march 1, daily one, introductions
851 words

Saturday morning finds you walking up the road to your local library. Strolling up with a warm cup of hot cocoa in your hand, you peek in on the library's picture window and take a look at the books there. There's the March book of the month, a bunch of Sci-Fi ones, and a whole shelf of books you don't recognize. You tear your eyes off the window shop and go over to the door, opening it and hearing the windchime that clings when you closed it. The library is built in glass and metal, with wooden tables, desks, and chairs. You walk past the front desk, waving to the person behind it while walking by. You continue walking, passing the computer station, question and answer desk, and a bunch of magazines laid out. You arrive at the elevator area, but remember your new years resolution. So you decide against using it and instead start walking up the staircase. It is painted red and black, with a poem by your favorite author painted in typewriter monospace font on it. After reading your way up, you finally reach the second floor: the teens floor. You open the glass door and are greeted by people your age, plus the librarian at their desk. Though there are many in the room, the room's high ceilings and vast areas are large enough to house everyone nicely. You don't have any book in particular in mind, so you decide to walk up to the librarian and ask.
“Good morning, Mr. Lafayette,” you say, flashing your smile.
The librarian looked up from his station. “Good morning, y/n,” he smiled, shuffling some documents. You could always hear a hint of a French accent. “How can I help you?”
“I'm looking for a good book to read. Would you recommend me one?”
“Absolutely! Do you have anything in particular that you're looking for? Science fiction, historical, fantasy?”
“Surprise me,” you said.
Mr. Lafayette thought for a moment, then got up from his seat and said, “Follow me.”
You follow him through a few aisles before turning into one. It was labelled Re-Imagined Norse Classics. The librarian filed through the rows of books, coming to the authors' last names starting with ‘L’. He picked out a book with a leather dark green cover.
“This,” Mr. Lafayette said, displaying the book in his hands. “Is a fabulous book. I simply adore it.” He held it out to you, and you took it. It felt heavy duty. You'd say the book was about four inches thick, but light enough to hold without being burdened.
“Thank you,” you said.
“Use it well,” he replied. “And don't stay up too late stuck in the book.” He laughed, but quickly shushed himself. “What are you waiting for?”
You smiled and quickly mumbled your gratitude again before setting off to some beanbag seats. Before you open the book, you always examine the front and back covers. The front one was a green leather jacket like you saw before when it was in the librarian's hand, but the back cover had some intricate runes you couldn't understand. You made a mental note to look them up later. That was - surprisingly - all.
So you open the book. The pages were rough, like a soft version of sandpaper, and were slightly discolored, but still strikingly white. Some were stuck together and you had to gently pry them apart to read them. The text was in E.B. Garamond, size 12, still legible. Every page looked as if it were carefully torn from a bigger piece. All in all, it looked worn but soft. And every word seemed to want to leap out from its place and tell its story.
And so you read. And read. And read, until a soft ding warned you that the library doors would be closing soon. You sat up, startled, and looked about. The room was nearly deserted, save for the evening librarian and some last minute bookworms. You stood and gathered up your backpack, rushing out the door. You quickly stuffed a bookmark into your book about halfway through, and scurried down the stairs. You sprinted to the front desk to check out your book.
“Have a nice day,” the front desk person said cheerily.
“You too,” you blurted. You could hear the clock ticking in your ears as you ran out the main doors to the outside.
You paused for breath and breathed in the fresh air, crisp and breezy. You made your way back to your apartment slowly, thinking about what you had read. It was a fanfiction, a mix of adventure, mystery, fantasy, and just enough romance. You were glad you found a book your type. You came up to your apartment door and unlocked it with your key, opening it to tempting smells. You greeted your roommate- they were cooking up something delicious. You sighed happily and chatted with them, each talking about what filled their days. After a satisfying meal, you both hopped into your
respective beds, you picking up your book again. And so you read.

Quidditch. The famed sport if the wizard ig world. Despite only having been here for a few weeks, I had heard loads about the sport from older students and in flying class. Instantly, my interest had been piqued. It was like Hockey (field hockey/lacrosse) in the air, yet not. I wanted to be in one of these matches, and when I learned an older girl was hosting a quidditch match, I had signed on immediately. Only problem was I had no idea how to play. That’s why I found myself under a sweater and holding a broom on a completely empty training pitch. I had chosen not to bring any books after I had heard an older student say “Books won’t help you fly, only experience.”. A school broom was all I had for this match. Other students had all sorts of brooms, from Cleansweep 7’s to Nimbus 2000’s. The school brooms were anything that the fancy brooms weren’t i had heard the rule, no first years can own brooms. I wasn't sure how strict the rule was, for I had seen many first years with brooms of their own. Alas, I would have to make due with what I had.

I mounted the broom and kicked off the ground, enjoying the rush of wind in my face. I practiced the basic maneuvers. Lean left, swerve left. Lean right, swerve right. I wished someone else was on the field and I balls throw me could they so I could practice catching. I leaned forward on the broom, hoping to jerk the idea from my brain. I couldn’t shake the feeling I was missing something in my practice. That’s when it struck me. I was a chaser. I needed to learn how to catch and throw. Only one slight problem…
“Where am I going to find a…a…” she racked her brain for the proper term for the ball. ”A Quaffle. Where am I going to find one of those?" I took a speedy lap around the feild, searching for the ball, but nothing. Instead, I found some good sized rocks scattered about. An idea popped into my head. Couldn't I use these to practice? I landed near some of the rocks and picked one up. It was about the size of a volleyball, and as light as one, too. I tossed the air, once, twice, trying it to get a feel for it. This would have to work for now. I kicked off the ground and set off racing across the feild. I launched the rock up into the air and chased after it, trying to see whether I could or not. I plummeted, and with me the rock. I reached for it, and tried to catch it, just a few more inches…

The same moment i caught the rock i face planted onto the hard ground. “Training to be a seeker, ‘eh?” My face turned bright red. I wasn’t sure if it was because of how hard I hit my face or because my training had been practically useless. Although I wouldn’t mind being a seeker…so maybe it wasn’t all in vein.

hellooo i got the first daily though im in realfi so this doesn't count for anything but still:

If I was a book, I'd be your usual sort of oldie book that makes you feel like you are reading an H G Wells book. I'd have hints of plants poured in, and a green cover thats hard because we all love a good hardcover book. My book should look kinda old (as i love older books) but actually be super cool.

March 1st Daily:❝Bonjour, my fellow writers! Word Count:1130 Words

Hi everyone! My name is Piper! I’ll be starting off this introduction as a normal one so that I can hopefully complete the 1k introduction challenge; however I will definitely be adding in myself as a book near the end of the aforementioned intro! (Also I think that is such a really cool idea and something I never would have considered doing but I think is going to be really fun to do!)

So, first, let’s start off with the basics! My name is Piper, I’m between the ages of 13-18 and I use she/her pronouns. I live in the PST/PDT time zone and I’m a homeschooled Christian (specifically I’m Catholic.) I go to a Christian Homeschooled Co-Op where I get to take core and elective classes with other Christian homeschoolers who are around my age. I take 5 classes on campus (Literature, Spanish, Biology, World History, Yearbook) and 1 class off campus (Geometry).

Currently I’m celebrating the season of Lent. Lent, if you’re not aware, is the time that Catholics practice in preparation for Christ’s d3ath and resurrection, also known as Easter. During the season of Lent, it is traditional that Catholics either give something up (for example, I’ve given up snacking throughout the day) or try to gain something (again for example I’ve been trying to pray more regularly, once in the morning and once in the evening). These things are meant to grow us closer to God; for example, when you think about doing what you’ve given up you should instead take that time to do something related to God, such as praying or reading a Bible Verse.

However, I think that’s enough about my religion as I realize that can get really boring really fast. Anyway, let me tell you a little more about myself and what I do outside of school. I’m a Girl Scout and have been for about 10 (maybe 11?) years now. My Girl Scout troop is multi-level, and basically that means that we have girls ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade in our troop. I love this style of being a scout because it allows me to have people to mentor since we have a lot of younger girls, while also having people my age that I can relate to and interact with on a more relatable level. My troop meets once a month where we work towards earning badges and completing community service projects that better our community! Right now we are also approaching the end of our cookie season, which is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. So far, I’ve sold over 400 boxes of cookies from booths and walking around my neighborhood and am currently working on selling around 200 more to hit my goal of 650 before the end of the season.

In addition to Girl Scouts I am also an avid theater kid/nerd (whichever one you want to call it) and have been performing in shows for about seven years and I am currently in rehearsals for a production of Shrek Jr. where I get to play the role of Fiona! Our show will be in late June and we have a total of 4 shows; since we are double casted (meaning that there are two actors cast for each of the leading roles) both me and my double-cast member will be able to perform 2 shows as Fiona for friends and family as well as for anyone else who buys tickets to those shows. I am also a part of my theater company’s performance group (we’re the ones who get to go out and perform in front of the community as the face of the program)

And in addition I also participate in an improv class to improve my skills in improvisation. Improv is a very useful skill to have in theater because pretty much every show there will be something that doesn’t go as planned that you will have to somehow work into the script so the audience doesn’t realize something has gone wrong. For example, in my last show (Elf Jr. where I played Emily Hobbs) there was a scene where the girl playing Santa had to reach into her bag (stuffed with styrofoam and cotton to make it look fuller than it was) and pull out an I-Pad; however during our second show, the girl had trouble finding the I-Pad in her bag and so me and the others on stage had to fill the empty space with lines that weren’t in the script so that it wouldn’t be awkward for the audience to walk. Eventually she found her I-Pad and we got to continue on as scripted, but in that moment a lot of us were able to show off our Improv skills.

Some of my favorite musicals as of right now are West Side Story, Legally Blonde, and one of my newest obsessions is the new Epic Concept Album!! It is so absolutely amazing and I recommend that you all go and listen to it RIGHT NOW so that me and the other Epic fanpeople have people to fan-out with!!! <33

Let’s see… What other things do I do? Um… Honestly that is what takes up a lot of my time as both those activities can be very time consuming xD So, let’s move on to some other stuff I do that isn’t necessarily through any specific organization ro class or anything like that.

So, first off I absolutely love reading. (and actually, this sounds like a good place to put in the description of myself as a book xD let’s do that now!). So, if I were a book I would be a hardcover with a blueish gray cover, the book would probably be pretty thick because I feel like there’s a lot of things about me that would need to be discussed and uncovered inside the book. I think I would likely be a true crime, dystopian, or another type of YA book. I think those are the most likely genres because those are the things that I’m really interested in. I would love to have me as a book in a library because that’s one of my favorite places that I absolutely love to hang out.

Well.. I think that’s enough about me! I would love to talk to any of you about any of the things that I mentioned in this post including but not limited to: musicals, Epic Concept Album, Reading, Girls Scouts, Christianity/Catholicism and honestly pretty much anything book/writing related because I’m up to talk about pretty much anything with anyone! <3 I know that this is going to be a great session and I hope to get to know a lot of new people this time!

Bonjour, my fellow writers! Welcome to another era of Starr Wants Cookies - er, Scratch Writing Camp ;) It's introduction day, and in the spirit of creative endeavours, we challenge you to introduce yourself as a book! What genre would you be, what would your cover look like, and what texture would your pages have? Would you be a paperback, or hardcover? Do tell.
I suppose if you wish to read me, I warn you of the dangers ahead. The cover was a faded red…I once indicated danger, and perhaps, I still do. I am an untouched but battered hardcover book. You would find me in the furthest corner of the library, hiding. What, I would ask, brings you to this corner of the library? Why do you wish to pick up a book no one wants to read? The pages would be blank, and the length and genre would be variable.

You never know what will happen next… Maybe when you flip through the pages, you’ll find a dystopian thriller. Or maybe, you’ll find pages full of neat handwriting and inked art. Or perhaps, if you’re lucky enough, you’ll find the true contents of the book. If you manage to unlock that, I do not know what will await you.

There would also be hidden tangents, but most of all, it all depends on the reader. If you ever decide to read me, be prepared to get papercuts…this book is not without hurt and pain. Perhaps, if you look hard enough, you’ll find a forest twisted with dark magic or a science fiction world with a villainess protagonist.

I will show you what I want, and what I don’t want you to see or read, you will not. However, if I don’t connect with you, expect a story of apathy or coldness.

But in order to find out what story you’ll read, first, you have to find me. Do be careful. I am often overlooked and sometimes, I feel invisible. Perhaps I will elude you eternally. Perhaps you’ll put me down after you get enough papercuts. Perhaps, you won’t pick me up at all and leave me in that corner of the library, never to be touched again.

If I were a book, I would be a character-driven urban fantasy novel, in a modern setting where supernatural happenings are considered fairly commonplace. It would play with tropes, and be funny and appear lighthearted at times, with a Lemony Snicket- or E. Nesbit-esque narrator, but also have a deep core. The cover is witchy, and also whimsical, including a three-eyed pink cat or something similar in the illustration. The book itself is a paperback, only slightly worn - it appears to have been read once, then left on the shelf, for when its owner inevitably decides to reread it.

Bursting through the doors of the library, I skip past the information desk, the science fiction area and the non-fiction area to the very furthest corners of the library and my personal favorite section, realistic fiction. I eagerly scan the shelves and pull out my favorite book. It had been years since publishing, and many hands had since held the book. Wear and tear noticeably cover the book, yet the precious words are still legible inside. Colorful bookmarks, annotations and tabs dress the book, and sticky pages are seemingly held together by past checkouts of young kids. A thick book for sure, its leather cover carved with a whimsical illustration similar to the many sketches inside the pages. Sure, it's realistic fiction, but something magical seems to emerge from the book, similar to those of Harry Potter and with writings combining the works of Percy Jackson's adventures and Mia Tang from Front Desk's childhood. Careful though- once you're finished reading the book, I can tell you its easily forgotten unless you deliberately seek it out. Be sure you never forget it amongst the ever-growing stash of library books in your bag.

Hello to all who have the pleasure (not really) of reading this introduction. If I were a book, my genre would be historical fiction because I am history in the making and also a little delusional, if you couldn’t already tell. Actually though, I think that a genre that could describe me and my life would be poetry. It can be cryptic, complex, and overall convoluted. This is so, unless you know how to read in between the lines, especially the ones that most would take at face value. As I am putting my thoughts into words, I’m realizing that this is making my life sound much more thrilling than its reality. My life on the outside isn’t the most exciting thing to have taken place. The most exciting thing I do consistently is going hiking on most weekends. I’m thinking more of a place like the mind. There are so many thoughts and emotions going through your nerves that it’s often hard to connect them to each other. I feel that my thoughts and feelings can be more complex than others. Not in a rude way, but rather that I am truly much more sensitive than the majority. It’s not something I’m proud of, but not something that I feel ashamed of in only a slew of scenarios. That I’m grateful for. If I were a book, my cover would be leather bound and a seaweed green. The title isn’t there yet, but my name is inscribed in gold, and the font is one of my very own handwriting. It would be a diary sort of thing and the majority of my pages would still be blank, representing the life that I have not yet lived. Each chapter would represent a year in my life, and each chapter has 13 subsections. The first 12 represent each month, while the final 13th would be my thoughts going into the next year or “chapter” whichever makes more sense. The edges of the book wouldn’t be frayed, but they would be golden, just like the words on the cover. The pages that describe me crying would have tear drops stained on them. At some points, there would be annotations which would show the retrospective view that I had after the event that had taken place. The pen would be black and ballpoint. If arrows are used, they are very simplistic, in which the line is connected to the point of the triangle. The arrows would never be straight, even if it’s just a little curve. This is my best guess about what it would be like if I were a book, and though it may not be completely accurate, I feel that this could describe it quite well as of right now.

Introduce yourself as a book
285 words

Bonjour, my fellow writers! Welcome to another era of Starr Wants Cookies - er, Scratch Writing Camp It's introduction day, and in the spirit of creative endeavors, we challenge you to introduce yourself as a book! What genre would you be, what would your cover look like, and what texture would your pages have? Would you be a paperback, or hardcover? Do tell.

If I was a book… You walk into a library on the hunt for an interesting book to read. You walk over to a shelf you have never been to in hopes you’ll find what you’re was looking for. You skimmed to wall for a cover that stood out. Your fingers stopped at a certain book and pulled it out. The book is a skinny hardcover with no protective flap. It didn’t look new but not worn out either. The cover was a soft pink, blue, yellow, and white tie dye with no specific pattern. The title is a girl’s name in big bold font. Underneath the title was a girl. She had blonde hair, jeans, and a neutral colored hoodie with a small burgundy bag with the strap diagonal across her body. Sitting next to her is a medium sized dog. The dog had dark brown fur with golden paws and a white chest. Her ears weren’t floppy but not perked up either- more like an in between. After you finish looking at the cover you flip through the pages. The pages were soft with a brown tint. The font was towards the larger size but not too big. The chapter numbers were curvy and decorative and there were tiny doodles in the margin. Someone must’ve drew them. You read the blurb on the back. You gather that it’s a story about a young girl who lives the U.S. and navigates life. It’s a slice-of-life with fantasy and puzzles. You finish examining it and fill out your mental book attributes checklist. It fits all the requirements so you carry it with you to the check out desk. You’re excited to read your new book.

march 1 – daily

You wake up later than usual on Saturday, around 11:00 AM, but you don't care, however you spend your weekend will always be great. When you go downstairs to eat your breakfast, you think it'll be a good day to make pancakes for breakfast, so you get all of the ingredients out. You start making your pancake batter but realize that you have a test on a book you've been reading in school, and you've forgotten your book at your grandparent's house when you were there a week ago. You never realized you left it there because you just finished the book and your teacher gave you a week to study. Your grandparent's house was too far away to get it back in time to study well, so you decided that you'd just go to the library and borrow a copy. You quickly finish making pancakes, shove them in your mouth, and rush to the library.
When you get there, you immediately find the book you needed, but realize that you haven't read a book, besides the ones for school, in a while. You look around, not really sure what you're looking for, so you just explore the library. There's a whole bunch of books, you don't really bother looking at all of them, you're just waiting for one that stands out for you. Then you find it.

Hello there, I'm Ash, a soft-covered realistic fiction book about life going to a private middle school, with all the “popular kids” constantly shipping you with random people and making fun of everyone, even those who they hang out with. As you read more of my story, you realize that the challenges I face aren't actually that different than what anyone else is facing and that it seems like I'm overreacting but then you think about how I must feel, and no one can deal with anything perfectly. During this book, you hear lots of mean and hurtful things, but you also see the strength in others by how they act. You go through my whole story hearing every little detail about my sixth grade year, everything good and bad. Although you're mostly just hearing about someone's life, you also learn more about how you should act and what would make you a better person after hearing what happens to me.

If I were to be a book, you would find me in almost every library, as I am a pretty common middle-schooler. Inside the library, you might have to look long and hard to find the book as it is easily overlooked. You might look either in the mystery section or in the W’s. It may take a little bit, but soon you’d find a book with a worn cover, showing off pages of writing in a journal. (A journal with a llama on the cover, although the llama looks as if it were straight from the sl@ught3r house.) A mixture of scents would tickle your nose at opening the pages. The pages, however faded from wear and tear, are well kept and look as though many hands before have touched them. The book, a hard cover, would look scratched, and if you look hard enough you may find details lurking right beneath the surface. Only problem was the detail was never the same for each person, and it would take many to reveal the entire mystery. The pages, pointed, sharp if you explore to far. The book, looking quite thin from the outside, has thousands of thin pages in the inside. Some pages are overlooked, others never found. Secrets are covered by the pages, and most may never be found.

SWC Megathread || March 2023

march 1 daily:

You walk into your school library, looking for a good book. It's one of the rare days when you have free time, and you decide to spend it in your favorite place it the whole school. You walk over to the fantasy and fiction section and start walking up and down the aisle, browsing the shelves. You've seen or read almost every book there before, and smile as you see your favorites. All the adventures you went on with all the different characters flood your mind. After walking for a few minutes, you start to leave, as class starts soon. But a deep green book catches your eye. It's spine which looks almost untouched, has gold writing on it, and forgetting about being late, you bend over to pick it up. You open the book, and are surprised to see that the pages are worn and soft. It's like someone, or many people, had read this book many times and had many great adventures with it, but had kept the cover pristine on purpose. You don't know why you picked it up- normally the least worn out books are the worst. But as you start to read the first chapter, the pages smelling like a million things at once. Absentmindedly, you walk over to a beanbag, and sit down on it, already engrossed with the story.

The book that represents me is a lighthearted middle-grade sci-fi fantasy. There is a lot of whimsical worldbuilding about a magical “other” world up in the clouds. There isn't that much plot, just characters existing, interacting, and exploring the world. It is written in first person with an optimistic and comedic narrator. Scattered on the edge of the words are small sketches of the people, objects, and locations described in the book. It is a hardcover, but without one of those annoying jacket covers that always fall off. The outside of the book is light purple. The title, “Starry”, is written in fancy but legible script in shiny letters. Under the title is a simple illustration of a night sky.

“Bonjour, my fellow writers! Do tell.”

The place you walk up to can hardly be considered a bookstore. In fact, it’s more of a little library- a birdhouse-like structure atop a wooden post, with a little door allowing you to put things inside. The house is white, but the paint has begun to chip away little by little over the years, giving it an effortlessly rustic appearance.

I’d say big things come in small packages. I’m actually quite short for my age, however my height hasn’t prevented me from participating in several extracurriculars and activities like soccer and cross country. As for the chipping paint, I’m admittedly a bit of a mess sometimes… sometimes I try to focus on too many things and end up losing track of what I need to do, which eventually sets back any progress I’d hoped to make. Even though I do tend to get a bit distracted, I’m always trying my best and striving to improve.

You grab the handle of the door and swing it open, letting the papery scent of books wash over you. Skimming the titles, you realize they’re a lot of your favorites- those books that you could read over and over again without ever getting tired of them. The ones that are the first books you turn to when you need an escape, a laugh, a smile, a tear. But there, sitting directly in the center, is one you’ve never seen. Blue-grey cover, white words embroidered on the cloth cover: Reese.

I frequently surround myself with people that make me feel happy, this often being my friends. To me, friends and family are the most important things in my life, and being around them gives me immense joy hehe. And since you’ve never seen this particular book, it reinforces my slight quirkiness… I can be a bit chaotic at times. Blue-grey is my favorite color, which is why the cover is this color!

The book seems to have been read over and over- a few dog eared corners in the thick pages, the hard cover slightly worn. The words are small, squashed in neat inked rows. You read through a bit of it, intrigued. The story flows elegantly, however there seems to be a deeper meaning woven in… dystopian and fantasy, a bit of mystery.

I do tend to keep things to myself… I’m good at keeping secrets and hiding sadness/anger/fear, part of the reason I tend to appear quite positive. However, I’m obsessed with dystopian and fantasy hehe- Divergent, Legend, Six of Crows, ahhh.
