I heard somewhere that maybe these accounts were never 2 characters long, however something glitched during the transition from 1.X to 2.0 and the accounts were turned into 2 letters. However I think that the password-guessed @jj account said that so I'm not really sure.

After I read this topic, I have the feeling the 2 Digit Usernames and gdpr0000001 things are kind of connected - especially the date bugs.
gdpr000001 was a testing account for a law in the EU called General Data Protection Regulation (or something like that) that requires all websites to erase all data for a user on request. Most of the time the account also gets deleted, but sometimes it just resets all followers, following, loves, favourites, etc.

Why does gdpr0000001 appear to have joined in 1999?

Its a test account made by the scratch team, so whoever made it probably set the creation date to 0 days since 2000
or gdpr'd accounts get their creation date removed

why would anyone have their name as “maximouse”? exactly, there's probably some ambiguous reason behind it, just like there's probably some ambiguous reason behind naming their account “l”, “a” or “an”.

I literally have 2 accounts that are 3 characters. Accounts exist that are 2 (and 1) digit long.

@a actually was (probably) faked. They could have exploited that hack where you could follow Kaj.
