portrayed through the lyrics and singing. I also love when there are harmonies (different people singing at the same time). Epic is so interesting - I usually can’t listen to songs without doing something else at the same time, but I was so invested in what was going on in the song and the story that it was easy to concentrate. I always feel so inspired after listening to musical songs, too.
Part three - story:
(829 words total, 589 excluding all the song lyrics)
(i wrote an epic fanfic based on the ‘horse and the infant’ lyrics <3)
“Alright, my brothers, listen closely –”
The Greek battalion was gathered around a crackling bonfire, watching it spit embers into the starless night sky. Their captain, Odysseus, was leaning against the almost 20 foot tall wooden horse. Though his voice was soft, every soldier was listening. This might be the day it all ended. This might be the day they got to go home.
“Tonight we make the Trojans pay.”
A shout of agreement went up from the ranks.
“Ten years of war they’ve killed us slowly-
but now we’ll be the ones who slay!”
They roared as one, the soldiers hungry with anticipation.
“Think of your wives and your children, your family's wonder where you've been
They're growing old and yet you're still here –
Do what I say and you'll see them again!”
A unanimous cry of “Yes sir!”
Odysseus began to explain the plan again, leaning forward in the dimness, the firelight flickering across his face.
“Diomedes - you’ll lead the charge. Agamemnon - you’ll be flanking the guards. Meneleus will let the rest of us through the gates so we can take the city, Teucer will be on the watch for ambush. We can’t all fight, some of you will need to stay back - Ajax, I’m looking at you - and Neo, you’ll be the one to avenge your father and kill the brothers of Hector.”
Another “Yes sir!”
“Find that inner strength now, use that well of pride, fight through every pain now, ask yourself inside -”
The soldiers began to get into position - piling into the horse, sharpening their weapons.
Odysseus continued his speech, the others echoing him after every line.
“What do you live for?
What do you try for?
What do you wish for?
What do you fight for?”
Penelope, Odysseus whispered to himself, silently. I fight for Penelope. For Telemachus. I fight for us.
“I fight for us,” He hissed, gritting his teeth. “I fight for us, for all of us.”
-
“ATTACK!”
The gates were open. The Greeks were swarming into the city, the plan had worked, the fighting was everywhere but it seemed like they were winning-
Odysseus’s sword was in constant movement, whirling right and left, enemies dropping like flies around him, his head a cacophony of sounds, the blood pounding in his ears - I fight for us, I win for us.
With every strike he thinks of who he’s going back home to. Penelope. A Trojan falls, throat slit. Telemachus. Another staggers backwards, red blooming from underneath his armour. Penelope. The ranks were thinning, they really were winning-
and suddenly everything
stops.
The battle froze in time, darkness descending over the soldiers until Odysessus couldn’t tell friend from enemy, could only see silhouettes in the fog, couldn’t see anyone at all, they were all gone and he was walking through a dark nothingness -
A voice descended from the black, a voice Odysseus somehow recognised.
“A vision of what is to come cannot be outrun can only be dealt with here and now-”
“Tell me how!” He called out. “Are- are you Zeus? What do you want from me?”
A pause.
“…I don’t think you’re ready.” Zeus seemed to be talking more to himself than to Odysseus. “A mission. To kill someone’s son. A foe, who won’t run.”
Odysseus had the uncomfortable feeling of being watched. Like Zeus was looking directly at him - but he wasn’t there at all.
“Unlike anyone you have faced before.”
“Say no more!” Odysseus interrupted. “I know that I’m ready.”
“I don’t think you’re ready.”
The blackness parted like curtains, and Odysseus nearly fell to his knees.
“It's just an infant, it's just a boy….
what sort of imminent threat does he pose that I can not avoid?”
The battle started around him again, the sounds of swords and yelling below him almost muffled by the walls. Odysseus saw he had managed to walk into a child’s bedchamber while in Zeus’s strange darkness -
but even though he was back in reality, the god still spoke to him, spoke at him -
“This is the son of none other than Troy's very own prince Hector;
know that he will grow from a boy to an avenger, one fuelled with rage as you're consumed by age;
If you don't end him now you'll have no one left to save –
“You can say goodbye to Penelope, you can say goodbye to Penelope.”
“I could raise him as my own-” Odysseus objected.
“He will burn your house and throne,” was Zeus’s response.
“Or send him far away from home?” “He'll find you wherever you go.”
“Make sure his past is never known!” “The gods will make it known.”
“I’m begging, please!”
Zeus’s voice held no mercy. “This is the will of the gods.”
Odysseus was on his knees. “Please, don’t make me do this. Don’t make me do this!”
Zeus’s reply was a whisper, and it was deafening.
“The blood on your hands is something you won’t lose.
All you can choose is whose.”

Weekly 2
~~~~~
Part 1:
For a few hours, I worked on a diamond art painting that I just received in the mail yesterday! As soon as I got the diamond art painting, I immediately knew I wanted to do it for the weekly. Doing diamond art painting is always so therapeutic for me. I feel like my brain’s neurons are literally silent. Like, I’m not thinking about anything, just sticking the diamonds on. It did take a while for me to get started, but after starting, I found myself really immersed in the experience. My back was hurting a little bit after a while because I was hunched over, so I took a break. Overall I thought the experience was very fun and refreshing, and running my hands over the areas I had completed was so nice! I plan to work on it more over the weekend.
Part 2:
I read some of my book, Descendant of the Crane. I’m actually quite intrigued by the story so far! The synopsis suggests that the book will delve into the gray areas of one’s life, and how people who seem innocent at first glance actually have secrets hidden within them. I think it’s pretty clear that the main character, Hesina, is quite ignorant. I like how the book manages to portray her thoughts, which are that what she is doing is right, while also portraying that her thoughts are flawed. I enjoyed reading the book, as it was quite eye opening. I found myself really immersed in the story and excited to find out what happened next. I also got some inspiration for my long list of half-dead stories. I’m really interested in exploring main characters who are on the more ignorant side or believe in the antagonists’ morals.
Part 3:
I darted into an empty hallway and stopped to catch my breath. It wouldn’t be long before guards would begin to chase me. The pile of diamonds I had stolen was quite large after all.
This was always the best part of my expeditions, and I was going to make sure my perpetrators would never forget this.
The security of the bank was so lackluster. It was very clear that the guards did not take their job very seriously. Not to mention the security cameras just begging to be hacked. I felt the corners of my mouth lift in a smile. I was practically in an exclusive immersive movie.
I had already previously studied the layout of the royal bank, which was actually quite small. I had planned out my escape route and backup routes as well. Clutching my satchel tightly, I took a deep breath and ran off, stepping as lightly as I could to avoid making a lot of echo.
I tried to stick to the shadows, as my outfit was all black. It was sleek, aerodynamic, and very flexible. I custom ordered it using the money I received from a small gold statue I had stolen from the palace. Wearing it inside the royal bank was a little nostalgic for me.
I opened a door and ran to the courtyard in the back. The place was strangely unappealing. It was reserved for workers and vehicles bringing in supplies from shipments, so the royal family probably didn’t put that much care into the looks of it.
That was better for me though. A lack of quality always ensures a better chance of escaping.
I headed for the left of the courtyard area. A gate surrounded the premise, except for the place where cars entered, but it was too obvious and risky to exit through there.
On the other side of the gate there was a large tree in bloom, its branches dipping downwards. With a big jump, I successfully grabbed onto one of the lower hanging branches and used the gate as a prop to shimmy on top of the branch. Then I carefully switched to a crawling position and began to slowly make my way up the tree.
It risked having the guards see me if I just came down from the tree on the other side and walked away, so I decided that it was best if I jumped to some nearby trees and exited that way.
Speaking of guards, they had finally caught up to me.
They reached me quicker than I anticipated. Perhaps I underestimate their abilities a little. No matter, there was no way they could best me.
I still had to be careful though. The guards were gaining on me like sharks, and they now knew that I was in a tree near the outskirts of the gate. If I fell here, I could be in the hospital for days.
Not to mention my satchel of diamonds would be gone.
Without leaving too much time to think, I leapt from one tree to another like a squirrel, expertly swinging from one branch to another. I continued this process with a few other trees, until I was deep into the undergrowth behind the royal bank. I snuck a glance behind me. The guards were well away at this point. I let out an exhale. Another successful mission.
I just had to make it back to my hideout now.
I slid down the tree I was perched in and began walking nonchalantly to my hideout. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a ride. Though I would love to steal a vehicle, I wanted to make a more inconspicuous exit. No one would suspect you were doing something illegal if you were simply walking normally along the roads.
After about a mile, I heard someone call my name.
Except, no one was supposed to know my name. Not my real one anyway.
I almost froze, but I knew that that would give me away. Perhaps that person was just calling to someone else.
“Did you not hear me, Dawn?” the voice asked again. It was an old lady’s voice. She could’ve been in her 60s.
I felt an icy chill travel down my spine and latch onto my heart. I could feel the red blood cells pumping through the veins of my face. I was suddenly aware of every small movement I made.
“Ma’am, are you talking to me?” I asked, turning around. I tried my best to keep the fear out of my voice.
“Who else could I be talking to?” she said, laughing.
“I- I’m not Dawn. You must’ve mistaken me for-”
“Don’t be silly,” the old lady replied, “you can’t hide anything from me. I know much about you Dawn.”
At this, I rolled my eyes. This hag was probably one of those scammers who tried to act all mysterious and alluring to get innocent people’s money.
“Don’t believe me?” the woman said, a twinkle in her eye. “I have the gift of sight, like you used to read in the legends.”
Perhaps it was true that I read legends as a kid, but then again everyone did. Still, I couldn’t help but feel that the lady was telling the truth. Was she really one of the coveted people gifted with moonlight so pure it granted supernatural abilities? The stories said that those types of people died off a long time ago.
“I know you don’t want to listen to me ramble, so I will tell you one thing. Your arrogance will come back to haunt you one day.”
“What?” I asked, perplexed.
“I know you think that you are a hero, trying to take down the government and rid the world of its injustices. But I assure you, the problem does not lie with the government. At least, not with only the government. You need to look beyond what you’ve been told. I know you think that you can do anything, but you can’t. And you’ll soon realize that yourself.”
I narrowed my eyes. Those words hit a little too close to home. I wasn’t that ignorant. I was aware of some of the flaws I had. But I knew that there was no better way.
Even if I wanted to change something about myself, it was too late.
Suddenly, I stiffened. I could hear something. Footsteps. And a whole group of them.
I spun around quickly, analyzing the area around me. Before I could take off running, I saw a glimpse of a dark figure to my left. Then something hit me in the head, hard, and I blacked out.
Curse that stupid old lady.
Part 1:
For a few hours, I worked on a diamond art painting that I just received in the mail yesterday! As soon as I got the diamond art painting, I immediately knew I wanted to do it for the weekly. Doing diamond art painting is always so therapeutic for me. I feel like my brain’s neurons are literally silent. Like, I’m not thinking about anything, just sticking the diamonds on. It did take a while for me to get started, but after starting, I found myself really immersed in the experience. My back was hurting a little bit after a while because I was hunched over, so I took a break. Overall I thought the experience was very fun and refreshing, and running my hands over the areas I had completed was so nice! I plan to work on it more over the weekend.
Part 2:
I read some of my book, Descendant of the Crane. I’m actually quite intrigued by the story so far! The synopsis suggests that the book will delve into the gray areas of one’s life, and how people who seem innocent at first glance actually have secrets hidden within them. I think it’s pretty clear that the main character, Hesina, is quite ignorant. I like how the book manages to portray her thoughts, which are that what she is doing is right, while also portraying that her thoughts are flawed. I enjoyed reading the book, as it was quite eye opening. I found myself really immersed in the story and excited to find out what happened next. I also got some inspiration for my long list of half-dead stories. I’m really interested in exploring main characters who are on the more ignorant side or believe in the antagonists’ morals.
Part 3:
I darted into an empty hallway and stopped to catch my breath. It wouldn’t be long before guards would begin to chase me. The pile of diamonds I had stolen was quite large after all.
This was always the best part of my expeditions, and I was going to make sure my perpetrators would never forget this.
The security of the bank was so lackluster. It was very clear that the guards did not take their job very seriously. Not to mention the security cameras just begging to be hacked. I felt the corners of my mouth lift in a smile. I was practically in an exclusive immersive movie.
I had already previously studied the layout of the royal bank, which was actually quite small. I had planned out my escape route and backup routes as well. Clutching my satchel tightly, I took a deep breath and ran off, stepping as lightly as I could to avoid making a lot of echo.
I tried to stick to the shadows, as my outfit was all black. It was sleek, aerodynamic, and very flexible. I custom ordered it using the money I received from a small gold statue I had stolen from the palace. Wearing it inside the royal bank was a little nostalgic for me.
I opened a door and ran to the courtyard in the back. The place was strangely unappealing. It was reserved for workers and vehicles bringing in supplies from shipments, so the royal family probably didn’t put that much care into the looks of it.
That was better for me though. A lack of quality always ensures a better chance of escaping.
I headed for the left of the courtyard area. A gate surrounded the premise, except for the place where cars entered, but it was too obvious and risky to exit through there.
On the other side of the gate there was a large tree in bloom, its branches dipping downwards. With a big jump, I successfully grabbed onto one of the lower hanging branches and used the gate as a prop to shimmy on top of the branch. Then I carefully switched to a crawling position and began to slowly make my way up the tree.
It risked having the guards see me if I just came down from the tree on the other side and walked away, so I decided that it was best if I jumped to some nearby trees and exited that way.
Speaking of guards, they had finally caught up to me.
They reached me quicker than I anticipated. Perhaps I underestimate their abilities a little. No matter, there was no way they could best me.
I still had to be careful though. The guards were gaining on me like sharks, and they now knew that I was in a tree near the outskirts of the gate. If I fell here, I could be in the hospital for days.
Not to mention my satchel of diamonds would be gone.
Without leaving too much time to think, I leapt from one tree to another like a squirrel, expertly swinging from one branch to another. I continued this process with a few other trees, until I was deep into the undergrowth behind the royal bank. I snuck a glance behind me. The guards were well away at this point. I let out an exhale. Another successful mission.
I just had to make it back to my hideout now.
I slid down the tree I was perched in and began walking nonchalantly to my hideout. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a ride. Though I would love to steal a vehicle, I wanted to make a more inconspicuous exit. No one would suspect you were doing something illegal if you were simply walking normally along the roads.
After about a mile, I heard someone call my name.
Except, no one was supposed to know my name. Not my real one anyway.
I almost froze, but I knew that that would give me away. Perhaps that person was just calling to someone else.
“Did you not hear me, Dawn?” the voice asked again. It was an old lady’s voice. She could’ve been in her 60s.
I felt an icy chill travel down my spine and latch onto my heart. I could feel the red blood cells pumping through the veins of my face. I was suddenly aware of every small movement I made.
“Ma’am, are you talking to me?” I asked, turning around. I tried my best to keep the fear out of my voice.
“Who else could I be talking to?” she said, laughing.
“I- I’m not Dawn. You must’ve mistaken me for-”
“Don’t be silly,” the old lady replied, “you can’t hide anything from me. I know much about you Dawn.”
At this, I rolled my eyes. This hag was probably one of those scammers who tried to act all mysterious and alluring to get innocent people’s money.
“Don’t believe me?” the woman said, a twinkle in her eye. “I have the gift of sight, like you used to read in the legends.”
Perhaps it was true that I read legends as a kid, but then again everyone did. Still, I couldn’t help but feel that the lady was telling the truth. Was she really one of the coveted people gifted with moonlight so pure it granted supernatural abilities? The stories said that those types of people died off a long time ago.
“I know you don’t want to listen to me ramble, so I will tell you one thing. Your arrogance will come back to haunt you one day.”
“What?” I asked, perplexed.
“I know you think that you are a hero, trying to take down the government and rid the world of its injustices. But I assure you, the problem does not lie with the government. At least, not with only the government. You need to look beyond what you’ve been told. I know you think that you can do anything, but you can’t. And you’ll soon realize that yourself.”
¡Hola! Me llamo Moonlit.
Cuando era niña, vivía en Moonlitland con mis padres y hermanos. Mi madre era muy comprensiva, y mi padre era muy gracioso. Mi hermano menor era muy ruidoso, pero jugábamos juntos mucho. Mi hermana menor era un bebé, y era muy adorable.
Era una chica muy tímida, pero curiosa. Tenía ojos cafés y pelo rubio, y era muy artística. Vivíamos en un apartamento cerca de Moonlit Sea. No era grande, pero no era pequeño. Era perfecto para mi familia. Tenía miedo de estar a oscuras.
Jugaba muchos juegos de mesa con mi familia, y iba al parque mucho con mis amigos. Me gustaba leer, pero no me gustaba hablar. A veces, mi familia y yo íbamos a la casa de nos abuelos en Michigan para pasar tiempo con ellos. Quería ser una maestro en el futuro.
Esta es una foto de Disney World.
Tenía cinco años cuando mi familia y yo íbamos a Disney World para visitar los personajes, especialmente de Mickey Mouse Club House y las películas de princesas. Estuve muy feliz en esta foto, y me encantaba Chip y Dale mucho.
The street was dark.
There were no street lights, no windows without their curtains closed, no traffic lights, car headlights — nothing. When Alia glanced up at the sky, it was nothing but a void of darkness. She winced. Even two months after the initial flight of the stars, she still wasn’t used to the empty canvas that the sky has become. With a sniff, she continued on into the darkness.
It was some way down the road where she became aware of the figure behind her. It was hard to tell whether you were being trailed in the complete darkness, but at some point Alia had realised that these were the sort of life skills that would actually be useful. She learnt to listen for shoes scuffing against the curb, or gentle footsteps, or sudden coughs that could give away her attacker’s place. In this instance, she noticed in a window that there was an unusually large blob behind her. It wasn’t a suitable size for an animal of any sort, or of a vehicle, so she pinned its existence down to being the faint silhouette of a human. That, however, meant that she was in danger. Danger followed her as eagerly as a dog waiting for a meal. Alia paused for a second, then continued swiftly moving.
The footsteps continued, getting louder and louder by the second. Ok, so Alia would have to face this person all by herself. She luckily knew self defense, so perhaps that would be useful now.
Her heart was racing. She was used to danger, these roads always had some form of it. Regardless, she never had to face any of it.
Suddenly, a hand on her shoulder. It belonged to the hooded figure.
Alia acted instantly. Without hesitation, she flew her right elbow back. However, it was caught by a strong, firm hand. The other hand grasped her shoulder tighter and pulled the girl back.
She responded with a swift kick to the stranger's knees. The person groaned in pain, and Alia took this as a sign to spin so that she was facing their back. Then she jabbed her elbow into their back, causing them to collapse on the concrete. She pressed her knee against the person, then brought their left arm to a painful position.
“Who are you?” Alia snapped, keeping the arm in place.
A grunt came from below her. “I mean you no harm.”
“Lies,” she retorted. “I know you were following me for a reason. So spit it out, or else I'll do something I'll regret.”
“You’re very quick to assume,” the person mocked her. “Just like I thought.”
“Don’t change the subject.”
The person sighed beneath her. “Let me go first. Then I'll reveal myself to you, and tell you why I'm here.”
Alia scoffed. “How do I know you won't run away?”
“You don't. You just need to trust me.”
The girl's head was telling her not to do such a stupid thing. On the contrary, her heart told her to trust this mysterious individual.
Alia slowly lifted herself off the person. The figure got up as well, dusting themselves off. Aria expected the person to run, but instead they stayed put. They lifted off the hood, revealing a face.
Alia gasped. “You… no, I thought you were gone.”
Waking up listening to a noisy alarm she put on for herself the day before, Sienna did not wake up happily. “5.00 a.m” she whispered as she shut off her alarm and stood up from her bed. She felt dizzy and tired but she knew she had to awaken because of what was happening that day. It was one of the biggest events of one of her classes so far and it was an 8 round speech and debate tournament. Sienna was terrified by the thought of the tournament, everybody else in her class was so amazing at giving speeches and she had not gotten first place even once in a tournament. But she pushed through though and started grabbing more professional attire, making breakfast, and finding her fanciest shoes.
Sienna didn't carry any pairs of nice-looking clothes in her closet so she had to voyage through her mother's closet to find something to wear. She found an oversized blazer and button-down long-sleeved shirt and thought it was good enough. Thinking she was going to be driven to the tournament, she tapped awake her parents and asked if they could drive her over. They didn't even wake up. It was now 6 a.m and she had to be there by 8 a.m so she didn't have too much time it being an hour-long drive. After several failed attempts of trying to wake them up ‘softly’ she just slapped both sides of mother's face and yelled for her to wake up.
She did and said “I'm super tired go sleep.” and went back to sleep. It was now 6:05 a.m and she knew her parents didn't like driving early. So she figured today would be like most days and she would have to walk to wherever she tried to go.
Now in the parking lot, she pulled up google maps and searched for the speech and debate tournament. It said that by foot it would take an hour and thirty minutes to reach her location.
“Just my luck” she thought to herself and started walking over to the sidewalk. She wasn't upset that she had to walk over to the tournament, she had walked this path several times before and was honestly used to it at this point, plus she put on plenty of deodorant so she wouldn't be sweaty when she got there. She was just disappointed that her parents didn't set an alarm for themselves to wake up in time for the tournament to drop her off as she had been telling them about it for several weeks now. Tired, she looked up into a willow that was leaning toward a river nearby. A sweet birdsong was coming up from the top of the willow and it was pleasant. She was glad that the bird chirped beautifully and wasn't hurting her ears instead.
Sienna started to look all across the path she was walking. It was a pleasant place. The water contrasted the grass by being flowy and moving, touching the grass and making it sparkle. The trees were all standing tall and had leaves branching out of their heads looking like they were prepared to hug one another. The houses were arranged in a manner that every one of them would have a tree or plot of bushes laid next to them and it all just mixed and combined into one incredible scene.
Sienna's eyes sparkled. She started to come to the realization that her needing to walk to so many places wasn't so bad. There were so many beautiful things she could observe on this walk. So many things to learn from animals that waddled by. So much nature that calmed the nerves. So many blessings of life that lay beside her. It all formed a wonderful community of life in her town that she was starting to adore more than ever.
So from then on out she never thought those walks were boring or took them for granted. She grinned at everything she passed by.
When the tournament came Sienna didn't place first but she was okay with this because much like the water when something pushes you back you just gotta move forward.
Weekly #2
Part One:
I opened the front door and immediately felt chills run through my body. I shivered and closed the door retreating back into my house. I had checked the weather yesterday and saw the high chance of snow, but had completely brushed it off not believing it would actually snow in mid March. Of course I was surprised when I opened the door to a winter wonderland with fresh snow still falling from the sky. I didn't want to abandon my plans to take a walk so a sped up the stairwell, dug through my closet for more weather appropriate clothing as my my xmen tshirt and butterfly decorated shorts were certainly far from appropriate and went back outside. This time after stepping out of the house I didn't feel the need to immediately rush back into the warm safety of the house, but instead began to walk down the driveway admiring the snow covered neighborhood. I stood at the bottom of my driveway and took my phone out of my pocket and snapped a picture of the pinterest worthy moment. Already, my hair was covered in snow, but instead of putting my hood over my head to protect my hair I simply let it be. I then proceeded to take a walk through my neighborhood, stopping every once in a while to take a photo of the snow littered rooftops and white blanketed trees. After a good forty-five minutes I decided I better head back inside before I caught a cold. I stepped back inside, shook off my coat and headed over to the fireplace to bundle up and read a cozy book, glad that I'd decided to take my early morning walk out in the snow. (287 Words)
Part Two:
I smiled with familiarity as I bundled up in my covers and cracked open my copy of Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter. I took the receit I had been using as a bookmark out of the book and let my eyes go over the pages slowly sinking into the story. Before I knew it I was no longer in my bedroom, but watching a basketball name with two cute boys on either side of me. I was completely immersed in the story and absolutely nothing would change that. I eagerly flipped the pages so enthralled with the plot and the romance. I could hardly stand the tension between Liz and Wes and the romance starting to form between them. I felt so at ease reading this fun book and multiple times I found myself getting butterflies from some of Wesley's lines. I couldn't believe I hadn't already read this absolute heaven of a book! It was like all the things I loved in a romance book all put into one! Some of my favorite tropes (enemies to lovers, childhood friends to lovers, and fake dating) were all a big part of the plot and I was absolutely eating it up. I was heavily disappointed when I put my book down at the sound of my name to realize I was not in fact in the world of Better Than The Movies and unfortunately still in my much less exciting bedroom. It took me a minute to get my head out of the story and realize that my mom was trying to ask me to put away my laundry. Begrudgingly I did so still basking in the thought of the book I had been so immersed in, itching to get back into it as soon as I was done with my mundane chore. (304 Words)
Part Three:
*insert fanfiction of Liz and Wesley going on an atmospheric winter walk together*
“I'm coming,” I shout over my shoulder as I tug on my flower-embroidered jacket, stopping in front of the mirror to make sure my hair isn't oddly sticking up anywhere. Wes comes in from behind me and wraps me in a tight hug. He then ruffles my hair and gives me a kiss on the top of my head.
“Wesss,” I pout. “You ruined my hair,” I say even though I'm not mad and he knows it.
“Doesn't look messy to me,” he says grabbing my hand and practically dragging me to the door. “Now come on before it stops snowing.” I roll my eyes but comply as he pulls us out of the house. Once outside we stand still our hands still in each other, admiring the snow. Then Wes turns to me with a grin on his face. Then he tightens his hand around mine and leads me down the driveway. As we walk down the snow-covered streets I can't help, but melt at the adorable smile on Wes's face. We walk past the parking spot we used to fight over every morning.
"I can't believe you used to fight with me for that spot just so that you had a chance to talk to me. I really thought you were just trying to make my mornings hell.“ He gives me a toothy grin and says,
”Well think if I hadn't we never would have gotten to have our enemies-to-lover trope.“
”We wouldn't have gotten to be lovers at all,“ I agree, deciding he has a point. Wes smiles at me we continue to walk in silence for a while enjoying the look of the snow-covered rooftops. Eventually, Wes says,
”You know, Libby, this is kind of like one of your movies,“ he says.
”Really, how so?“
”I mean isn't there always a scene in romcoms when the couple is out walking together in the snow, really makes it look romantic.“
”It is romantic," I tell him resting my head on his shoulder for a second before turning to smile at him. He smiles back and kisses me on the cheek. Soon, we get to our destination. We climb up the semi-steep hill leading to the graveyard where my mom is buried. We weave our way through the gravestones stopping before my mother's. We sit at the bench Wes bought for it back when we first started dating. We each exchanged words with my mother, telling her about what's been happening in our lives recently. We tell her about us and our relationship. We talk about college and how going to UCLA together was definitely the right decision. We tell her about our hopes for the future and things we wish we had done better in the past. Finally, we tell her we love her and that we miss her. Wes squeezes my hand as we walk back down the hill together. Part of me wants to be sad. Part of me wants to stay up on that hill forever, but another part of me knows that I'll be okay, that we'll be okay, that we'll make each other okay. (524 Words)
For the writing competition, I could do a piece that starts with Celesta Cadence. She is struggling to find a job as a violinist, being rejected again and again by prestigious orchestras. Celesta always strives for the best, and wants to prove herself to her family of musicians. She places all of her problems on the fact that she is half deaf, and hates thinking about the actions to her consequences. Celesta, or Cella, has two older siblings, Aria and Harmony. Aria is the oldest and plays violin in a professional orchestra. She is always busy and never really sees her family. Celesta looks up to her a lot, especially since she is having trouble joining an orchestra herself. Aria also dabbles in composing, and has garnered recognition for her works. She also is very good at sight reading. Harmony has perfect pitch, making her an excellent violist, which makes Celesta jealous of her. With her sister’s incredible abilities, Celesta feels a lot of pressure to live up to them. After getting rejected by yet again another orchestra, Celesta goes to her gig that she has scheduled later that day. She is supposed to be playing at a children’s picnic. Celesta really does not like children, and while she’s not playing, she spends her time scowling at the kids. That is until one kid comes up to her and tells her that she plays really good. Celesta scoffs at this, and tries to dismiss the kid. But the kid continues, saying that her mom has hired a lot of people to play at these picnics, but Celesta was the best one so far. The young girl’s unapologetic truthfulness makes Celesta a little fond of her, and she appreciates the words. The story ends with the girl looking up at Celesta with wide eyes, asking if she could teach her how to play violin like her. Celesta says yes.
“Yes,” I say, because I know it will pay good money. And the girl is cute too. For once, I have something I’m looking forward to.
I walk through the forest, finding it surprisingly calm despite all the warnings I had received not to go in there.
“You can’t go in the Evergreen Forest!” I still remember Heiba’s distraught at me telling her I was leaving. I’m not sure if we’re ever going to agree on something. It made me sad, more than I would like to admit. It’s not like she’s ever done anything good for me anyway. I can do everything on my own.
I roll my eyes and shove the memory deep into my brain. I need to focus so that I can find the hideout I’m seeking.
Obviously, I wouldn’t just voluntarily stroll through an undergrowth of itchy grass. If my research was correct, there was a storage of the finest violin making wood hidden in a capsule in the vicinity. And I must get my hands on it. The world has tried to squander my talent for too long. With this wood, I’ll finally be able to display my talent to the world, and be even more famous than Amy and Aria.
Heiba would have to look at me differently.
I step not more than 7 steps into the forest before I am bombarded by a hoard of bunnies. Strangely enough, there’s nothing sinister or malicious about them. With all the warnings that come with the Evergreen Forest, you’d think that the creatures living there would be at least a little dangerous.
“Woah, another human,” a voice says. “It’s been a while since we’ve seen one, right Torrie?”
“Sure thing,” a female voice replies, “take a good look before you leave.”
I stop in my tracks, feeling my heart jump in my throat. What if someone else was here to get the violin wood? I have puny stick arms. I can’t take anyone in a fight.
“Is someone there?” I ask tentatively.
“You’re looking in the wrong direction.” The first voice appeared once more, sounding more annoyed this time. “I’m down here.”
I scan the ground, but beneath all the bushels of green, I don’t manage to spot a single person.
Except, there are bunnies.
“Are you… talking?” I gasp, astonished.
“How perceptive of you,” the first voice says.
“Now, now, Jeremy, no need to be so sarcastic,” another rabbit chimes in. I deduce that she is Torrie. “It’s not everyday that you see talking animals after all.”
“Is this the forest playing tricks on me?” I question.
“No,” Torrie replies, “honestly, why is it so hard to believe that animals can talk? You are an animal after all. You’re looking for that special wood right? I heard you muttering to yourself earlier. I can help you find it if you want.”
“Oh,” I say, pleasantly surprised, “sure!”
I walk through the forest, finding it surprisingly calm despite all the warnings I had received not to go in there.
“You can’t go in the Evergreen Forest!” I still remember Heiba’s distraught at me telling her I was leaving. I’m not sure if we’re ever going to agree on something. It made me sad, more than I would like to admit. It’s not like she’s ever done anything good for me anyway. I can do everything on my own.
I roll my eyes and shove the memory deep into my brain. I need to focus so that I can find the hideout I’m seeking.
Obviously, I wouldn’t just voluntarily stroll through an undergrowth of itchy grass. If my research was correct, there was a storage of the finest violin making wood hidden in a capsule in the vicinity. And I must get my hands on it. The world has tried to squander my talent for too long. With this wood, I’ll finally be able to display my talent to the world, and be even more famous than Amy and Aria.
Heiba would have to look at me differently.
I step not more than 7 steps into the forest before I am bombarded by a hoard of bunnies. Strangely enough, there’s nothing sinister or malicious about them. With all the warnings that come with the Evergreen Forest, you’d think that the creatures living there would be at least a little dangerous.
“Woah, another human,” a voice says. “It’s been a while since we’ve seen one, right Torrie?”
“Sure thing,” a female voice replies, “take a good look before you leave.”
I stop in my tracks, feeling my heart jump in my throat. What if someone else was here to get the violin wood? I have puny stick arms. I can’t take anyone in a fight.
“Is someone there?” I ask tentatively.
“You’re looking in the wrong direction.” The first voice appeared once more, sounding more annoyed this time. “I’m down here.”
I scan the ground, but beneath all the bushels of green, I don’t manage to spot a single person.
Except, there are bunnies.
“Are you… talking?” I gasp, astonished.
“How perceptive of you,” the first voice says.
“Everyone knows it’s good to spend time outside, but sometimes it can be hard to find something to do outside, especially in unpleasant weather or if there’s no one around to hang out with. Today, try writing outside for a short time. You might be surprised by how good it feels. Go outside and write 200 words to get 200 points. No bonus points for proof today. While we encourage anyone who can to complete this daily, please use an alternate daily if spending time outside today would put you at risk in any way.”
Alternate Daily (permission):
“It’s good to build up a habit of self-reflection! Journal and reflect on your day today - was your day as spicy as starrs? As dark as lulunar eclipses? You could write about things you observed about your surroundings and yourself, events, emotions, thoughts, memories, the future, to say name just a few ideas :0 Write the same number of words as today’s daily for the same points.”
My day has been quite exhausting. With daylight savings happening, it felt like I had to get up earlier, which, well, I did so that's why I'm exhausted. I had to give announcements at church this morning, which wasn't too much, but it still felt like a lot. I love being in front of crowds, but sometimes I just don't feel like it, you know? And then I had an hour at home before going to my grandparents! It was fun there, but it grew long and tiring, not to mention my phone almost died. It almost died for good reasons. I was watching clips from The Office and playing Pokemon Go. Veryyy good reasons, am I right? Those made me feel relaxed and calm. I'm actually watching clips from it right now while doing this journaling! I'm currently a bit stressed since I only have less than an hour to finish this, but I have less than fifty words to write, so it shouldn't be too hard! Except for me procrastinating, of course. My back hurts a bit from the position I'm sitting in while writing this, but it should go away in just a small bit. I went to Target today and got grapes which was boring yet also yay- grapes!
Today has been pretty normal, not much happened to be honest. I am sick though so that kind of sucks. I’m congested and have a bit of a headache. I’ve been drinking lots of water and taking some medicine so hopefully I’ll be better in a couple of days. I’m not so annoyed by the fact that I’m sick since it’s not too severe, but the most annoying part is the fact that my voice is really raspy and so I’m not supposed to talk; which is really hard for me as I’m quite a talkative person. In any case, it’s likely just a cold and I should be better in a couple of days or so, however I’m not sure how long it will take for my voice to get back to normal. I did really enjoy having a chiller day than I usually do. Usually on Sunday’s I’m running around to church and then some extracurriculars that I have, so it was actually really nice to have a day off from the hustle and bustle. For most of the day I kind of just sat and did nothing productive; I watched some TV, did some writing and worked on some homework, but other than that today has been really slow and kind of just a day to recharge and recover so that I can focus on getting better; which is something that I enjoyed quite a lot actually. To sum it up, even though I was sick today and didn’t really do much I still really enjoyed my day of relaxation with nothing to do.
Day 3:
Word Count: 249
Date: March 13th
Cabin: Sci-Fi
Rose peeked around the corner of the hallway, staring up at the large test tube that held her friend. She didn’t know why she was looking around so much, it’s not like she had to ask for permission to go there. Held in her hands was a small deck of cards. A contraband among inmates that she had been able to get. She walked forward, and Arctix smiled when he saw her. His aura flared and the door to the test tube opened. He stepped out and said, “Hi, you got the cards?” She nodded, walking over to him. “I did! I had to make some promises to get them, but it wasn’t too bad.” Arctix grinned, “Cool. What should we play with them?” Rose tapped her chin thoughtfully, “How about a memory game? I’ll show you how.” She sat on the floor and started spreading out the cards, “The main objective is to collect the most pairs of cards. When it’s your turn, you flip over two cards. If they match, you take them for yourself and have another turn. If they don’t match, you turn them back over and it’s the next person’s turn.” Arctix nodded, examining the cards closely as he sat down next to her, “Alright. So it’s a game of memory and luck. Wherever the cards fall could impact where you pick, and how much knowledge you have depends on which cards are turned over.” Rose nodded, “That’s a good way to put it.”
It was only two hours in and I had been pummeled by tennis balls, repaired a broken chair, and almost had my eardrums burst.
So I was having a phenomenal start to babysitting my little brother and his friends.
Of course, I wasn’t doing this willingly. My parents roped me into this. Though I did manage to convince them to pay me. I was still unsure if it was worth it though.
My parents did this often. I had the sense that they only had kids because of society's expectations, because they were definitely not the best at parenting. Well, they were good parents for older kids, but when it came to those on the younger side, they’re solution was usually to get out of the situation. So that usually left me to watch over my brother. It wasn’t that bad I guess. I sort of got into a rhythm, and actually ended up learning a few things. My parents were never the type to baby me. If they thought I was doing something wrong they would tell me. I ended up having to problem solve by myself. But it made me independent.
It’s interesting though, my parents are teachers, but when it comes to teaching their actual kids, they fall short. It makes me wonder how they came into their jobs in the first place.
As of late, I was trying to enjoy the little peace I had before the boys started getting up to no good. Now that I had calmed them down a little with a TV show, they were acting pretty good. Thank god for the internet.
I opened up my phone and scrolled through social media for a little. There was nothing interesting, only a few instagram posts and twitter fights. As much as I thought my little brother was annoying, he wasn’t that much worse than some of my own friends. When he’s not extra hyper, he can actually be kind of fun.
In a way, I’m kind of glad that my parents make me babysit him. While it is a lot of work, I get to practice being independent and spend quality time with him.
