Daily 5: 404 words

It took a thousands years for her message to be found, waxed shut in a glass bottle blown from pearls and stars. The cargo ship melted the wax until it was a drop of molten lava, and read the charcoal-edged scroll:

“Dearest Lucia,

Where have you been all this time? I know your sole purpose was not to wander and roam the blue carpet of the sea.

I know your sole purpose was not to seek the solitary chunk of land,
So why have you not come back to me?
The world will set alight next week. The land will burn to powder and dust, and the holes in the nights sky will grow bigger and bigger, revealing the forever light of day. The shadows of us will wither and rattle in the burning sunshine, and we will be left with nothing

People are looking forward to this day, but I am not.

Remember? Light cannot be without the darkness, and no darkness will be no light. This “light” is in fact a nothing that will blind all and forgive none. The forever candle will burn all of us away, until we one of this light.
I look to the darkness of the night sky and my heart aches with longing and from the coming doom. I wish I could join your be with you, so we can both hide under the blue carpet that surrounds the rocks. Then we can have the balance of the world- light above, darkness below. It will be prefect.

I have recieved your last letter. The carpet is suffocating. There is no air we can fill our lungs with. The blue carpet will seep into our lungs otherwise. I hatched a plan for that one. I bought the local mage’s “Permanent Water breathing potion” so the blue carpet won’t sleep inside of us- like breathing the air under it. What do you think? I will be at the docks with the potion. You can go back there with your crew to pick me up.

Until then, I will see on the edge of Big Rock.
-Maisy”

Historical research has been made about these two sisters who wished to live underwater to escape the Millennia Asteroid. Lucia had never received the message but lived at the bottom deck of her ship for the rest of life, and, Maisy sipped the potion herself and is said to become a mermaid.

Daily for horror, day 5
Dear lover,
I’ve been trying to let go of the invisible rope nestled in my hands, tears run down my scorched skin as I try to forget you. I wipe off the drops of water on my face with my sandy hands, my eyelashes brush against my fingers as I shield myself from the Sun. If you are up there, why is your star so invisible to me? Why are you not glowing brighter than the Sun? I remember, when I was your Sun, now I stare up at your version of me. I wish I could shield you in my glow, cover you in warmth as these days stretch into endless nights, without you.

If you were hear, would you still say “Morning, Sunshine” as you looked deep into my empty, isolated gaze? I look up now, my eyes now filled with a raging fire that burns inside me, why couldn’t I make you stay?

I now regret not having spent time with you, I sit here all alone, caked in dirt and sand as I watch the waves rise up to the sand and soak it. If I could drown right now, would we both be two stars, looking down at the world from up beside the Sun, or is it too late? would you still glow at me, my love? I question myself over and over, would you have stayed if I changed something, why did the sky snatch you from me? You’re probably up there, aren’t you? Amongst the thousands of stars in the sky, blinking furiously through the night, do you ever wish you lived?

I wiped away your final tears, held you tight in my arms as you finally breathed out for the last time in your life. Are you still right beside me, my love?

A message in a bottle (340 words)

To my dearest teddy bear,

It has been so long since you departed to live a different life on the great blue ocean. At first, I assured myself that it was just a phase, that you would soon come out of it and continue to serve as my loyal emotional support buddy.

I’m sorry that I didn’t believe in you.

But was this really the solution? To abandon your comfortable life with me for a crew of vagabonds and thieves? What could they give you that you didn’t already have? Why would you choose to put yourself constantly in danger just to prove some kind of point.

I was disappointed and sad when you left, but such feelings have settled by now. I understand that you felt that you had your reasons for departing, even if I don’t understand them. I’m not writing this message to chastise you for your actions. I know that you did what you felt was right at the time.

But I want to implore you to come home. Nothing has been the same without you, and my life doesn’t have meaning anymore. I miss you every day, and often find myself wistfully recalling the day we first met.

It was a cold day, many years ago. I was but a child, but even then, I looked into your button eyes and knew that our bond would last forever. We have been through good times and bad, triumphs and failures, laughter and tears. It may have been boring, but it was a good life.

There is an empty pit in my chest now, filled with your absence. I don’t know what I’m thinking, sending out this message in a bottle. But I don’t know how else to reach you, and this is my last resort.

If you receive this, please, please come back to me. I can’t stand imagining the danger that you put yourself in every day, and I yearn for you every second that we’re apart.

Anxiously awaiting your safe return,

Your forever friend

Portland, Maine, 1989. Wendy walked around the shore of the beach, the hot sand burning her feet. She looked down, what was that? A green bottle sparkled from the sunlight and was blinding her, Wendy gingerly picked up the bottle. Wendy took off the cork and shook it, letting a rolled up letter fall into her hands. She then sat down and started reading it.

“ Ma, pa, and sister are on vacation while I lay here on a hospital bed. I insisted on going, but they told me to stay here. I do not know how I can get any better without fresh air and sunlight. The only thing that’s keeping me company is the monitor which beeps and beeps and beeps. I have always thought of keeping a diary, but oh it hurts so much for me to write. It takes so much energy just to write this, but I have always dreamed of writing a message, putting it in a bottle, and sending it out into the ocean hoping someone will find it. I guess now is my time to do it, I do not have much time left. Ma, pa, and sister probably will not get back in time. That is why I lay here, it took too long to get help. I could be healthy and happy now.”

Wendy held the letter so tightly it crinkled. Tears sprang from her eyes falling onto the paper like salt water. This was her sister’s. The guilt still haunted her to this day, Wendy insisted she stayed and rested insisting it would be good for her and left her. Not knowing that was the last time she’d seen her. Wendy put the message back into the emerald bottle, put the cork back on, and sent it back into the ocean once again.

“‘A message in a bottle is all I can do,’ says Taylor Swift in her starr-striking song. Write a message to go in a bottle - you know, the kind you toss into the ocean waves in the vain hope someone might find it someday - and invent a little backstory to go along with it! (Or, feel free to use mine: Your darling teddy bear has decided to abandon you for a life of piracy and crime, and you’re convincing them to come back </3) 300 words for 200 points, and earn an extra 50 points for sharing your message.”

My dearest Claudia,

I miss you dearly, my darling. I miss your smile, your laugh, your overall brightness and joy. This separation is tearing me apart, like the wind ripping a paper bird in two. I long for your grace and calm, for without you my heart is empty.

The soldiers here are frightening, thirsty for tastes of battle. I fear it. We train constantly, and a gun feels so natural in my hands, I find myself waking up with my fingers gripped around an invisible trigger. It scares me how much this fighting is getting in my head. I don’t feel like myself. I wish I could see you, but I’m glad you're safe. You keep me sane, my darling, when I feel my mind slipping. It's been so long, much too long, Claudia, since I’ve witnessed your beauty.

I hate myself for leaving you, but it was the only choice. We leave for battle tomorrow, and I will fight valiantly to protect my country. To protect you, my dearest. To protect Ava, our beautiful girl. Please remind her that I love her with all of the fibers of my being. And you as well.

I may not come back, but please don’t cry. I swell with pride that I’m doing all in my power to protect our country. It’s with this pride that I get through the days without you. I know you’re scared, but don’t be. I will be always connected to you, always with you, no matter the distance between us. This world war may be keeping us apart, but I breathe for the day I see you again. I will be always with you, my dear. My heart beats for you, my soul connects me to you, I live for you. You must keep going, even if I don’t. Keep going for me, for Ava. I will always love you, my darling, and I will be forever yours.

I’m throwing this far into the ocean in hopes it finds you one day. I’m praying to God it does. My heart is yours forever, my dearest Claudia.

With Love,
James

Weekly #1

(the idea was that Thriller is some sort of fortune teller, speaking to the other cabins. Lol I don’t even know)

1501 words

Adventure

In the midst of all your magic and fighting, it seems that finally, you have stumbled upon the valiant warriors you have been searching for. At long last, I must add. The conflict their bravery has arisen for may be their downfall. Perhaps war never creates victory? Your fate stands upon the gleaming edge of a sword you cherish dearly yet fear so wholly. Whether you defeat the forces that seek to oppress you or whether you will vanquish them, even the wisdom of the sea cannot predict. So, for now, at least, your fate is in your own hands.

Bi-Fi

I hope this letter is found well, and not intercepted by one of those movie characters that wander around with you. Oh, what a difficult situation you must be in. Although the effect on the sea is minimal, only the essence of your trouble reaches us in our depths. As for your fate… it is uncertain. Though certainly, it is tied to the story of the movie. That much is almost fact. Those characters will dictate your every move, whether in a subtle or loud way, and whether slowly or quickly, both your present and future will intertwine with theirs. But for good or for bad is up to them, and maybe you.

Dystopian

Ah, my sibling. We have strayed very far apart from each other in recent weeks: you in your ethereal lands of silver and stars, me in my underwater dwellings of danger, yet excitement. You know only too well that your fate relies on the stars. Their collection… the difference each makes between life and death. After all, whatever beautiful dimension you are in, may well be the most dangerous of them all. Only time can tell, as only time can bring the sea and the stars together. But I hope fate finds you well and you come from this… alive and flourishing.

Fanfiction

The ability to travel time… sounds incredible, doesn’t it? Incredible, but dangerous. Is it a blessing or a curse? Only time will tell. I have no feelings towards you and am in no way rooting for you or hoping you perish into the depths of time itself. I only know that the warped realities and dimensions of time and space are complicated and dangerous. You should think of yourself as a fly in the gossamer maze that is a spider’s web, ready at any point to swallow you up. The spider is time and the web is your ingenious machine and your books. And anything could happen to you whilst you explore it.

Fantasy
I must admit it is an honourable thing you do, saving those creatures. Of course, no mythical beasts will ever compare to the splendour and power of creatures (both good and bad) that dwell in the deep depths of our ocean. And whilst I do have to slay the beasts that threaten me, saving animals is just as admirable. Despite this, I would be careful. Putting so much into saving creatures puts you at a risk that any damage to them will consequently be damaging to you. And whilst you are doing well so far, this could all change in a heartbeat - or rather, the loss of one…

Folklore

Never before have I written or sent a letter so deep into the forest as this. The earthy, floral smell filling my nose with a depth I have never felt before. The greens before me stretching, seemingly endlessly, with so many layers and shades. They’re so different from the dark greens of the sea. Beautiful nevertheless. Though I can’t help feeling something is wrong. Or rather, something will go wrong. Sooner or later the beautiful greens will become ugly. I don’t know whether it’s dread or anticipation that accompanies this thought, but this idyllic forest can only last for so long.

Hi-fi

Yee-ha! I must say though, will all the valiant and honourable paths others are taking, yours is perhaps the most… unlawful. Robbing trains, riding through the deserts with only the horse beneath you and the ground beneath that and what you can carry - I must admit, there does seem to be a sense of freedom in that. But your glory and wealth depend on those who seek to knock you down, those who do not agree with your actions. Be wary of them, do not let them have reason to come after you. If you do, whatever wealth and ego you have built up could come crashing down upon you and your horses.

Horror

If anything could be said for certain regarding the future, it is your downfall. Spirits, ghosts, or whatever unearthly creature is plaguing your troubled souls, do not have the power you have been led to believe they do. Its manipulation will cast a shadow over your souls, deepening its grip upon you until you can no longer function as human, if you ever were. But what I can say is that all the pure forces, however delusional in their opinions, will slowly overpower you as evil overtakes you. And in the end, no freedom, let alone victory, will remain for you.

Mystery

My friend. I hope your journey is going well, as this trip you are undertaking is a mighty journey in more ways than one. I hope it is cosy and comfortable and that the train keeps out all cold and evil. Although as much as I wish that could be true, I doubt all evil can be kept out by train walls. And as much as I had hoped you could be unscathed by all the bad things that happen, even you cannot. Still, enjoy every second of your trip that you can. I, for one, hope it is as wonderful as you expected it to be.

Non-Fi

How goes the bread? I miss the taste of it, the beautiful warmth and the comforting familiarity. But bread just can’t be stored underwater. So, in that respect, I envy you. But is a breadhouse even stable? Of course, a bakery would be, with all the other things it sells. But a shop exclusively containing bread? I guess it’s unique. Anyway, I am writing to tell you of your fate, as far as I can understand it. And my advice to you is simple. Don’t burn any bread. Never. Even by accident. Be careful, or one bad loaf may ruin everything you have baked.

Poetry

I still can’t get the song ‘Hall of Fame’ out of my head every time I stumble upon your island. I hope you earn everything you want in your competition. It seems nice, to have friendly competition, with low stakes and no danger. No sea monsters. No whirlpools or riptides. Anyway, this isn’t about me. It’s about you, my friend. I hope life on your beautiful island goes well. I don’t know if it will, and for it to turn out well you will certainly have to focus on your competition. But for a friend to achieve fame would be truly great.

Real-Fi

This inn is nice. A nice escape from the bitter weather, from the harsh reality, I guess. A bit old and decrepit, though that’s called character these days. For your sake, hopefully, it doesn’t fall. That would be a shame for you. Guess the state of it can’t get much worse though. Or it could. Who knows. But work hard to fix it and all will be ok. Not that I really care, you do you. Doesn’t affect me in the slightest. I’m here for one night only, just to check things out. At least it keeps out the snow, at the moment at least.

Sci-Fi

The whole tech addition thing is stupid anyway. The goal of your project is - I might sound quite harsh, but that’s life, a bit of brutal honesty now and again - idiotic. And then the fact it seems to spend half the time glitching is just ridiculous. I’d find it funny if I didn’t understand
how frustrating it can be. But that’s everything about all these dimensions and virtual stuff anyway: frustrating. And I expect you’ll turn out frustrated too. But that’s just bad luck, isn’t it? Should’ve invested in faster internet… maybe some ethernet cabling might fix it? Or not, I wouldn’t expect you to trust me… After all, I wouldn’t listen to you.

Script

Imagine being in a haunted theatre or something with some random people from the 1700s. Oh wait, you are. Sounds a bit sad, honestly. Unfortunately, it seems to be giving you an awful lot of motivation. That’ll end soon though… Hauntings in theatres are very, very bad luck after all, as I’m sure you know. And back luck always strikes at the worst time. So enjoy the glory and the spectacular triumph of theatre. Because very soon, whatever nice play is going on might just well suddenly turn into a horror. And no amount of singing or dancing will be able to stop that.

This kinda turned into sci-fi/fantasy thing, I'm sorry, I was too intrigued with the story!
A letter in a bottle

(Year 2014, time: 03:45)
Dear Oliver,
Hello dearest friend. Looking at my calculations, you should receive this letter in approximately 7 decades. I'm wondering if I'll still be alive by then! You may remember me as John, does that name sound familiar? I'll get to the point, you probably know I immigrated to another country. I'm very sorry, this was for safety reasons, not only for me, but for you and Cathy. How are you doing? Is Cathy okay? Too many questions, I know… I wrote this 5 years after coming here. By ‘here’ I mean the new place I'm at, sadly, telling you would be too hazardous as someone could find the letter. I'm really cautious about anyone finding this note in a bottle because they could track you down. I really care about you, you must remember that, dear Oliver. Also, I would like you to pass on the message to Cathy, Michael and Jacob that I apologize to them for leaving - I won't be surprised if they all hate me now. You know Cathy is the love of my life and my heart will always belong to her, no other woman I would ever meet or have ever met. Oliver, I would be happy if you could reply with answers. I have one last question, how has the world changed? Are there aliens instead of humans, is there a different language, who rules over England? I just checked the time and it is already 3am, I should get to sleep, writing letters could be exhausting! I miss you.

Goodbye friend, John.

(Year 2074, time: unknown)
Dear John,
I don't even know how to start. I have missed you too John. Though the immigration hurt us all, deep down, I still knew you remembered all of us. You probably don't even imagine what is happening to Earth now! So many evolvements. I even had trouble reading what you said, the language has changed a little. It's a crossover of tintingle (or what you call, gibberish), marsiansi (well you know, the aliens on Mars) and a little bit of the one you used, what we call old English now. Cathy… You really don't want to know what happened with her… I'm sorry to say this, but she died, in World War 3, 4 decades after you left. However, Michael and Jacob are alright, though they don't even remember who you are. They don't even act like themselves nowadays. I don't even know where they are. Last week they left for some ‘mission’, which probably isn't even true. John I know you would love it here, you were into those scientific stuff, weren't you? Do you remember when we were only 20 something and you built some aircraft? The nostalgia, but very good memories. How old am I now, you might ask? I'm 131. Most people don't keep track of their age, they just drink stop-aging potions every now and then whilst I do, I find it fun. I also drink them, to last long and see more things that people find. All this evolvement is great while I still miss the 20th century. Not much to say, so I'll end with a goodbye. Bye John.

Sincerely, your friend, Oliver.

+ Backstory/extra
Oliver and John were marvelous inventors and trustworthy friends. They invented different things; varying from devices, to cleaning resources, from stationery, to fun new games. Everything was great for the two colleagues. However, that ‘everything was great’ changed, right on the 25th of February, the year 2010. Like always, the busy-minded companions were scheming more reliable sources. They kept agreeing with each over and coming up with fabulous ideas. Until they heard a knock on their door. Oliver jumped up to opened it with a lively smile, and in a few seconds, the smile changed to a disorientated frown. There was a messenger at their door, demanding John to come with them. Oliver and John were full of concerning questions but they stepped forward together. The messenger only needed John, while the friends insisted on going together. Nothing worked. John left. Everyone were gloomy, most were crying rivers of salty tears, others were sulking in the corner. Everything seemed incomplete without John. Everything and everyone.

꒰ Woven Into the Waves ꒱
341/300 words for 250 points

Dear reader,
Wishing whoever may find this is well, we invite you to join us.
The mermaid council has decided that we will put a bottle out to sea, and whoever may find it is chosen to join us. If you accept, all you have to do is sing our song. It is written on the back of this scroll, so be careful not to rip or damage it. You are special. You have been chosen by the winds. We expect you to come as soon as possible. Don't fret about telling anyone, because as soon as you sing the song it will erase memories of you. If you disrespectfully choose to not accept, that is unfortunate for you. Your future has already been woven into the sea by the mermaid council, and you will be brought to us by the waves. You, reader, are part of the sea.
Sincerely,
Leader of the Mermaid Council
Alana Seaborn

You read the letter again and again until you are sure it says what you are sure it must. Mermaids? This is an interesting prank. As you read the message in the bottle for the fifth time, you realize you have forgotten about the song! You carefully flip it over, heedful of the warnings in the message, and see it is not in a language you have heard of. The swirled script rose and fell like the sea. It shared some of the letters from your language, so you suppose you could try singing it. Before you even realize it, you have already chosen that you will go. You take a deep breath in, perhaps your last breath of the salty, wet air before you are submerged, you realize, and start singing. Your voice surprisingly doesn't shake, after reading such an incredible letter. After the first three words, your voice carries on for you and your eyes lift off the paper. Your voice knows the words. The waves turn clear, and the last thing you feel is your legs lifting off the sandy beach.

11/5 (395 words): “A message in a bottle is all I can do,” says Taylor Swift in her starr-striking song. Dear whoever is reading this,
Please send help! I was kidnapped by pirates, and I am now a captive on their ship. They plan to kill me soon, so once you read this, please hurry! The ship I am on is called the Andromeda, and it has a figurehead of a woman made of ivory. The last area we passed was the Caribbean Sea. Once we reach land, they plan to trade me to the man who will kill me. So please, if you can do anything, come quickly!
If you are wondering how this all started, it was when I left the window and my bedroom open. It was so hot inside that I was sweating underneath my bed sheets. So, naturally, I saw the only solution was to open the window.
I knew it was wrong, and I should not have done it. I should have known how many dangers lurked outside the castle, waiting for an opportunity like that. Even my dad always pestered me to keep them closed. But my stubborn, willful self ignored all of that, of course, and now look where I am now!
Oh, if only I had listened…
But nevermind that now. I do not have much time left to spare.
Anyways, back to the story, I woke up in an abandoned cabin. My senses had told me that I was on a ship, due to the continuous rocking. But I could neither hear or see anything, as it was pitch black with no windows whatsoever and soundproof, as I would soon learn.
The moment I first realized who had captured me was when a man opened the door. He had messy, raven black hair, tan skin, and sea green eyes with a navy blue jacket that looked strikingly like an old admiral’s jacket. I would soon realize that it did not just look like one, but was an actual one depicting the pirates’ ranks.
After that, I had learned about what was really going on: the pirates had captured me at the request of their master, who wanted me sent and killed by him.
Why? I still have no clue, but what I do know is that I had doomed myself as soon as I had decided to open the windows.
So, please, come and rescue me before I reach my doomed fate.

Sincerely,
Princess Lynette

Hiya Alex!

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’ve missed hanging out in band. You and me and Peyton and Lucia and Reaganne and Angie- it was so much fun just, you know, teasing each other. I thought you were the most annoying person on this planet earth at first. And I stand by that statement. I’m pretty sure that will never change. But hey, after that one performance for the new high schoolers, I felt like we were friends. Or something. It’s been really fun just chilling.

Now we’re oceans apart and will probably never see each other again. And you’re never going to get this message. But I feel good writing it so maybe it’ll, like, improve my mental health or something. I don’t know.

To answer a few questions you undoubtedly have, the rest of the band gang- and some of the school- are on-island. It’s a shame you were away right when the apocalypse happened, or we might have gotten to spend more time together. Before we all die. Or something.

Do you still have your saxophone on you? It’s gonna need practicing, or you’ll never manage to play Wintertide properly. Like, seriously- you need to get those trills straight! I’m stuck on second clarinet and even I can play those properly! Though I suppose it’s hard to get anything straight for you

message (104 words) wrote:

Dear to those who find this message,

There's something strange at Longfell Island and I want someone to investigate. The adults wouldn't listen to me for who am I to argue with the busiest city in the Pacific. So what that the Longfell business has existed for a hundred years but there's something not adding up. The strange employees that drop out with no where else to be found…the strange racket that could be heard from the basement…
Look I don't know if this will ever be found but it's December 2023 and I hope that someone will listen to my plea.
Take care

backstory (308 words) wrote:

They stood close to the edge of the cliff with a letter in their left hand and a small bottle in their right. The letter parchment crunched underneath their fingertips as they slowly took several steps toward it. They gulped. There were security cameras everywhere but hopefully none of them would track them. They took the paper and used their fingers to curl it up until it looked like a small tube before being squished inside the bottle. The bottle was made out of a green glass material, it was a bottle that they found near the beach. In fact, it was even how they got this idea in the first place. Their devices were strictly under parental controls and there was no one that they could trust. Absolutely no one. They were all alone and it made the scenario even scarier.
But they were brave. They would be brave. This would be the only way they could protest against Longfell. Longfell would not be able to stand. And without hesitation, they screwed the cap back onto the battle and dropped it into the sea. Gravity pulled down on it as it hit a few rocks close to the shore before splashing into the deep, fathomless water.
“Master Ari, what are you doing so close over there? It's dangerous you know. Especially for small children like yourself,” a voice came behind them. They turned around to see an imperious woman in a suit holding a clipboard with a curling smile. “Why it's time for your classes to start. Why are you up so early?”
They casually shrugged as if all of those bombarding thoughts didn't exist. “No reason ma'am. Yes I do believe you're right. It's time to leave.”

The bottle floated in the frothing surface of the sea before a net collected it into its tumbling contents.

November 5 daily:
Message: If I could make one wish, I would wish for infinite more wishes. Why? That’s because I’m greedy. I don’t have self-control, nor do I have a single ounce of patience. Could I even live with myself having nothing? First, my dogs passed the rainbow bridge. Then, my sister. Finally, even my husband has gone. I mourned for everyone, but each time, the fear of my impending doom grew larger. Maybe I’m a spoiled brat or ungrateful menace. Perhaps I’ve lived with so many luxuries that I’ve forgotten what it is like to not. The things I grab onto with vain hope that I’ll never lose are all stolen by time, which flies by much too quickly for my liking. Only death awaits me, and soon it’ll be taking me away as well. How can I wish for only one person to come back? I need everyone, not just my husband, not just my sister, and not just my dogs. For me, the worst feeling is wanting something, but knowing that I’ll never see it again.
Backstory: Grandma stared at the ocean with vacant grey eyes, rocking back and forth in her chair. Her feet ventured across the sand as the wind blew ruthlessly. A sad expression on her wrinkled face, she reached for a pen and piece of paper from the table nearby. Grandma scribbled carelessly on the blank, white sheet, the ink splattering across the page. Her eyes darted around, filled with a sudden intensity. Her wrist flicked, her fingers shook, and her lips pressed into a thin line. Turning the page, the concentration she used on her writing seemed to grow more visible. The chair started to creak. The pen slipped out of Grandma’s hand as she grabbed a small green bottle. Grandma crumpled her paper and stuffed it inside the bottle, which she sealed shut with a wooden cork. With one graceful arc, she threw the bottle out towards the sea. The bottle soared across the blue sky, landing just at the shore break. Slowly, Grandma’s eyes began to lose the glow it had reclaimed and became empty again. Her body grew slack. Grandma had died.

Dear,

Whoever you may be, I hope you are alive and doing well. How silly of me, of course, you are alive or how would you be reading this? I’m so glad finally someone opened me I have been getting lonely and copped up in a glass. It’s sad, how everybody lies but nobody comforts. The world is ending soon, well, I guess not for you anyway as I was saying the world is ending I’m from the future. Huh, crazy right? Well no, not for me anyway. I have seen too many horrible things that I have no cure to fix me. There's no love, in the end, you'll learn that in the end. I have sold time to the devil for this letter to pass, I hope it’s worth it. You, reader, my love, will end the world. So, I ask you not to, please do not do it. Instead, you can, for example, end the spices of humans which is a great idea or we can move to the moon to eat cheese. I wish there was beauty in our beast, but, no, none. Now, you may be wondering, who are you? And why on earth would I listen to you? Well, my love, you have many reasons to do so, for example, you are bored to death which is a fact, and you want to see people running and howling at the moon because that’s entertaining, or maybe something I don’t know because these are all my ideas and wishes. But, dear if you want your wishes to be fulfilled let the world live not us, I beg you, my love, to listen to me once even if I am a sad sad loner, you’ll realize one day that when the last tree has fallen and rivers are poisoned that you cannot eat money or gold. I understand the world perfectly and why it hates us. And when you whisper feed me sunlight and feed me air there’ll be none, so, please.

Yours truly,

Lily stepped in the sand, barefoot. She had missed a fellow friend greatly. She looked at the water and thought to herself, ‘Is this the water to my old world?’. She didn't care if it was or not. She was anxious to let the note hopefully find a way to her friend. The bottle she had held for the past hour was thrown into the water, and all Lily could do now was hope for the best.

Dear Maverick,
I doubt it's you reading this, but if there's a slim chance that you are the lucky person who found this, then I'll allow this note to hopefully come to you.
You may remember me. I'm Lily. I know, you probably hate me now. I apologize. I didn't know you liked me like that, but even if I did know, I'm not sure what I would've done. I don't want to hurt either you or Max's feelings. But, I know I hurt you, and I'm deeply sorry.
Unfortunately, whether or not we meet again, I doubt I'd say yes to us being together, as much as I do kind of like you.
Anyways, enough of me hurting you. I'd like to hear how you're doing. How's your sibling? Are they doing well? And, how are you? Are you doing fine these days as well? I really hope you're alright. Anything new and exciting? Eh, why am I asking these questions? I doubt you'll never have the chance to read this.
Well, in conclusion, I hope you're OK now, and I hope you could visit again.

From Lily

P.S. This took a lot of motivation and effort to write so I deeply hope it reaches you or I wasted a day.

Lily watched the bottle disappear from her sight. She turned around and sighed, feeling like she had accomplished something for no reason.

Possia Goptre was roaming around the caves of the Dollow Kollan area when she felt a sudden burst of energy. It was far away, but it seemed powerful. She closes her eyes and focuses deeply. A vision forms as she realizes what it was in disbelief. She stares at the far, wide ocean. There is time, but not much. She summoned three large shadows and a feather pen, a piece of paper, and a durable bottle appeared. She quickly scribbles her distress message, rolls it up, and puts it in the bottle. She pushes the cork shut so that nothing can get through and nothing could take it off aside from someone who reads it. She enchants the bottle to find someone who would do what it asked and hurls it as far as her arms can throw.

Dearest Reader,

If you are reading this, please let the rest of my family know. They must be around. Even if you have to cross oceans, even if you have to go through the harshest conditions, even through space, please send it. They mustn’t stay in the dark about this.
I, Possia Goptre, would want to tell you that, me, most commonly known as the Witch of the Dark, am looking for someone down my line named Helena. I need her to come to where I am, but just tell her my location, and don’t give her this letter. She should be around.
Helena is a special case – she may be the next high witch, maybe even the next great sorcerer. However, if her magic gets loose, the whole world is in danger. And those with great potential are more likely for it to go out. I have seen it before. I think Helena’s magic is going to get loose, and we can’t risk having everything on the line. Don’t ask me how I know, just trust me.
I’ll be at Sonpan Cove in the Dollow Kollan. Please tell her to come to me there. If you need to, please escort her. But don’t tell her the truth.

Thanks,
Possia Goptre

Message in a Bottle

To whomever happens upon reading this,

The year at the time I'm writing this is 3018 which might be eons before you, or perhaps years into the future, depending on how long this lasts. Paper has been long gone, since the early 2800's and I must admit that I've longed to see it. Perhaps your generation will have brought it back, or perhaps it's still around. If you're unfamiliar with the substance of which I am writing this with, it is called chartae (derived from the Latin words ex chartae et metallo), meaning “of paper and metal.” It's made using a thinning-metal material used to conserve resources but also having the ability to work with both holographic substances and old-fashioned calamums and pens.
I'm sure that, whomever you are, cares not in the least about our culture's writing system but I do have a slight habit of going off on factual rants. I should tell you, the reader of this “letter” that I came across this idea, when I started researching the world far before I was born. I found out about people called “pirates” and “explorers” which seems quite absurd yet endearing at the idea of leaving your city without a set plan on where you're going or express permission to leave. My city, called pustula urbs is near the Fox-sprint Ocean where our city meets another.
As I'm sure you know, time travel was invented a few hundred years ago, therefore allowing me to cover this bottle in the solution to find another dimension, somewhere in the universe's past. I also found out, in my extensive research that some explorers would leave messages in bottles (canteens pre-filled to store liquid, but dreadful for the environment) if they were ever in danger or to leave a legacy in a vain hope for someone to find it and enjoy it. I'm not sure what era you're in, since I never specified which solution I wanted, so perhaps this “bottle” has been floating out in the ocean for eons before someone found it. The bottle I used was made out of an unshrinkable (so as not to deform the note) material with a combination of the thinning-metal, neither of which have a significant impact on the environment whatsoever.
I will be sending out a total of fourteen (trust me, the number has significance) notes into various eras, so the people of the past and future will have a knowledge on our current society. I also realize that this note is going to be quite long, so I'll try my hardest to keep it concise. In three bullet points our my current society and culture is/has:
  • a slightly tyrannical government, but just in a way where the government has all knowledge and permission is needed to do most activities. If you are from the past, I would recommend changing this, or at least, be aware that your freedom is valuable.
  • jobs that are assigned to the population, based mostly on heritage. It's almost old fashioned, I think but I was assigned to the research department of geographical evolution. I heard that in earlier eras, most places had the ability to choose their occupation! Is that true? I think that I would make a lovely architect, or a map-maker. Researching would never be my first choice, unless you're able to research what you want.
  • no secrets between each other, excluding the government to its people. I'm not supposed to elaborate any more than that, but it's not pleasant.

This note is a secret, stolen away and a vain attempt at warning the people from before. Take heed of the numbers and remember to warn the others.

Sincerely.
They left it at that, without a name. Names were dangerous and traceable, and they'd already given away too much information. It was better as it was, anonymous and hopefully helpful to someone. Maybe the rest of their culture would change the very next day, if the bottles went into the past like they were supposed to. They pushed the glinting, slightly metallic papers into several, different colored bottles, which had been crafted by many for days and days until they were ready to be sent off. And then, they had to seal each of the bottles with a metal-wax material combination. It was a lot of work, writing everything out fourteen times, but wasn't able to be traced, like holographic copiers were and even so, that was less durable. They had covered their hands with a thin material, again untraceable, and then, once by one, tossed each of the glittering bottles into the sea, where they quickly disappeared under the waves. To another time dimension, they all went until someone would finally receive one, and start the warning.

Dear Ebony, or Whomever May Find This Letter,
It has been a full year now since I found myself taken into the company of pirates. I am doing fine, so don’t you dare worry. The captain is far nicer than to be expected, and by whatever means necessary he always insures his crew has plenty of food and water, and that we are taken care of. Still, though, it’s been… something. Don’t get me wrong, it has been exciting for sure. My favorite part is easily getting to see so many exotic places I could barely have dreamt of otherwise. Still though, I have many regrets, the strongest of which is of course leaving my dear sweet Ebony behind. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss you to a point that’s almost unbearable.
Similarly, not a day goes by that I am not consumed by worry for you. I know I didn’t leave you in the best situation, but I hope you know I only did what I felt I had to in order to ensure you’ll be taken care of in the future. Yet I know that does not help in the present, and I hope desperately that you are okay.
Still, I will remain at sea for however long as it takes me to fulfill the promise I made you before I went to sea; I /will/ acquire enough money to make all of our dreams come true. You have my word.
Until then, I will remain out here, wishing desperately that I had a way to contact you. I can only hope that by some miracle you’ll happen upon the bottle in which I’m sending this letter. Or, if not, that whoever does find it will find a way to get it to you.
Yours Forever,
Beau

Dear Steampunk Sanctuary,
I'm just writing this letter to see if this place is real. My friends are talking about it, and how its some magical place with gears and steam and whatnot. I'm not sure if it really exists, but if it does, please write back to me with how to get there! I've always loved steampunk and none of my friends really relate. They talk about how the sanctuary must be lame and old. I don't know where to send this letter, if this place does exist, so I'm throwing it into the wind with hopes that it finds it's way.
Sincerely,
Finn

Dear Dystopian enemies,
I hope your dreadfully boring gray dimension is dying faster, ahead of schedule! It must be drab there, stuck in a dying dimension. I hope you know that we plan to win and put you not in second, but in last place. Our inn isn't dying. We have our own rooms and meals in the dining hall every day, and entertain ourselves by finding keys. Not for our escape or anything.. Anyways, our cabin is superior. It must be boring collecting stars or whatever. Just joking! I hope you guys are having a fun time in your star dimension, and good luck!
Sincerely,
Finn

3: 126 words
Dear Ghost,
I've read about how you were locked away by the council. I send my sympathy, and an offer. You see, I have also been trapped. I have walked into an inn and the door was locked behind me. They won't let me out, and I was thinking that we could help each other. The locks here cannot be opened from the inside, and I suppose your's cannot either. I know you have magic, and magic powerful enough to work beyond your cage, even if you cannot free yourself with it. You free me, I get out, and I free you. You can get revenge on the council, and have everything you wanted. If you accept my offer, meet me in my dreams.
Sincerely,
Finn

Dear Script,
This is an application letter. I would be thrilled to join your play, and I am prepared for what it takes! I love acting, and I would be a great addition to your cast. That is, once I escape this mysterious Inn I have been locked in. Don't worry, I wont escape too late for the play. I think. It is boring here, without any musicals or performances. I hope to see you soon, please write me back if you'll let me audition! I would be a great main character, or side character, or ensemble, or anything you need!
Sincerely, Finn

5: 122 words
Dear Foria,
I've missed you. I know you wanted to live in the forest, in some town, but its been tough working the Inn without you. Not just the work of maintaining the Inn, which is always heavy around winter, but it just doesn't feel the same. It doesn't feel like home. I miss you, sister. I've never heard someone talk about anything like you talk about that forest. How freeing it is to just be there, how happy it makes you. I know its like home to you, but you're home to me. I'm not asking you to come back, but could you visit? On the weekends, or holidays? Something. I just want to see you again. I'm homesick.
Sincerely,
Finn

6: 100 words
Dear Mars,
Really excited for you to go on that train you've been talking about! Really, I'd like to wish you safe travels. Right now I know you must be nervous for your first train. Right? Under the card I put some cash for you, incase you need it. Until I see you again, I hope you have lots of fun and lively memories from wherever you're going. Never would I have thought time would pass so quickly, it seems like just yesterday we were kids. Now, safe travels, I hope you understand what this letter means!
Stay safe, Finn

7: 101
Dear Sally,
I'm so happy for you! Its wonderful that you got accepted into that high-tech testing group you wrote to me about. Tell me how it is! It sounds exciting, and I'm glad my friend is doing such futuristic things. I'd love to hear about your experience in the simulation. That is if you're allowed to disclose that information, I suppose. Hopefully they don't make you stay silent about it, because it sounds like the story of the year to tell! Especially at Thanksgiving in a few weeks. I'm so excited to see you there! See you soon.
Sincerely, Finn

8: 117 words
Dear Adventure Kingdom,
I hope you're doing well! I have heard about conflict in your kingdom, with emerging forces. Those stuck in the Real-fi Inn have also been having trouble, so we offer friendship. We can send you supplies and what you need in that battle of yours, and you can help us escape this Inn. We've been finding keys around the Inn, but I don't know where they lead or how long it will take to get out of here. I still don't know who locked me in here. The Inn keepers have been more than nice, but I'm starting to be homesick. Write back to us soon!
Sincerely, the trapped stayers of the Real-fi Inn

9: 108 words
Dear Belle,
I haven't heard from you in a while. You said you were going to some movie theatre, but its been a while. Where are you? You stopped writing back to me, and I've been worried. Did something happen? I don't want or mean to overreact, but you've, like, disappeared! I don't know where you've gone or the details of where you've been. I don't even know what movie theatre you went to. Please write back soon. The worrying is driving me crazy! I hope you're safe and well, and if you are, sorry for worrying so much. See you soon, take care of yourself!
Sincerely, Finn

10: 111 words
Dear Thea,
My siren, friend, how have you been? I know it might be a big favor to ask, but I really need something. Your help. I've unfortunately been locked in an Inn I walked into. It seemed so inviting when I was in the cold outside, but now I'm not sure of it. Something is off. I've been locked in, and I don't know who locked me in. I've been trying to find out, along with the others locked in here. Our escape doesn't look like it is near, at least not if we're trying to escape by ourselves. I could use your help, my scary mermaid friend.
Sincerely, Finn

11: 112 words
Dear Hi-Fi train Robbers,
I would greatly appreciate it if you could return our belongings. You guys must have so many things already, from all the stealing you do all day. I mean that respectfully, of course. We need our gold plates and silverware returned to the Inn, because.. well, we need our utensils. You also stole the Inn decorations and gold, and I'd like that back too. If we have to be trapped in an Inn, I'd like it to not be an eyesore. Since we are allies, this would be so very cool of you to bring our things back! Like really cool.. Please bring our things back.
Sincerely, Finn

12: 103 words
Dear Naan-Fi Breadhouse
Hey! I heard from my friends about how good the bread from this breadhouse is. It sounds delicious! I'd love to try it, but unfortunately I can't go to the shop. It's a long story. Or maybe not that long. I've been locked in an Inn by someone anonymous. I'd love if you guys could deliver it to the Inn, and maybe sneak it through the window to my room. Thanks so much! If this is possible and you guys can deliver it, I'd like three baguettes and three chocolate dipped croissants. Thank you!
From Fin, from the Real Fi-Inn

13: 102 words Dear Fan-fi,
Hey allies! Since you guys are all about time traveling, do you think you could help us out? By us I mean myself and the others trapped in this Inn. Could you guys time travel us out of her somehow? Maybe warn us before stepping inside, or speed up time until we finally get out. I know it is a big favor, and I could make it up to you guys some how. Whatever you need, or, almost whatever, your Real-fi allies can help you to pay you back for this. Thank you guys. Please help us soon.
Sincerely, Finn

14: 105 words
Dear Poetry Isle of Fame,
Hey! I've been loving your TV-show. It is quite entertaining when you're locked in an Inn, am I right? Well, I am sure it would be entertaining in any circumstance. I love the competitive energy between the three teams, and I can't wait to watch more as more new episodes come out. You guys should release episodes faster! This show is thrilling and always keeps me on my toes, excited for what will happen next. By the way, I gave you guys an online review of five stars! Keep on filming this show, because it is super exciting!
Sincerely, Finn
